Check out Tom Scholz Bass line for his classic song
"Peace of Mind" from Boston 1976 debut album.
Played on a modified Gibson EBO with a Fender Jazz pickup and played it with a pick. This bass line is both a lesson in rhythmic and melodic bass playing.

Tom Scholz knows how to play advance bassline.
Boy, Tom really knows his way around a guitar neck.
@General Student both
@@kennet7837 So the joke there was that
Thanks for this, Tom has been an inspiration since I was playing a tennis racket in 78.gives me something to strive for. This song moves quick too, wow!
His bass playing is heavily influenced by Paul McCartney. It's got that bouncy, jaunty, happy meandering arpeggio style most associated with Paul McCartney.
What a friggin' monster bass line this is.....
Groovy
Do you play the line first, or write the sheet music and then play?
Actually this is Tom Scholz original isolated bass line. Typically, I would transcribe and make sure I have all the details figured out before I record or perform a bass line. Hope this helps!
Who played this on the studio album? Tom Scholz or Fran Sheehan?
I can't tell if he's using flatwound strings or just muting with his palm.
Or just compression applied in the mastering process
Sounds like a pick too me
Pick with hard compression.
Sounds like pick with roundwounds and tone rolled down some. I don’t know anything about studio effects added
@@dapper763 I think there's basically compression on everything on the Boston record (all the Boston records actually) Scholz secret is really compression, eq, and burying the VU meter in the red to cut a hot track with a good signal-to-noise ratio
How do you get this tone
Sheehan plays this better...... Tom is no slouch.... He plays it like a guitar guy
