Thailand’s $28BN Canal Across Itself Proposal

Thai has proposed constructing a 128 kilometer long canal across the Thai isthmus, bypassing the Malacca strait. The project, which would be 450 meters wide and 25 meters deep, would cost around 28 billion dollars and take 10 years to construct. It would save 1,200 kilometers in travel distance, reducing fuel costs and C0₂ emissions. It would also invigorate Thailand’s economy and allow Chinese vessels to avoid the US military presence near Singapore. However, its excavation would displace thousands of people and harm the natural ecosystem. It would also divide Thailand, allowing Muslim insurgents in the south to expand their movement. Furthermore, it would create tension with Thailand’s regional neighbors and would need highly advanced logistics to compete with Singapore. Lastly, it would put Thailand into debt and the center of a global geopolitical rivalry between China, the US and India. Due to all these issues, the Thai canal has faced serious resistance. Despite this, the Thai government still wants to connect the two oceans and in November 2023, they announced a $36BN land bridge across the isthmus, that would include highways, railways and pipelines. Whether this or the original Thai canal will ever be built, we will just have to wait and see.

If US can blockade Mallaca Strait, why US can't blockade Kra Canal? How China can projecting their military power in Andaman Sea, when Andaman Sea is literally India's territory, and 6th degree Channel is Indonesia's territory? By declaring war to this both nations??? And why Thailand would sacrifice their own lands just serve China interest? Lands is way more precious than all profits they will get, even 200 years of profit will not replace the lost lands.
All the refueling missions are discussed here 3:33 thanks for covering it so comprehensively
Meanwhile a private company can shit on NASA for 1/10 or less of the price. Sorrows to the sweet sweet tax dollars
But in 2060 1million people gonna be on mars so
This just makes me excited Imagine living and see the great dessert turn into Green land Like i'm so exited for Egypt 🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿
Just do desalination more efficient in the long run rather than depending on upstream countries to uphold their end of the bargain just saying
All true
100 times more CO2!
Landing on the moon almost 60 years ago was a monumental thing considering it had never been done before and the computer was basicly in it`s infancy .NASA wants to do it again, but what is the ultimate goal? Is this leading up to a permanent base on the moon? Are these first couple of flights geared for that type of program? Is this just re-hashing, like doing a remake of a hit movie? If they are going to spend all this money I hope this isn`t just another PR stunt by NASA so they can keep the money pipeline open. In 1969 NASA "climbed the mountain" but for the price they want to spend today I hope they will do more than spend a couple of hundred hours there just to plant another flag.
Thanks for that video, the Chinese people are amazing! Three years to build a children's hospital there, in Dublin Ireland the same hospital is eight years and still not finished, and will cost three times the price. Yes, relocation was involved and yes, human rights are compromised in China but as a construction country, they are unsurpassed.
Awesome video, probably the best on the subject. Can't wait to look back at it in a couple years just to realize that almost nothing came true...
Sounds like a lot of talk with nothing to back it up. Anyone can throw out all these different ideas and suggestions but show me the evidence
If sls was fully reusable then the flight is more cheaper 😂
1:50 - WTF with map Crimea?
That will finally make the caspian a real sea
Yes my dad goes to 50 km it tooks about 1 hour
What about Boom SuperSonics Overture
Indeed it is!!
One of the distinct advantages of draining the sea (and certainly NOT mentioned) would be that the present problem for boatpeople would immediately disappear. They would certainly NOT try to settle the newly available land; they would just flood Europe "en masse"! After all, why should they bother building a new culture in a new land, when it is so much easier to sponge on what Europe's ancestors have patiently built for thousands of years.
10 month ago morning star moved, cosmic order, Proxima Centauri , would you please et them know I love them and We are all here , reborn waiting and nervous about unseen beings acting up , chaos, Waiting on you God mom and Missiah ,to meat her and be saved . Tutankhamun messiah, ❤
and it never happened
except most of the money has *magically* disappeared or suddenly the budget is not enough to cover expenses of everything that was planned initially. as per usual
libya makes biggest underground whater network.
Finally Esti people can become Finn's! 😂
Even with its hiccups this project creates quite model for other future transit projects to follow... Automated, electric light rail of the future...
This idea should get started from West coast to East coast asap. Rebuild transportation and get rid of airlines other than to over seas.
Was any of this new construction due to President Biden getting money to rebuild our antiquated highways and power lines in this country. Oh and bridges too? Remember who has really done great things for our country to quickly move us into our fast moving future. Thanks President Biden!
So Civ 5 wasn't wrong...the Egyptians DO love buildings huge things and they don't know why...
Thai is smart. They just proposed this to grab China's money and run. This will never succeed.
if u dont give a shit about nature and stuf just damm the nile where it meats the sea and send that water back into the desert
Manhattan is already sinking 3/4 inch every year. Build more sounds smart.
Awful idea
lol sounds like they need Kim’s approval too😂
I bet Starship HLS will tip over in first landing. There aint concrete pads awaiting. The engineers who build Apollo LM, the most practical and overarchieving spacecraft ever, are rolling on their graves.
Hey buddy, how come YOU were selected to go to the moon? I scored the highest, I was the best of the best...hey buddy, why were YOU selected? Cause I'm black....
Source : trust me
No.
It hasn’t worked yet what makes anyone think it will work now? Having supposedly gone to the moon is the greatest lie ever told!
Sana successful 😊
Plz do Kaladan Multipurpose India-Myanmar
Plz do Kaladan Multipurpose India-Myanmar
It can’t be done without China’s help, period.
So what about instead fo spending incredible amount of money on gigaproject that might not work, applying birth limitation rules to turn back the overpopulation.
china tried that and now their working population is dying out
Inga 3 is 2km WEST of Inga 2, 6:45.
Great vid! Superbly made. For Artemis 3 the orbital refueling needs to be invented, tested and proven if I'm not mistaken.
This reminds me of the scale of NASA's vision of the Apollo era in the early 1960's. A lot was achieved, but a lot was not. Here's to a hopeful vision of the next generation of space exploration. Just no death stars, empires, transporters or holodecks please!!
Honestly I really hope space exploration can finally kick start the nations to actually make world peace, but thats kinda just talking to a brick wall so i'm not sure, but at least we got the moon bases soon to come.
