Chris Stuckmann reviews Immaculate, starring Sydney Sweeney, Álvaro Morte, Simona Tabasco, Benedetta Porcaroli, Giorgio Colangeli. Directed by Michael Mohan.
Its so weird that the red faced nuns were never really explored in this movie, theyre constantly in the background and highlight their prescence to the viewer, but in the end they just remained a mystery to the point you wonder why they are even in the movie?

What I love about Sydney Sweeney's performance here is there's a scene early in the film where one of the nuns throws constant verbal jabs at her and a look comes over Sydney's face that hints at an inner anger that rears it's head in the final act. It makes you realize that while she's wholesome, it's a genuine, decisive effort for her to be that way! Fascinating character.
Sydney Sweeney completely blew me away with her performance in this movie she definitely has a bright future in acting to be a main character and to be able to carry a movie her performance especially in the very last scene of the movie was phenomenal
Interesting thing about the upside-down cross. In Catholicism, specifically, it is actually a symbol of solidarity with the church because Saint Peter was crucified on an upside-down cross. It's only a sacreligious symbol for Protestants because they don't honor saints. I don't blame you for not knowing. I wouldn't be surprised if most self-proclaimed Catholics don't even know that.
@GNN_CamInFocus I have heard that also! The church was prone to adapting symbols and traditions from other cultures as a means of easing people into their religion.
I’ve only heard Sydney Sweeney talk about this in an interview but she revived the script and bankrolled the film after it was on the shelf for years. That’s great, something good to come out of her Madam Web money and I get the feeling she is far from done.
Love that for her! A lot of her horror/thriller performances have largely flown under the radar but it's in more intense movies like these where she really gets to shine, imo.
You should review Late Night with the Devil since you’re such an advocate for indie developers especially indie horror. It’s an amazing movie and you should use your platform to promote good horror.
Is that the one that used generative ai to make a poster or something within the film? I keep hearing the movie is good, but I find it disrespectful to use ai when they could have hired a human artist instead; like film is such a passionate and collaborative art form, so why replace a human for something when a freelancer would love a credit on a cool horror movie? I know I am in the minority for being so strictly anti generative ai for most things because I find it unethical to use human made art as data set without the consent of the original artists.
I saw it today . No spoilers The ending sequences the single taken shot they did of her BIG performance and then the way it ended. I gasped so loud - I think everyone did. That entire sequence it was so quiet in the theater. And I appreciated for the movie that you just had to listen to the sounds with no reveal
Dude, the end of the movie is insanely funny in how silly it is. I had a smile on my face from the last encounter all the way through to the end. The acting was decent/good, the writing had some moments, but it definitely needed some fixing up. It is just so incredibly silly in parts where we need to take it seriously, and various events and setups are just dropped completely. Some of the silly stuff might have worked in a movie with more supernatural overtones, but not in here where stuff is somewhat grounded. The bit where they split the story up with time skips of a few months also hurts the story. I get we need the time progression, but the start of every section is "lets talk about this thing we should have definitely discussed in depth in the previous months we skipped." Conclusion: pretty neutral. Looks decent, I had fun in the cinema, no real complaints about the acting, but the writing and pacing should have been looked at once more. I didn't mind having seen it, I doubt I will go watch it again.
It’s nice to see my guy still making reviews, you got me into reviews myself. My wife and I saw this because of your recommendation. While I enjoyed myself I felt it was very lacking in forward momentum and a bit over sexual. I’d give it a calm 6/10. Still waiting on Shelby Oaks to reach my doorstep. I’ll see you then. Not to mention how familiar it felt. If a cure for wellness and rosemarys baby did the fusion dance
OMG, I have a major phobia when it comes to anything involving finger nails. Thank you so much for the warning! Seriously. I know not everyone can always be cognizant of everyone's phobias (that would literally be impossible), so I usually go into movies or videos just hoping that nothing is shown, or I'll at least have time to look away/turn it off. (It was literally just yesterday when I watched a video with a random shot of nails on a chalkboard and I was not prepared!) I really appreciate the heads up!
By the time it finally got going, I had already been bored WAY too long for it to be able to win me back in any way , though yes I did indeed admire Sydney's performance greatly in the finale there!! I couldn't buy into "the innocent trapped by evil" either, created so perfectly by Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby!
0:01 I watched this yesterday and I wondered for most of the movie was I watching a different version, because I wasn't seeing what the hype was about. The last scene wasn't anything jaw dropping for me either, no surprises there.
Just saw this and yes, the long suspense sequences are so good. And the Big Acting moment really impressed me. I thought the reveal worked pretty good with the seeds they planted at the start, although I do wish they explained how exactly the Thing happened in the first place. And tbh, I didn't think they would go through with The Act at the end. I kept expecting a more cliche heel turn or twist, but they stuck to their guns 🪨, so mad respect for that! I really liked it!
