Saudi Arabia is constructing a $500BN city of the future in the desert. Called NEOM, the new city is being built to help diversify the Saudi economy away from oil and build a sustainable future. As part of this project, the Saudi royal family has unveiled plans for The Line, a 170 kilometer long skyscraper city that will have a 3D-design filled with advanced technology, luscious parks and AI services. In addition to the Line, plans have been revealed for Oxagon, a 7-kilometer wide floating port city, and Trojena, a top-class mountain tourist destination. However, while these proposals look beautiful in the renders, they are filled with issues. Clouded by the hubris of the Saudi royal family, their designs have been filled with expensive and impractical elements. This is a shame as the project has the potential to be a major source of positivity for the country. Hopefully, the plans can be looked at and carefully redesigned to be more realistic and beneficial for the general populous.

How tf was this vid made 7 hours before its actual release
What’s crazy is this isn’t a hypothetical. They have already started construction on the line.
ik i love how fast were growing
The saudi royal family has direct access to trillions in liquid funds and an entire country of workers.
They need to finish the rest of this video before they continue building.
@@VarietyGamerChannel and then they spend it in shitty things
That's far from it being finished or maintained in a long run, especially in a desert environment, where water is practically zero. I see this a fancy commercial of a controversial design to get the world talking for a chance this can become a success for saudi, only that people are not stupid and can foresee how flawed this design is.
Met a Saudi guy at a bar in Florida last weekend. I brought up this line city, and he and his friends got so excited about it. Started rambling in Arabic and then got my number and wanted to be best friends. Cool guys!😂
Were they drinking alcohol? Lol
They get along with everybody. Look at their fans in the World Cup
That's Florida for ya 🤣
@Europe is better than the US normal in Saudi to take guy number. no homo :) cultural thing
@Europe is better than the US they can mangle and would like to make new friends “men” not necessarily they are gay 🤣
Luxury prison that's one impressive budget for a jail
Because you don’t know how it is in Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia climate is hot and dry all year round no rain if it rains in Saudi Arabia maybe once every five years the regular temperature there is 120+ Fahrenheit you cannot go outside for 10 minutes because you will get a heat stroke that’s why we only go out at night or to Mall which make our life difficult that’s why this project is a game changer for us we can live in a desert without having the casualties of dying from a heat stroke that is wrong that that is what’s wrong with you Westerners you only think of yourself you don’t think about other😂😂 people and how they are living.
It’s a fucking hot desert nothing can live there that’s why we need closed AC places to live and survive and thrive😂😂 do you know that sometimes cars explode in Saudi Arabia from the heat😂😂
Where would the water come from? Well the Red Sea is at one end so they'll probably build a desalination plant and pump it to the other end of the city. Indoor vegetation would loose far less water to evaporation. Air conditioning would be more efficient overall when the entire city is indoors so warm air doesn't regularly mix with cool air.
However it is on too grand a scale: I think they should build this on a much smaller scale but design it so it can be extended.
There have also been efforts by the Saudis to import nuclear reactors just for this purpose.
Desalination consumes incredible amounts of energy, especially on that scale. This project makes no sense to me already at the building stages, let alone maintenance in such environment.
Can you please make a video about the proposal to flood the Qattara depression in Egypt? It's geniuenly interesting, as it will have many benefits, like slowing down the climate emergency to some extent, adding more rainfall to Africa and permanently reactivating an ancient river system in the Sinai peninsula, as well as creating a new tourist attraction and the prospect of seawater mining. However there are a few problems with the project, most notably that the Qattara depression is connected to the Nubian Sandstone Aquifier system, the largest of it's kind in the world. Please make a video about this!
Futuristic city, medieval social values.
There is a project that takes you back to the ancient centuries as well, and it is a journey through time project in the city of Al-Ula, which will link ancient Arab civilizations with a tram to be the largest living museum in the world in which institutes, exhibitions, academies, archaeological, heritage and cultural arts, etc. are held.. to be one of the largest archaeological gems that tourists will be keen to visit from all over The world after it was a sleeping city rich in archaeological treasures
The civilization of Thamud, the kingdom of Dadan, the kingdom of Lihyan, the Nabateans, and others were a corridor for commercial caravans before history, and it was in the Al-Ula oasis one of the most famous Arab love stories, the story of Jamil and Qais, which contains a collection of poetry by the poet Qais, as he flirts with the beauty of his beloved
9 000 000 people would be around the same population as New York

I'll believe in this project when it is completed. Emphasis on when.
