Here's a fun Blues-Rock bass solo idea over a
12 bar Blues in C, Texas-style.
As a matter of fact, the intro riff is loosely inspired by a riff from
ZZ Top's guitarist Billy Gibbons.
The 12 bar form and solo is played/looped twice for practicing purposes and
is written in C for the ease of reading the notes with fewer accidentals.
This type of solo works well in a Blues-Rock combo or even in a larger band setting.
Note the heavily compressed and mid-heavy sound used during the solo in order to cut through the mix.
This solo uses a mix of scales, most notably the major pentatonic scale,
with some blue notes, mostly minor thirds.
The Blues scale (Tonic - minor 3rd - 4th - b5th - 5th - minor7th) and
chord tones are (Tonic - major 3rd - 5th - b7th)
You can also slow down the video with YT video player settings to learn/read the notes from the TAB and play along with the video.
Here are the notes of the scales used for this solo
Over C7 - Major Pentatonic scale (C-D-E-G-A) also C7 Chord Tones (C-E-G-Bb)
Over F7 - Major Pentatonic scale (F-G-A-C-D)
Over G7 - Major Pentatonic scale (G-A-B-D-E)

You should do a straight blues solo without the shuffle!
Hey Lewis, good idea...this other video has one for a straight blues, but a slower one...Let me know if that's what you're looking for czcams.com/video/xHDl0yOuTLo/video.html
Play Bass Lines Hey, thanks for the reply! The video you linked to me is in 12/8 and still has that shuffle feel. I’m thinking more along the lines of a blues solo in 4/4 without the shuffle feel. More like Crossroads for example or Johnny B Goode, that kind of vibe.
@@lewisbrown7405 Got it! I'll definitely add them to my to-do-video list. In the meantime, you might like this one. czcams.com/video/oupfsvqp6MU/video.html you can also find the TABS and video here www.playbasslines.com/2011/09/bob-segers-old-time-rock-and-roll-sax.html
Hey Lewis, I finally got around to recording a Johnny B Goode-type solo, check it out here czcams.com/video/d3uw5Jpn2i8/video.html Hope you enjoy!
Awesome work!!!