Watched this last night, you weren’t kidding man, she gave this film everything! Crazy how she can mold into this role then do a pretty decent rom-com too. Definitely one to watch!
She didn't have to use her sex appeal to keep everyone's eyes glued to the screen at all in this movie, she kept the audience on the edge of their seats and she was so emotional/violent in this movie I didn't expect her acting to be this good
The reveal did not work for me. Because after that, nothing else was explored. I also had some issues with the moving doing those "loud noise" bits that make you flinch like almost every 7 to 10 minutes on the first half of the movie. And I don't really don't enjoy that. I do think the actress did a really good job. That one shot scene Chris mentioned was amazing, and it's definitely the one thing everyone is gonna be talking about. (coughthumbcoughnailcough)
People talking about the red masked nuns. My interpretation was that they were warnings given to her potentially by god as to what her fate staying there would be. The cross brands on the nuns feet and the main characters feet also serve to convey that a mass amount of nuns if not all of them have been experimented on throughout the films history. And by the end of the film we see the main chatacter with a face covered in blood. Mirroring what she saw throughout the film and becoming a self fufilling prophecy.
Just saw this movie. I left thinking that the acting was good, and the shots were beautiful, but that I would almost qualify it more as a thriller than a horror movie. It's very slow-paced. There's more gore than I expected, especially at the end, and the ending, well, it kind of worked for me but I guess it won't please everyone. If you're a horror fan though, you won't be scared by this movie. I still think it's worth seeing for the cinematography and the acting. I'd say 5/10.
I’m seeing it on Tuesday because I love Neon, I’m a little scared about the fingernail scene now 😮 I watched Road House (2024) and it wasn’t too bad but it’s insane.
shudder's killing it lately! not getting as much attention but theres this smaller movie called "youll never find me" that came out today that's really good too!
@@cokemaster3710Using AI as a shortcut of spending less money rather than hiring actual artists maybe isn't a good thing so yeah, don't blame boycotters.
Just finished this and that last scene 😮 Sydney just sold it so good, what a stunner. Reminded me a lot of Rosemarys baby ending BUT it’s pro choice this time 😂
This movie went B-movie halfway through and that’s when the fun began! Just like Malignant! It never worked as a creepy/scary horror, I don’t think it’s well directed to be that. But boy oh boy, it went places that felt like a resurgence of the New French Extremity
Just got back from the theater. I can't say I liked this one. It seemed very much more style than substance -a lot of striking visual images, jump scares, and general loudness. But not much in the way of storytelling. I left more confused than entertained. I will say the "sets" are beautiful-I don't know if this was actually filmed at an authentic rural Italian church but it looks great.
For all the tropes in catholic based horror I appreciated that what was going on was actually nothing demonic at all but just extreme fanaticism within the church itself which felt just as evil. Very clever premise and great commentary. I do wish there was more time to explore the themes a bit
The screaming scene is impressive acting yes… however it felt like a standing ovation that would not end. Like I’m sorry 20 seconds vs 1.5 minutes of just screaming would have got the point across. BUT, the noise it made when it came out had my entire theatre screaming laughing
I mean she had to deliver the baby on her own, so that part was painful especially for a woman. And she had to bite off her umbilica cord to release the baby that looks like it was dying anyway. Yea this movie was good, and F up! Especially what happen to her friend's tongue yikes!!!!
I feel like Euphoria did so much damage to her acting career by typecasting her as the blonde bonbshell trope, so it's really great seeing her get roles like this bc she gives such a great performance in this movie!
Hi Chris, how are you doing? Maybe you could review Beetlejuice (1988) for your Feature presentation soon? Beceause the second movie will be released this september. Maybe you like that idea. Wish you a nice day. Greetings from The Netherlands
"Strange, that movies about Satan always require Catholics. You never see your Presbyterians or Episcopalians hurling down demons" Roger Ebert, in his review of Constantine.
This movie was excellent!!! It was focused, well paced, and the suspense and horror was soooooo gooooood!!!! I’m not a Sydney Sweeney fan but she did an amazing job 👏👏👏👏👏
Just saw it. You know, I found myself thinking of old school Romero style gore. Very italian, that way. It was good. I would've preferred a more...clearer ending, but I enjoyed it.
"if fingernails are a problem for you..." Well, that might depend on what you mean (havent seen the movie yet). We talking about getting raked by them, the typical horror movie "gory nails dripping with viscera", or someone's nails getting ripped out? Because, really, only that last one would make me feel like crawling out of my skin. 😱
Oh, I paid attention to the review, I promise. But I was also... *gaze wanders to display on your right* "Oh, wow, is that The Heroic Legend Of Arislan and Ranma 1/2 among his anime?!"
