Britain's biggest bike park set to double in size! The MBR Show
Britain's biggest and most popular bike park is set to double in size with over 30km of new trails, two skills zones, and a second uplift drop-off point, according to plans submitted to the council.
World Cup DH racing is back, and there has already been controversy at the first round in Fort William thanks to Fox Racing's new Speed Suit RS. But why has it taken this long for racing kit to evolve to this point, and why were skinsuits so inflammatory in the first place?
We've also been to Scotland to ride the new YT Tues DH bike, discuss the importance of Shimano's first E-EDR race win, and we go into all the details about the latest Orbea Rise e-bike.

Are all e-bikes going to look like a Specialized? Loads already do!

Have you noticed how so many new 'lightweight' e-bikes look really similar? From the Whyte E-Lyte to the Specialized Turbo Levo SL, Cube Stereo AMS Hybrid One44, Cannondale Moterra SL, Canyon Neuron:ONfly, and Orbea Rise, seemingly every diet e-bike is sharing a very similar silhouette with the shock positioned under the top tube. And the reason for this is simple; to get both the battery, and ...

Secret MTB'ing Rules You SHOULD Know!
Mud Guards is a stretch!!!
That's pretty heavy, it weighs about the same as my brothers entry level full alloy trek slash 7
Id love nothing more than to treat myself to an amazing new bike but here in the uk its full of thieving scumbags I work hard like lots of people but you cant have anything in this country that's nice because it gets stolen. Police do nothing a girl on Saturday bought herself an electric mountain bike she was attacked and beaten up by 4 african lads who stole it less then 15 mins after buying cops watched but drove off!! Beautiful bike.
Skins suits are only for top tier racers. anyone who wore one at the Bikepark on the weekend would make themselves the object of mockery.
And trails that end near the uplift !!
Why was the Xtrada 5 used in this test, when both the Xtrada 6 and 7 are under $1000 (USD) and have 1x drivetrains?
Now all bike park Wales needs is some sunshine.... ;-)
Very good video 📹 👍 👌 👏!!
wait I live in Crans-Montana xd
All that money and wireless! And it almosts shifts as good as XT😂
Hands down the worst axle ever designed by man.
Man-made? This thing is from another planet! Haha
@@MBRmagazine it is when you’ve had to rebuild a million times because either the spring or the o ring fails Inside. Also prone to seizing in the hub more than any other axle type. Horrid things.
Sounds like you’ve got a lot of experience with the Q-Loc. What do you recommend, other than keeping the axle greased, to keep it running smoothly?
I agree, rubbish thing seizes in the fork. I have to hammer it out with a mallet now. The whole thing is just a metal tube around a quick release skewer, could have just used that instead 🤷♂️. I found that out after an o-ring snapped, and loads of tiny pieces went everywhere, I managed to fix it with a spare o-ring, but lost the retaining clip. Its too complicated and solves nothing.
To be fair, that’s not unique to the Q-Loc. I had to hammered the 15mm quick release out of a friend’s Fox 36 recently, as it had seized to the hub bearings. That’s what happens when you don’t remove the front wheel for over a year!
The Qloc is way better than having to make sure you have the right tool on the trail for repairs. Something I really like about my Suntour suspension fork.
Yeah, it’s so easy to use, once you know how. We struggle with it for years, then Suntour started to put instructions on the QR lever… never looked back!
Excellent thanks for the updates 👍
I’ve just got the new rocker paddle shifter for the pod controller
Are all ebikes more expensive than motorbikes 🙄
I don’t ride motorbikes but I like TQ because of how hidden it is and makes it look like a regular bike.
Just don’t be short 😂
I have been riding the Stumpy EVO for 6 months now. I ride it as a mullet in the long headset angle and high BB / chain stay. This bike pedals really well up hill yet blasts down trails. The suspension makes the bike pump well and it just sits on obstacles. The feel is stable underfoot and it just tracks so well. Berms are railed as if the bike is running on tracks. Rocks get deleted. Jumping is so much fun and the only limit is the skill level of the person riding it. On a slight negative side, the chain ring in mine is 30t stock which makes it easy to pedal, but it spins out too soon, especially on bike park days. I also agree about the Code RS brakes. I have a set of Shimano SLX on my other bike and I may swap them out. Overall I rate my Stumpy a solid 9/10 for value for money and the sheer fun factor that bike brings to the ride.
Nice!
I'm sorry, where is Orbea?
We only managed to get one after this test was finished. The review is here: czcams.com/video/-c5ISfMZrjQ/video.html
The Ravemen PR2400 is the perfect MTB light IMO
Awesome video, just watched it again. Very competent people who also are somewhat decent riders and explained everything really well. Also finally a video about the frames without a ton of variables like so many reviewers do. Would looooove it for you to keep this going with other DH brands as well! Would be an awesome video with the big brands as well and then compared to these CDS bikes, like Specialized, Santa, Scott and the Trek models! Only the fact that it was a full 29er review instead of a mixed one was kinda disappointing, especially now that the YT is also available in MX. But your choice of going all 29er was definitely the better decision. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the great feedback and support! Yes, obviously the YT wasn't available in MX at the time we did the test. But we've ridden the new bike and there will be first impressions on it soon.
