Saudi Arabia is constructing a $500BN city of the future in the desert. Called NEOM, the new city is being built to help diversify the Saudi economy away from oil and build a sustainable future. As part of this project, the Saudi royal family has unveiled plans for The Line, a 170 kilometer long skyscraper city that will have a 3D-design filled with advanced technology, luscious parks and AI services. In addition to the Line, plans have been revealed for Oxagon, a 7-kilometer wide floating port city, and Trojena, a top-class mountain tourist destination. However, while these proposals look beautiful in the renders, they are filled with issues. Clouded by the hubris of the Saudi royal family, their designs have been filled with expensive and impractical elements. This is a shame as the project has the potential to be a major source of positivity for the country. Hopefully, the plans can be looked at and carefully redesigned to be more realistic and beneficial for the general populous.

That's far from it being finished or maintained in a long run, especially in a desert environment, where water is practically zero. I see this a fancy commercial of a controversial design to get the world talking for a chance this can become a success for saudi, only that people are not stupid and can foresee how flawed this design is.

Where would the water come from? Well the Red Sea is at one end so they'll probably build a desalination plant and pump it to the other end of the city. Indoor vegetation would loose far less water to evaporation. Air conditioning would be more efficient overall when the entire city is indoors so warm air doesn't regularly mix with cool air.
However it is on too grand a scale: I think they should build this on a much smaller scale but design it so it can be extended.

Can you please make a video about the proposal to flood the Qattara depression in Egypt? It's geniuenly interesting, as it will have many benefits, like slowing down the climate emergency to some extent, adding more rainfall to Africa and permanently reactivating an ancient river system in the Sinai peninsula, as well as creating a new tourist attraction and the prospect of seawater mining. However there are a few problems with the project, most notably that the Qattara depression is connected to the Nubian Sandstone Aquifier system, the largest of it's kind in the world. Please make a video about this!

At 6:00 the example of the friend is wrong. If the size of the circular city is 100km diameter and the linear city is also 100km, then the distance is equal. A circular city has the advantage that more areas can be closer to the center of a city.

It could easily be modernized, it can expand organically and gradually with people and most of the problems that will arise already has a solution to it and it will be very attractive to tourists too. People are attracted to a cities culture. Saudi also has a big sex ratio problem its gonna get worse in the future, I don't think anyone outside the country are even gonna move to the city.

Saudi Arabia would HAVE to relocate it's population to Neom... ?? WTF
Look at Doha, 85% of the population is expat workers. As in... 85% of the city's population are from other parts of the world who have come to the city because they built it and... they did come. Building New Cities from ground up, creates New Jobs and New Careers... so therefore it has a Global attraction.
You stated because of sex inequalities etc bla bla bla ... the country could NEVER populate such a city.
Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, I could carry on but I would digress. The constructing of does not necessitate nor require locals to be 'Forced' Relocation to populate. IF Saudi did choose to Force Relocate, it could. The leader has Absolute Power to do as so chooses. Foreign Concept to you as you have obviously been conditioned by US socio-economics that ... people ONLY force themselves to relocate because Business has demanded it - or they joined the US Govt National Jobs Programme - the US Military. The job of last resort for those without a job, without education, without training to do anything.
A 170km wall of 500m in height, looks a very good Break Water for future mega Tsunamis (tectonic to objects from space hitting the Earth).
Additionally the E-W wall from Coast to Mountains is the baseline of what will in future be expanded to the North to make a 170km x 170+km square or rectangle.
You personally do not like it because it eliminates the Need / Requirement for a CAR! LOL
When it comes to funding... Saudi Arabia has the funds to construct ANYTHING. So why not during the era when they have oil and are raking in it's revenue streams, spend it on Hard Heavy Infrastructure that all have the potential to be there for hundreds of years.
This is another very un-USonian ideology of ... a house is worn out after 30 years so scrap, bulldoze, and build another. US housing cycle is not sustainable in the 21st century. lol
May I suggest you spend a decade living in countries - any countries for at least a Decade, two or more and you would see there is Life on Earth outside the USA and no - the rest of world does not want, need, desire to replicate the US Model of the never ending suburbs. They do end when collide with the next city's sprawling suburbs. hahaha