😂😂
🤣🤣
@@liamwinter4512 I would say If it gets completed. IF. It's highly unlikely an unfeasible.
Wow, you summed this up so well
Couldn’t say it better myself. The ambition, the shift away from car infrastructure, urban design, goal of sustainable development, and shift away from hydrocarbons is all great stuff.
However it’s Saudi Arabia…..
At 6:00 the example of the friend is wrong. If the size of the circular city is 100km diameter and the linear city is also 100km, then the distance is equal. A circular city has the advantage that more areas can be closer to the center of a city.
I don't think so? If the diameter of a circular city was 100km, the linear city point-to-point would be about 314km (the circumference). You are right that a circular city has a greater advantage in areas being closer together.
That's mind blowing project 👌. I hope they put affordable cost unlike uae 😌
Unaffordable*
Its easier to make a wire 175km across
Yet this is next level (epic)
It is definitively sci-fi, specifically dystopian sci-fi
How is it dystopian
@@katjerouac idk it gives me some elysium vibes: you have an idyllic place for the 1% while the rest of the world burns in hell

it's unthinkable as a common man like me that build the mirror glass wall in 170km total length and 500 meter high for possible to pass through with train in 20 minute from end to end. thanks for your valuable information
What high tech is going to be there or is it going to compete with India for service centre calls?
It's just a Next level project, very excited for experiencing the line 2.0
It's a next-level of stupidity for sure.
Besides the Neom desert project venture!
They said the same thing with Dubai, UAE
I think they need to double down actually.
Create THE CUBE.
Or go back to the orginal "line" concept of a bunch of large towns / mini cities connected in a line. But instead of this whole underground idea, just... dig a canal.
This project is the epitome.Of Too Much Money, and not enough common sense.
Because you don’t know the Saudi Arabia weather is is hot dry all year round with no rain sometime we get rain once every five years and it’s only for 3 to 6 hours long that’s why it’s so hot if you go out you can get a heat stroke that’s why we need closed AC places to survive and thrive because currently sometime we cannot go out at noon we go out only at night that is making our life difficult.
@@thesaudiman2108 What about city planning covering that in an actually feasable way
Why not make a city that looks similar to ancient Arabia in its architecture and buildings? It could easily be modernized, it can expand organically and gradually with people and most of the problems that will arise already has a solution to it and it will be very attractive to tourists too. People are attracted to a cities culture. Saudi also has a big sex ratio problem its gonna get worse in the future, I don't think anyone outside the country are even gonna move to the city.
There's no better idea than building a ski park in 50 degrees Celsius... Poor slaves that have to build this stuff.
Build a wall.
I don't understand the significance of saving so much land area. I mean this type of design is suitable for countries like Singapore or other small countries as they don't have large landmasses, so they can go upwards. It's unnecessary for them, they can make a city which is spread all around.
Another Tower of Babbel. They need to green those deserts first. That would attract tourism and investments.
They are going about it all the wrong way. They love mega projects. The prince said this will be his "pyramids". I agree. Just a useless monument.
Its impossible to do that
Everyone needs tbh , who beleived neom was gonna succeed
It won't succeed. Just like many other mega projects by these oil producing nations. It's a joke.
It did not succed
Maybe the prince wanted billions in free publicity.
And here I thought this was going to be just another video about how great this stupid project was going to be. Glad you had some common sense.
Emagine The Olympics In There
Even if these projects radically change over time to make them more realistic, it’s still cool that they’re investing in their country to keep them relevant into the future. Don’t see the US doing that.
A City I won't live, not even all include paid. This amount of money could be well used maybe finding the way to reduce the CO2 on air and reduce the increase of the surface temperature, that would be a better gesture from the Saudies for the humankind, jus saying.