Cube Stereo 160 HPC Team has carbon front end, full Fox Factory Bosch 4, 750 battery and is only £4300, how come that is not in this list??? Bonkers.
Because a Cube wasn’t available to test.
@@MBRmagazine I’m surprised at that, I thought Cube would have jumped at the chance.👍
Why worry so much about suspension geometry when now you can use a lightweight frame with a motor set up dirt bike style with a stronger surron like spring in the back. This brings down cost and can actually improve functionality
Super vid,you capture the great feeling of reading the MBR mag.
Yo what's growing out of the side of his head?
His range extender.
Aliens
This theory may pass as battery technology improves look at the New Orbea Rise with an option of a 630Wh battery for the majority of riders that purchase that bike that will be more than enough surely 🤷♂️ without getting the available range extender.
Yes, perhaps it will become less relevant with the next generation of batteries. Certainly, if they get close to 400wh/kg that will allow much more flexibility.
More likely you lose the RS rebound knob and have to adjust rebound with Allen key😂
This is nothing new, I have said this for years, take the stickers off the vast majority of bikes and you wouldn't know which brand it was.
Cool
Super nice 👌 but then I seen the bed frame used for the rear suspension frame...WHY...!?
Range extender in place of water, for longer rides.... Got it makes total sense 😂
Very nice test guys, I have my eye on the Strive:on - hopefully bag it in the next few months, after our home renovations completed. Once tested at Windhill bike park 11-12 Aug (cannot wait!).
Thanks! Guess you saw the test on the Strive:ON?
Don't mount them then , simple solution
⚠️ IM AMAZED THAT MTB RIDERS ARE PAYING 5K-6K- EVEN 7K FOR A Electric BIKE" at (40kg) THAT LIKE PHONES ARE OBSOLETE IN A YEAR OR SO. Takes 3 x more "MATERIALS" to make. NEED'S A ELECTRICITY CHARGING SYSTEM ie "COAL" powered Sub-Station ☣ . The Service cost's are "Extremely Expensive"And Take ages . Your "GUARANTEED" to LOSE THOUSANDS Trying to sell 😱😱.
I'm looking forward to watching this 💪
It's the need for a decent length dropper and a water bottle.
You mean like a Commencal and other bike manufacturers that have been doing this for years?
So I guess we all have to go back and look at some of the first bikes like the Turbo Levo and SpectralON. 6 years later others are catching up 😊
That last part about not needing a range extender that where's we're headed I think. Also what about a battery pack/ quick charger to quickly rechange the main battery in a way that doesn't degrade the battery more than the normal charge rate?
Hello , Are you sure that the power more can be installed on the Cube ONE55 ? I was told that Bosch do not accept to deliver the firmware modification on all the stereo hybrid ebikes equiped with the piggy back shock .
Hmm, not sure to be honest. It’s the first we’ve heard of this but will look into it. 👍
As an engineer and motocross/emtb enthusiasts. I've been sitting on this thought for 3+ years now. The fsr platform with a top tube mounted shock with an extension really is the most efficient packaging on an emtb. As I've told people for years. If you want to build a proper emtb. Copy specialized... 😅 I believe that like motocross bikes. Emtb will settle on what works and refine the design.
Ha! If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Specialized must be permanently blushing!
@@MBRmagazine definitely, thanks for the content 🙏
Tokens are band aid, revalve pal
Hopefully you have had that lump on your neck checked by a doctor?
I had a lump like that....thank god I went straight to the doctors.....turned out I had second stage squamous cell carcinoma......6 weeks of radio and chemo, still here 12 years later , I had that at 36 years old.
Well, then, I will definitely stop mountain biking because I would never buy a bike where the shock is hit to the top two. I’ve remember before, and the feedback that you get through the bike because of the position of the shock is absolutely horrid. Plus most single pivot or linkage driven single pivot should I say definitely done that way and those are not
Yep, I've been saying to my riding buddies for a few years, that our bikes all look similar 🤪
If Fox has to be advertised so much it makes me think that the better shock and fork manufacturers get by with word of mouth and don't need to be pushed so hard. SR Suntour on Isted's bike is one example, Ohlins is another.
Are you at you go ride fox and then go ride rock shocks. I guarantee you’ll go right back to Fox.
@@EMTB17 I tried Mc Donalds then Burger King. Both employ saturation advertising. Now I go local with a more discerning pallet. I ride Sr Suntour I don't feel the need to change.
Pretty much all new e-bikes look like a specialized! LOL
E mountain bikes , yep. Sensible ebikes don't need slack head angles.
Interesting observations, designing bikes not that trivial! 👍
Good video 👌🏻😊 Ps. Beardy fella. Haven't you heard it's rude to talk over people? Let the man speak.
Cuz they are the same scammy bikes...
