Repairing the randomly honking horn on my Firebird was too hard

My thirdgen F-Body would honk the horn whenever I used the indicator. So, I diagnose and solve the problem in this video. Great video as always Mario. I've purchased the update also but I've been holding off on the update for now and following the various Facebook user groups to make sure it's stable before I install it. I use Android Auto wirelessly with my Vline in the LS460. You can also adjust the DPI in the menu for Android Auto and get more real-estate on the screen (I like mine between 115 and 125) I think GROM also released an update for that Portrait mode issue recently. I recently heard of a company here in Australia that makes a Linux based integration for Android Auto called Crown Focus. Anything happens to my Vline, I'll go down that route personally. That POP is concerning. It could blow up the speakers. Hope it gets a little better for you eventually.

    I updated mine to 12.0 and I notice that connecting to my phone from cold start, auto resume AA/CP from warm start, and UI is generally much faster than compared to older android version. The CP UI is the exact same (they should definitely update this to reflect the newer A12 UI to match) but the other pages, settings, button icons are much nicer and sleeker. I bought the pre-order and got it for $24.99 and I had the update ready to install within the second day of release. I also get the speaker pop-in noise when I cold start the car. One other thing I noticed, maybe just a Apple/CP bug, but CP Maps will freeze and stay in place. I just have to turn on and off the ignition and it fixes itself quickly and is not a huge issue in daily usage. This time, before the A12 upgrade, I did install all the GApps and it caused the head unit to factory reset, which it does warn you about when you try to install. Just make sure to read carefully. I did notice that it did keep my iPhone as an option both after the GApps install, and the A12 update, which was nice. Overall I’m pretty impressed but there’s still a long way to go. I still think $35 is highway robbery considering I paid $600 for mine in November 2021. If I had a choice to do it all over again from the start, I’d still probably go with the GROM VL2 or if I really wanted to save money, go with the chinese knockoff with the vertical Tesla-style screens. On reporting for Apple devices: it’s smooth, seamless, and does a great job of auto-launching CP when I get in, loaded up before I put the car into D. It seems like it also improved the sound quality of music but could be a placebo.

      FWIW, I have it installed on a 2008 Lexus GS350, which is the VL5 system, but I believe is identical to Mario’s system for his LS (iirc). I also purchased the Factory Mic retention cable, and installed it, in involves tapping into 2 mic lines (- & +, red/black) from the back of the main unit. I disassembled my sunroof overhead panel where the factory mic and sunroof controls reside, cleaned/dusted it all out, and added some foam around the crevices where the factory mic seats into to reduce vibrations and road noise to the mic while driving. You have to tune the mic gain and I let the car do it using its function on the VL2 settings. I tested the call quality using method of calling my Google Voice number and leaving long voicemails at 5, 35, and 60MPH using cell calling and also Facetime Audio. It was working fine and was a big improvement over the included mic but I adjusted the mic gain again and it’s just bleh now so I’ll have to re-adjust again. I also want to see the utilization of the secondary HDMI to plug in a nicer capacitive touchscreen and perhaps overlay it on the original screen. We’ll see what GROM does in the future though.

    Thanks for the review! I've tried Grom maybe like 5 years ago and wasn't impressed, so when I finally needed a Carplay unit for LS, I did my research and found Teyes CC3. They are using some chinese hardware (which you can actualy buy yourself and save some money) but I believe the software is developed in Australia. I contacted the guys, discussed with them and was ensured that everything should work as intended. Including steering wheel buttons, front (and rear) AC controls, backup camera, etc. I've ordered the unit with upgraded screen (2k) and I can say I was very impressed with the quality of the hardware as well as software. Install is a bit hard, since you need to change the OEM screen and frame, as well as wire backup camera (at least in UCF31), but apart that, it's plug & play. And I can say I'm very happy with it. If you are looking for a Carplay/Android Auto device for LS and want to update not just the software but the screen also, you should look into it.