Saudi Arabia is richer than Elon musk
I’m 19 and gay so i’ll be beheaded if I move there. Sad because it looks really cool.
the line city looks kind of dumb, they should just build an arcology.
"Kind of dumb" is a massive understatement
More money than sense ...
i would have thought when people think of saudi Arabia they think of women in black garbage bag.. about time MBS encourage their women to look like human being..
now they will think of expensive retarded projects
The abaya and veil are found in the monotheistic religions, and you will see them in the pious Jewish women, church women, and Muslim women, and they are in the heavenly books.
Therefore, do not be foolish and try to make it as if it were a personal, political or cultural problem between you and Prince Mohammed bin Salman
Is a religious matter you can read Surat Al-Nur
Hijab is the protection of women from the seduction and harassment of foreign men. You can read the crimes of sexual harassment and rape in the official statistics in Western countries and the percentage of children of adultery, and you will know the difference between the moral values of religious women in the heavenly religions and between immodest women.
Gross comment from a rotten person.
You know this city will be for the rich.
The message in the end of the video is just amazing ❤️❤️ Hope the Monarchy of MBS atleast look into this and make some changes!! Never knew MBS was educated and still approved this dumb project, what a waste of resources 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
NEOM has been you first video and now you cover this up again
And still you against neom like in the past
😊👍
Be real , the challenge to humanity development of the nation means feeding its population and self sustaining within? One million volunteers awaits to develope new giga farms,, yes farms for food development foe the one human nation concept? Fraction of the cost., be real food and water is key to human rights creed
this is Saudi attempt at building the great pyramid.
this "project" is just some saudi student playing with CAD .. i guarantee this will be cancelled within a few months owing to the project's sheer lunacy .. they’re like kids with endless pocket money
Your comment is so ignorant you’re only think about yourself about your American whether that has rain and cold temperature in Saudi Arabia’s weather is hot dry all year goes up to 140 Fahrenheit plus you can get a heat stroke from it and die we only can go at night or places that has ax that’s why this project is a game changer can change our life and how we live in the middle of a fucking Desert😂
this projekt is going to be a massiv flop
The Line Project itself is a flop

Everybody talks about how it started constructing.. i bet you 100% will not finish lol
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA !!!
Suddenly the original design becomes preferable to this garbage
buuuuul shit
Saudi Arabia would HAVE to relocate it's population to Neom... ?? WTF
Look at Doha, 85% of the population is expat workers. As in... 85% of the city's population are from other parts of the world who have come to the city because they built it and... they did come. Building New Cities from ground up, creates New Jobs and New Careers... so therefore it has a Global attraction.
You stated because of sex inequalities etc bla bla bla ... the country could NEVER populate such a city.
Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, I could carry on but I would digress. The constructing of does not necessitate nor require locals to be 'Forced' Relocation to populate. IF Saudi did choose to Force Relocate, it could. The leader has Absolute Power to do as so chooses. Foreign Concept to you as you have obviously been conditioned by US socio-economics that ... people ONLY force themselves to relocate because Business has demanded it - or they joined the US Govt National Jobs Programme - the US Military. The job of last resort for those without a job, without education, without training to do anything.
A 170km wall of 500m in height, looks a very good Break Water for future mega Tsunamis (tectonic to objects from space hitting the Earth).
Additionally the E-W wall from Coast to Mountains is the baseline of what will in future be expanded to the North to make a 170km x 170+km square or rectangle.
You personally do not like it because it eliminates the Need / Requirement for a CAR! LOL
When it comes to funding... Saudi Arabia has the funds to construct ANYTHING. So why not during the era when they have oil and are raking in it's revenue streams, spend it on Hard Heavy Infrastructure that all have the potential to be there for hundreds of years.
This is another very un-USonian ideology of ... a house is worn out after 30 years so scrap, bulldoze, and build another. US housing cycle is not sustainable in the 21st century. lol
May I suggest you spend a decade living in countries - any countries for at least a Decade, two or more and you would see there is Life on Earth outside the USA and no - the rest of world does not want, need, desire to replicate the US Model of the never ending suburbs. They do end when collide with the next city's sprawling suburbs. hahaha
