I stumbled upon your video from your trip in 2023 about 9 months ago. That's when I first learned about the Texas 200 and I'm hooked. Great job and I hope to see you out there 2025

As noted before, I owned a 1969 Oday Mariner. When I was a kid, a buddy and I spent the night on my Oday in the harbor where I docked her. Early the next morning we headed out for a sail, however, the weather wasn't the best to take this boat out in. Anyway, away we went, fighting what seemed big to us waves on the nose. Wind was blowing 15-20. With sails up we attempted to tack back and forth across the ship channel. During one of those tacks the tiller snapped at the head of the rudder. We quickly started the British seagull to take us back to the safety of the harbor a mile or so away. Unfortunately we sheared the pin in the propeller (anyone who has owned a Seagull would appreciate our situation). We threw out the anchor and despite severe rocking was able to pull the engine and lay it in the cockpit. In no time we replaced the pin, installed the motor on the mount, and had it running. As we entered the mouth of the harbor we ran out of gas! We deployed the anchor again and contemplated our dire situation. Luckily, a crew boat came by and gave us a tow back to the boatslip. Needless to say we stayed tied to the dock that day.

As I mentioned in one of your previous videos, I owned an Oday Mariner in the early 70's and sailed OSPREY along the Mississippi gulf coast. My Mariner was never rigged out like yours. You've done a fantastic job rigging yours to fit your great sailing needs. I love the hidden lighting under the cockpit coaming and how you've arranged the cabin. You're definitely doing it right. I also like the two hanging line bags; that's a great idea. If you're ever interested in trailering it to the Mississippi Gulf Coast please know there are several islands just offshore that you could visit/camp. Google "Walter Inglis Anderson" and read about this Mississippi born man who spent years on several of the islands in the Sound, living under his small wooden boat while painting and drawing wildlife. I bet you would enjoy reading his logs. He died in 1965 but his drawings and paintings continue to astonish the art world; they're now worth millions. There is a museum in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, dedicated to Walter Anderson that you might find very interesting. Anyway, thanks for an enjoyable video. Tire spoons are cheap and safe. I used screwdrivers for years, but I finally got some tire spoons, they cost about what two inner tubes cost. :) I learned.