My family under this house is not very traditional it's just me a widower father and my 15 Yo son... And I do believe Sydney Sweeney is the first woman that we have a shared interest in. LoL Oh the father son male bonding experience...of ogling a beautiful woman. Oh the fantastic human nature toxicity. Love it.
Fairly enjoyed it, a tad forced at times, but worth a look. That closing scene was pretty visceral, and in hindsight kinda gave me “Ready or not” vibes And then we have “The First Omen” coming out in a few weeks, which seems like a very similar film in theory … hopefully that one is at least watchable, I love the original three movies in the Omen series (though it’s a coin toss between the 2006 cash-grab remake or the tangential 4th movie as to which is the more redundant) … I’ll definitely still go watch it, but I’m leaving my expectations/hopes at the door like I should have for the recent Exorcist sequel
I really liked it. It was beautiful costuming and sets, the music. The end certainly made my audience totally silent. A lot of people will hate on anything these days. I don’t even think it’s an anti religion movie. It’s just a movie. I’d buy it on dvd. Enjoyed Sydney going from innocent to savage.
Would love to see a review for Late Night with the Devil!!! It seems that everyone is bashing it for its use of AI and ignoring the filmmaking at work... I really thought it was phenomenal
Its so weird that the red faced nuns were never really explored in this movie, theyre constantly in the background and highlight their prescence to the viewer, but in the end they just remained a mystery to the point you wonder why they are even in the movie?
I agree. And there's a latent supernatural element that kinda disappears too! Editing I guess?
This is the one critique I had with the movie! I would've loved if they would've explained what that was all about.
Well what happen to all the nuns at the end of the movie
Yes! That and the girl in the beginning. In the end it just felt like they used that whole scene to show us that hey there's bad nuns here...

(It was literally just yesterday when I watched a video with a random shot of nails on a chalkboard and I was not prepared!)
I really appreciate the heads up!
Good he said that for u bc that scene is kinda long for what it is if u can’t stand that stuff😂
I can't tell who was more bored: Sydney Sweeney delivering her lines for the first half of the movie or me trying to watch her do it.
I KNOW RIGHT. And I usually LOVE slow-burn horror but this is.......... nothing's burning 😂😂😂 more like no-burn horror.
Do you plan to see Hundreds of Beavers? It's playing at The Nightlight a couple times in the next few days. That film deserves more attention!
I always trust your reviews. Thank you.
Watched this last night, you weren’t kidding man, she gave this film everything! Crazy how she can mold into this role then do a pretty decent rom-com too. Definitely one to watch!
I can’t do fingernails! Thanks for the head’s up Chris. 😅
After literally just seeing Late Night with the Devil, I wished I had followed my gut instinct and seen this instead.
I trust your reviews. Thank you!
😂😂 he's a hack
Chris behaving like a real critic with words and opinions,I love it, it's adorable.
Going to see this and Late Night with the Devil!
great work, detective stuckmann
I also have a 2 year old, so my movie time is limited, but i saw this movie ONLY saw this because you reviewed it. Love you man
She didn't have to use her sex appeal to keep everyone's eyes glued to the screen at all in this movie, she kept the audience on the edge of their seats and she was so emotional/violent in this movie I didn't expect her acting to be this good
She’s nude in this aswell so…
The reveal did not work for me.
The Real Bene Gesserits of the Sicilian Countryside was indeed a good movie and a pleasant surprise. What a final scene!
LMAOOOO
“I just shit my pants” kinda thumbnail
It’s also a “kids who randomly stare at you in public places for no reason” kinda vibe
Love the hoodie!
Hey Chris, any thoughts on Late night with the Devil?
The final scene of this movie was one of the wildest endings to a film I've ever seen
Not that wild it was taken from a South Park episode called Merry Critter Christmas. Check it out
Are you using a new camera Chris? looks nice.
Anxiously waiting for you to see Late Night w/ the Devil 👀
If you haven’t definitely go see “late night with the Devil”!!
shudder's killing it lately! not getting as much attention but theres this smaller movie called "youll never find me" that came out today that's really good too!
Twitter told me to boycott it because of AI.
AI bad grrrr
@@cokemaster3710Using AI as a shortcut of spending less money rather than hiring actual artists maybe isn't a good thing so yeah, don't blame boycotters.
Great premise, great setup, great first 2/3 of a movie. That ending tho….and the lack of anything really scary… seemed like it dropped the ball.
I'm seeing it on Sunday! Very excited :)
If it's not on your radar already Australian lofi chamber piece horror "You'll Never Find Me" is definitely one to look out for...
