Definitely seem to be similarities with the Chopin concertos---> and if i may give my own humble opinion, this Tellefsen seems better. (^^) At the very least, Tellefsen gives the orchestra more to do than the young Pole does, and the accompaniment is more substantial than the "almost completely useless" Chopin parts derided by Berlioz.~ Anyway, i think it is fair to call this Trllefsen work quite a discovery... Irrelevant personal aside--> Quite an intriguing evening of listening for me, as before this i had stumbled across the Henselt piano concerto. There is still plenty of great music to discover, to be sure.

It announces Brahms already in 1824! Very impressive.
Herz was not only a talented musician, he was also an engineer who invented many improvements of piano mechanisms that are still used today.

Some nice moments in 1, 6, and 7, but don't these feel a bit lacking and/or basic compared to Chopin's op 10/25 and Liszt's TE? From Thalberg's reputation at the time, I expected more tbh.
Thalberg's reputation, as far as I know, came mostly from his opera transcriptions.
This actually a pretty good work by Herz. Suprised he is more "famous" for his not-so-sophisticated ones

@@piyamaslimaichay9061 Op.43 with violin (arr. Beriot) is significantly better imo. The textures created are actually extremely beautiful. Regarding Norma, I do agree the patterns created do not match the spirit of the themes at all. I was a little suprised to hear it was a popular one of the young Thalberg at the time.

Beethoven already wrote sonata Op.101 in 1816 and Op.106 Hammerklavier in 1818-1819 LMAO
So much great and wonderful music on CZcams I've haphazardly discovered. It's amazing this music is never heard. I'm sure the problem is there is just too much of it, having accumulated over the centuries. I could have been content just re-listening to Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, etc. CZcams has unleashed a whole new category I never-before knew.

Excellent sonata. A true discovery. It's full of invention, interesting armonic passages and a genuine "english charme". I think there is no such underrated pianisti-composer as Cramer. A huge thank you for sharing this!

If I remember right, she may have been a pupil of Gottschalk.
Briefly - he heard her, was impresed, and helped to promote her, but he was too busy to give her more than a few lessons. She may have already been equal to him in technique