    Thank you for the very informative video. I own an LS600hL that I absolutely love. It is my 4th Lexus and by far the best car I have ever owned. I got all the bells and whistles on it, upgraded chrome wheels, and just about every other option available. Lately, I have considered upgrading to a newer car simply so I can connect my android phone to my Mark Levinson system and get Spotify streaming and Google Maps. It's a very difficult decision as there are so many options (i.e. FM demodulators, 3rd party bluetooth connections which are really FM demodulators), using the AUX input, etc.) I was considering getting the Grom VLine VL2 system as it looked like a great way to update my system. At the end of your video, you said that although you love the Vline VL2, if you had it to do over again, you would consider a different solution primarily due to the VL2's old Android version and how the hardware was too obsolete and insecure - especially for the price. I looked at your list of other possible solutions that replace the OEM screen. I reviewed quite a few of them, but none of them were perfect. I was concerned how they might affect the fantastic Mark Levinson audio system I have. It is a fantastic system where all the components are very well balanced with a great sound. Your video was extremely helpful as it showed how the ML system was not affected, but I was concerned about the outdated interface and especially about the Android version not supporting newer apps. As I continued to search for a solution, I found that the Grom Vline VL2 just released a new VLine VL2 with Android Version 12 on June 25th. It looks like this Android 12 upgrade will provide support for the latest apps that might not be available for the old Android version 8.1 such as USB audio, LTE modems, separate video out for rear seat displays (HDMI OUT) and a more polished Android UI. I am ordering this new Grom VLine VL2 and take one for the team. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again for taking the time to make such an informative video for us all to consider. Great job!

    But, one question. Two years ago I was thinking about living in CH, it really looks like in poster cards, it is totally not fair fot the countryside to look that pretty and I was daydreaming on property sale sites. Back to my question. Why not buy land, and build your dream garage, with a bedroom attached? You mentioned in the previous post that land is expensive, but the plot size still is 200k cheaper than with the house, and almost 300k with the renovation.

    • @flavioc5389
      @flavioc5389 Před 10 dny

      It’s very difficult to find buildable land in Switzerland. You might see a lot of “empty” fields in Switzerland but by law they can only be used for agriculture or forests. And construction is also expensive and hindered by a lot of regulations.

    • @swisscarguy
      @swisscarguy Před 10 dny

      Also, land you need to buy outright, you cannot put a mortgage on it. With somewhat liveable, buildable land near actual civilization starting at CHF 500.-/m2 a 1000m2 plot would cost at least half a million. That you have to pay with your own money. If in a more urban zone you easily end up paying a million (or more) just for the land. And then you have to build. With all the headaches, permits and objections you can face. Building easily takes another 500k and you can face long delays if objections come in or god forbid a rare bird species is found nisting on your plot and the wildlife protection agency gets involved.

    • @AtentieCadMere
      @AtentieCadMere Před 9 dny

      @@swisscarguy ok, same issue here, in Ro. You can't mortgage land, permits usually take a year, you need 26 different documents, the actual house ends up costing 35 to 100% more than projected, and it takes longer to finish. I ended up doing the same thing, bought a house and renovated. still with all things done, I wish I would have waited to start from scratch, or demolish and rebuild (if the bank allowed). it might have been, if not for sure cheaper, then better. ok, enjoy the house and the garage, it's a nice place you have there!

    I enjoyed my time owning an early SL55. Those few years will always be etched in my mind. I could leave work early on a Friday, drive 7 hours south to drive a road course on Saturday, then drive 4 hours north to drag race on Sunday, and arrive home late that night in complete comfort. The SL does everything well just not great. But at 625hp after a bit of wrench turning it made me smile. But then the repairs start to hit, and hit, and hit. Then it’s time for tires. Price out a full set of Pilot Sports, ouch! Don’t forget the rear brakes are used for traction control. Yes large brakes are amazing until you buy a set. I still say everyone should still own one, they are just fun!! My early model had the banging fuel tank baffle. To replace the tank you drop the rear suspension then the tank. I sold my beloved SL55 and replaced it with a V8 Miata. Love the MX5 but still lust after another SL55. Thanks for the awesome video.

    Fascinating to hear the purchase costs Mario, although the figures are mind boggling. Your fixed mortgage is a great idea. Prior to starting the purchase of my house (some 30 years ago) the interest rates had been 15%+. So I fixed the mortgage for many years (at a much lower rate) to "buy" security and it was well worth it. Your renovation plans are exciting and it will radically improve your house. Good luck with all the work in the months ahead. 🙂

    Sounds great, Mario. I'm in the middle of completely renovating my house, so a few thoughts for you. Cat 8 cable is overkill, it is very thick and rigid so it's difficult to run. I'm using Cat 6a with 10GBs fibre between floors. The price for the heat pump is crazy, I think I paid €20k for mine including all plumbing. For lighting I have a mix of LED spots and LED strip lights which are all controlled by KNX automation. Given that you are living in a "rough" area, perhaps an alarm system and security cameras? Best of luck with your project and please do a few updates on progress.

