McCartney or Harrison on Bass? Oh Darling - Isolated Bass + TAB
For Bass Transcriptions with TABs
playbasslines.sellfy.store/p/oh-darling-the-beatles-bass-paul-mccartney-bass-transcription-bass-tab/
"Oh! Darling" appears on the Beatles 1969 album Abbey Road. It was composed by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon-McCartney. It is still unclear as to who played the bass on that song.
According to Ian MacDonald, the author of the book "Revolution in the Head" which provides a song-by-song analysis based on the original Beatles master tapes, the bass was played by Paul.
However, in the 2019 box set Abbey Road: Super Deluxe Version, the accompanying booklet lists an alternative line-up with George Harrison on bass.
Several websites do also credit George for playing the bass on the song.
...The eight-track tape had George Harrison’s bass guitar on track one
www.beatlesbible.com/songs/oh-darling/
...George on a Fender Bass VI
www.beatlesebooks.com/oh-darling
When listening to the isolated bass track, the sound, the feel, and the choice of notes do sound like a Paul McCartney performance, but all evidence tends to point in the direction of George having played that bassline.
Never the less it is a well-crafted and fun bass line to play.

Had McCartney played this part - no one would say 'it sounds like a guitar player played this. Macca could have easily written this part. He would've put more slides in it..
professional of professional!
The bass line is the heart and soul of this song. It tells a beautiful story on its own, and does it perfectly.
Just realized I've had this on loop for the past hour...
Ridiculous! A treasure.
Beautiful.
Fake! This is not the isolated track of the original song.
Yep
hi where can i get the bass tabs for this song PLEASE?
Oh yeah. So goood.
its sloppy, off beat and not interesting . has to be Harrison
Tight asf
Who played this on the studio album? Tom Scholz or Fran Sheehan?
Just awesome!
Im sad I can only like this once
Do you write the notes below one by one? Or do you use "ai"?
@serhatyilmazonline yes, manually, one by one. I haven't found any AI that can do this well yet.
@@ericb8464 oh my god. its really hard. bravo
@@serhatyilmazonline Thank you!
I made such a great decision 40 years ago to become a Led Zeppelin fan. It was a natural decision. Natural as the sound of this base playing like a river flowing through time.
Bass tone and sound reminds me of Barney miller show
My first favorite bass player . And still the greatest. I mean that nasty , sexy, groovy, funky, bluesy, riffage that epitomizes Led Zeppelin’s backbone and heartbeat is JPJ. Every melodic note is perfectly placed, seamless, absolutely essential, never superfluous. Without JPJ’s riveting soulful eloquence , Zepp just isn’t. Zepp.
*Nowhere near the league of Sid*
Hi!can I move your video to bilibili?I'll indicate the source and the author❤
@zyunito Sure, please make sure you include the details and links in the description below the video. Cheers!
@@PlayBassLines Thank u!Your videos help a lot when I practise😁
Better than McCartney, not quite as good as Sting.
This man could play every instrument
Bass is relatively easy to pick and play, but to play it well, it is one of the more difficult instruments. You're driving the ship!
My favourite bass player.
Davie504 NOT approved F U Davie😊
Bass is the glue… jP incredible.. awesome
Zep II is my all-time favorite. It’s the most perfect rock album that has ever been recorded.
This is great. It is very difficult to fully track the bass through the sounds of the other instruments. When I was a kid listening to this song, portions of the bass line always stood out, and what I retained in my memory.
The beat of the band 🎉
Jpj almost went jazz
Very cool thanks for this!❤
Glad you liked it!
The tone of this man...
Very nice so what your saying is the line works over long or quick change 12 bar. Cheers
Gig it
The bass seems so subtle in this song but it is the powerful vehicle that carries the ears down this river of notes.
The glue of led zep
Give us basslines in pdf
funky asf brother
Tone like Geddy and line like Jamerson
John Paul Jones the G.O.A.T.💪
Gen Xer talking here. I thought Michael A sucked when I was a kid, BUT listen to the guitar solo in Hot For Teacher, and the bass is doing a lot of cool licks underneath the guitar. Michael Anthony is a hell of a player. He wouldn't have been in Van Halen if he was weak
Bass is not an instrument likely to lend itself to shifts in dynamics, but here JPJ shows how it's done.
nice 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you 👍
anytime.. 👌🏼
If you play.....you know how perfect this is.
Growing up, starting out on bass, he was a big inspiration for his melodic lines and punchy tone. I wanted a clean punchy tone like him…then I listen to this and you can tell it’s a pushed SVT. Insane how much grit there is in a song most perceived to have relatively clean bass tone compared to contemporaries such as Jeff Ament, Justin chancellor, even krist novoselic. While I liked (and for Tool, absolutely loved) those tones, I always wanted that ‘clean’ punchy sound… Man how wrong I was. But it’s ok. I have an Ampeg V4B now :)
Amazing what the isolated piece would sound like. Now have separate tracks for Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and Robert Plant, then bring them together.
It’s George on the Bass VI. The opening note sounds like it’s being fretted, and that wouldn’t be possible on a normal four-string bass.