Thank you for the review! I hadn't heard of this or The Voyeurs, but I'm very interested.
Voyeurs was great but that final act ruined the movie
The Iron Claw. Please review it.
Just watched this it was soooo good to me. Had me at the edge of my seat.
dude, roadhouse was so much fun! you'll love it!
Just finished this and that last scene 😮 Sydney just sold it so good, what a stunner. Reminded me a lot of Rosemarys baby ending BUT it’s pro choice this time 😂
Absolutely Can’t Wait To See This Bloody Movie.
Movie sucks, it's everything you have already seen. It's not fvking scary! Dint waste your money!
Late Night With The Devil is soo good! review that one when you get a chance
Sydney Sweeney is the next Margot Robbie of Hollywood
I agree and think it's for better and for worse. She has the talent, but her looks will remain a weird focus and source of discourse.
Too soon to say that
SYDNEY was breathtaking in this picture. Also the cinematography was top notch.
Sydney did an amazing job. Saved the movie for me.
Oh, and Roadhouse was so good!
2 good horror movies back to back cant go wrong with either one immaculate or late night with the devil i highly recommend both
This movie went B-movie halfway through and that’s when the fun began! Just like Malignant! It never worked as a creepy/scary horror, I don’t think it’s well directed to be that. But boy oh boy, it went places that felt like a resurgence of the New French Extremity
This was a very good review
Glad Sydney Sweeney is rocking it. And not just as a bratty teenager.
I love Sydney Sweeney!
Who doesn't?
Just saw it and we really liked it ! She’s just fab Sydney Sweeney ❤
She even fogs up the lense. Movie sucked ballz
I mean she had to deliver the baby on her own, so that part was painful especially for a woman. And she had to bite off her umbilica cord to release the baby that looks like it was dying anyway. Yea this movie was good, and F up! Especially what happen to her friend's tongue yikes!!!!
Loving the Dragon Ball apparels ❤
The shirt Chris is amazing ss3
I feel like Euphoria did so much damage to her acting career by typecasting her as the blonde bonbshell trope, so it's really great seeing her get roles like this bc she gives such a great performance in this movie!
Check out late night with the devil. Interested in hearing your thoughts on it. I think you’d like it.
You should make a video on Late Night with the Devil. Watched it last night and wow all I can say is what a ride! It’s a great watch in theater
I'm so interested in this movie. It's good to hear the acting is good.
Oscar worthy I thought! That end!👍🏼
I really enjoyed the movie. That final shot is something to behold for sure 😅
Can’t be a bad movie, Chris is reviewing it
Yes it can.
Sweet hoodie bro
That last scene....geez. 😱
I saw it last night. Damn, that ending shook me.
This movie was excellent!!! It was focused, well paced, and the suspense and horror was soooooo gooooood!!!! I’m not a Sydney Sweeney fan but she did an amazing job 👏👏👏👏👏
Oh look a proper review
Keep these videos rolling man. You and JJ are the best movie guys in the biz, screw the Scottish tryhard!
Just saw it.
You know, I found myself thinking of old school Romero style gore.
Very italian, that way.
It was good.
I would've preferred a more...clearer ending, but I enjoyed it.
Wow two reviews in one day
I really don’t like being scared but this and Late Night With The Devil have me regrettably interested
Ah yes, the sexy nun horror movie
Boy I saw the movie that shower scene was awesome.
Surprised you gave your opinion on this one before Late night with the devil 😁
Thanks for the heads up about fingernails!
Just watched the remake "Roadhouse" and it was actually pretty good I enjoyed it!
My family under this house is not very traditional it's just me a widower father and my 15 Yo son...
And I do believe Sydney Sweeney is the first woman that we have a shared interest in. LoL
Oh the father son male bonding experience...of ogling a beautiful woman. Oh the fantastic human nature toxicity. Love it.
Fairly enjoyed it, a tad forced at times, but worth a look.
That closing scene was pretty visceral, and in hindsight kinda gave me “Ready or not” vibes
And then we have “The First Omen” coming out in a few weeks, which seems like a very similar film in theory … hopefully that one is at least watchable, I love the original three movies in the Omen series (though it’s a coin toss between the 2006 cash-grab remake or the tangential 4th movie as to which is the more redundant) … I’ll definitely still go watch it, but I’m leaving my expectations/hopes at the door like I should have for the recent Exorcist sequel
Managed to double bill this tonight with Late Night With The Devil. Horror double bill baby! Hell yes!
Late night with the devil is amazing
Great sweater Chris !
Where's SSJ3 Goku when a nun in an evil church needs him the most ?
Thanks for this immaculate review. Srry had to do it.
Man of culture with the goku hoodie 🙏