    A few updates during renovation would be interesting. I think your plans are solid, in a small space every bit of floor space you can free up will yield a lot of benefit. To this American, the renovation cost sounds as-expected, outside of the heat pump (unless they’re proposing a geothermal one?). And yes, lesson learned, I’m 43 and in my house for 13 years and still suffering with rose colored tile and elderly looking paint colors and all - and my 90yr old father lives with me…I should have renovated before we moved in as disruption is now impossible! It was not cheap, but you seem to be happy and now you know why you get up in the morning. I like your renovation plan. Careful with leaving the upper floor untouched for now. This could be a very costly mistake, talk to a pro about it. Also check the wood heating if it works or not, if it is problematic, I would change some priorities, you do not want a freezing house in winter.

      The second story is basically no issue and can be done separately. My contractor said it, too. The heating works, I fired it up to test it once. And last winter they fired it, too on roder to keep the house from freezing over (even though it was a very mild winter).

    Mario, You might need to modify your UTube channel as a Swiss guy with a cars & house.

    Hope you gonna read my comment so I’m putting important stuff first - Be aware of floor in the first floor. I remember from your previous video that this floor is creaking and shaking while you walk on it. It looks like floor is made old school from wooden boards on wooden beams that form structure of the house as well. Why I’m writing about it? While I understand why are you leaving first floor way it is for now I also salute you for doing reconstruction work proper way to avoid later regrets and even bigger expenses later on. Be careful about floor/ceiling structure as it may not be possible (Depending on exact construction type) to make things right or/and may get much more expensive when you finally get to the first floor renovation. Imagine that ground floor is perfectly done to your liking costed you significant amount of money and you have to re-do some it due to renovation of first floor. As it is very often while doing renovations trying no to destroy some part of house that will stay - it costs more money than being built from the scratch but quality and functionality is compromised and something that supposed to stay is damaged from renovation works (like scratched tiles, dented kitchen etc.). Not saying that it is 100% your case. Just want to make you aware from my experiences. Otherwise big congratulations on the house. Looks like great buy actually. Even though you’re doing some costly changes you are still profiting from the fact it’s fairly new house and also from the fact you haven’t paid new build price. I remember that few times people thought I overpaid for properties. I didn’t cared what they thought but obviously I’m not going to call myself real estate master so it made me think. After not a long time after I was reassured by market, real estate’s experts and even by those who were saying I overpaid that I didn’t. Many just have difficult time to see real prices (everything is expensive for them and they are not buying anything never even though they technically could) and also can’t see potential of property. What can be done cheaply and easily and will improve property rapidly it’s not coming to their mind. While they are amazed when it’s done. Don’t get stopped by those people. Years ago I bought two wine cellars for very little money. Many said it’s worthless purchase. Nowadays value is up 7 times. Not bad considering it was just 2017. I bought garden to extend my current garden behind my house in 2021. Many said it’s too expensive for my village. This was end of summer 2021 right before prices went rapidly up. Nobody thought same about overpaying few months later or ever since. Few family members didn’t understand how I could’ve bought building land with forest and illegal skip on it even though they agreed it’s cheap but they thought it’s cheap for that reason. Not much of work and even less money was required and now it’s spacious peaceful but still easily reachable building land that is valued for 5 times more and same people appreciate place. Some people can spot potential some cannot. Same as many other things. Nobody’s good at everything. Anyway can’t wait to see renovated house but most importantly- smaller projects in and around the house you’ll be doing by yourself.

      Thanks for the input. I will have the contractor check that the second floor isn't actually compromised. Otherwise, you're right, it needs to be fixed now.

    I love in Turkey. Since last 5 year we are living in hyper inflation thanks to the our government. Anyway. For home ownership, anything below 2% annual is good investment for buying good house. Just after the covid I brought my home around 1.5m in Tr Lira. All of my friends told me I'm dumb. Just imagine like this: if the inflation will go high, also networth of house will go up more than inflation. Having your yearly payments fixed is a good thing. Thanks to the high inflation in TR (I hate to say... ) , Now my home gained 5x value with near negligible payments monthly. Congratulations for your new home. It is a good investment in every aspect. My house is 50/50 hardwood + ceramic tiles. My wife and myself decided while renovation. This is the biggest mistake. Just use ceramic tiles. They are better.

      1.5m in Lira isn't that bad. Nowadays stuff cost 6 million Lira (simple Condo in Istanbul for example).

    The English word you're looking for at about 4:25 is "appraiser" who "appraises" the house. An "appraisal" is an opinion of the value of that specific property. Congrats on the house, Mario!

    Well done, you paid much less than I guessed, and now own a house and the car infrastructure, rather than renting. It has a lot of potential, congratulations!

    Forget about using the wood elevator for cables. You need a Batpole for quick car access!

    Paying the government rent on a house you bought with taxed income. You Swiss must have Stockholm Syndrome. It's a bit cuckoo. Mind you, your flag is a big plus.
