After picking my 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am up and driving it for the first time in the previous video, here's the reveal of the exterior.
The Trans Am is painted in a stunning sonic blue and has screaming chickens all over. I love it! Considering I bought this car sight unseen, I am very pleased with its general condition.
So, if you can't grow a mullet, a mustache is the next best thing to drive a car like this.
Screeaming Chickeeen! 🐔
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rear spoiler it's a must mate👍
One item to add to your costume would be a mullet wig rather then the straw cowboy hat. A mullet is de rigueur for a Camaro (or Firebird) owner. They've been called a 'Camaro crash helmet'. But i get the Smokey and the Bandit guise.😁 Cheers!
: / THE HAIR STYLE OF THE 80s WAS NOT A "MULLET"!!!!! ONLY MORONS HAD A MULLET!!! THE CORRECT NAME OF THE MOST POPULAR MENS HAIRSTYLE IN THE 80s IS CALLED: A BI LEVEL! THE TOP WAS A LITTLE SHORTER THAN THE BACK, AND THE SIDES BLENDED THE TOP AND BACK TOGETHER.. THE POP STAR RICK SPRINGFIELD HAD THIS HAIR CUT ON HIS DEBUT ALBUM COVER ( WORKING CLASS DOG ) THAT WAS THE EARLY 80s LOOK, AND THEN THAT STYLE JUST GREW OUT A LITTLE MAKING THE HAIR A BIT BIGGER. BUT NEVER A "MULLET"!
@@rockybalboa2526 NOPE...SEE HERE...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mullet_(haircut) ITSA MULLET, A BI-LEVEL IS A HOUSE. SO UNLESS YOU'RE WEARING A HOUSE ON YER HEAD, YOU'VE GOT A MULLET FRIEND. BTW, THERE'S A BIG BUTTON ON THE LH SIDE OF YOUR KEYBOARD MARKED ''CAPS LOCK''. INVESTIGATE ITS USE, OTHERWISE, YOU JUST APPEAR ALL ANGRY AND JUDGEY AND WE JUST KNOW THAT'S NOT YOU!!!😁
I love the car. I dislike the mustache and muffler.
New tires, Magnaflow muffler, and a tune up is all I would do.
❤ 🚘
Mario! Mein favorite swiss criminal car youtuber! Glad to see you finaly bought some 80s mafioso car :-)
Nice car, and no you're not insane. And I agree with your kind assessment about its retro '80's vibe. I saw an '85 once when they were brand new coming out of a car wash and have been in love ever since. So cool that you have the European version. I finally have the finances to purchase one and am looking for just the right car. BTW, keep the mustache, as you make Burt Reynolds proud.
I love the sleek and possibly good aerodynamics of the Trans Am, it's sporty-looking. Retro cars have the potential and can be revived with modern hardware. I gotta love anyone with a Trans Am, can give a Knight Rider KITT makeover, up to you if you want it to be a show car or everyday and legal on the road.
Nice car, great taste. Beautiful blue color, like new condition. Would have liked to see the undercarriage being Uni-Body construction. Enjoy! My 83 Z28 has an LS and 4L65E trans, makes massive difference in driving experience. Will watch for your updates. Cheers!
Ah, a Knight Rider fan, me too. That's why I am watching this now. Personally, I'm okay with the red colour but this one is nice. Gorgeous styling and classic lines. Judging by the clips on the rear window glass, I would say the missing rear spoiler is structural and would be best replaced. That is a big piece of glass! The screws in the trim will be to stop rattles and squeaks. I had to do that with my Astra!
Car looks great and if you like it, that's ALL that matters.
3 comments: 1-Nearly every American car I've seen from that era has a fallen headliner (caused by deterioration of the foam backing on the fabric). The headliner just needs to be replaced. 2-An R134A converted system is slightly less efficient but should be more than adequate for Swiss summers. 3-Sometimes a ridge forms in the throttle body that interferes with the initial opening of the throttle plate. That should be easy to fix.
Enjoy!
Cool car ! Funny how the euro export version has different tail lights, but it looks good .
Good look man, it suits you very well, even better than the previous
Mario, I think you should fix the headliner, sort out the gremlins and get rid of the red exhaust. It looks like an aftermarket mishap. I think the car looks classy, maybe even better without the spoiler. Good luck with it.
You look great, no matter what you wear. Good choice
Love the 'stache!
Love the 'stash! I think secretly all men want moustaches but most are "convinced" by their better half to shave it!
damn, I was so close when guessing Fiero!
I find it interesting how cars trigger certain emotions (that's why we like them, right?). Exactly at 23:11 in this video I remembered and felt the same excitement as when I bought my first car and I had this amazing feeling from new to me car - my first car which was also sports car (argue on that if you feel like :D ) - used Mazda Mx-5 NA 1991. I felt so exited zipping around in my new roadster on tight streets of smaller English town. That feeling of warm yet breezy air in my hair. Spring air. Sort of perfect rumble of rusted exhaust. Pop-up headlights up. Bulge on the hood even-though just 1.6 four pot was hiding under the bonnet. :D Just loved it. One of the best feels I've ever had in a car and I'm counting in some occasions that included dogging. :D
FYI, the rear hood vents are not on correctly. The opening is supposed to face the fender.
These cars are also much better as sports cars than you're giving them credit for when optioned correctly. Their production sports car racing success is evidence of that. This particular one just happens to be optioned more as a cruiser.
Hey new old car guy. I just found your video here and you, for the first time. I watched the video, i used to like these cars too. Now i want to respond to your asking the audience to give you their views on the car, on fixing it or not, and on your mustache. As for this car? I think if you really just wanted a low cost super car of the 80s, that was cool, sporty, quick, fun, with t-tops or sun roof, and for it to be narrow for the roads in switzerland? THEN YOU SHOULD SELL THIS AND GET AN 87-89 CORVETTE C4.. MUUUUUUUUUCH BETTER THAN THIS CAR. AND HAS EVERYTHING YOU WANT! I also want to point out that there is a better, and faster trans am from the 80s. It is the 1989 version with the 5.7 tune point fuel injected GM engine, and it has a better rear, and a sophisticated suspension package. ( the WS6 suspension ) BUT THE CORVETTE IS STILL MUUUUUUUUUUUCH BETTER. ( and will have EVERYTHING YOU WANT IN AN low cost 80a sports car ) I think the 89 trans am gta is the best model all around of the 80s trans ams ( but i think the 82 trans am looks the best inside and out, with the t-tops ) I would replace the engine, transmission, rear and suspension on it though, if i had one. and i would add fender flairs and thicker tires in the rear too. And ofcourse i would improve the exhaust also. These things are essential to me, in terms of "THE RIDE AND FUN QUALITIES" ...... NOW ABOUT "YOU". I Think you sounded like Arnold Schwarzenegger, have the personality of "inspector clouseau" ( peter sellers ) if you havent seen the original pink panther movies? You really should ( the very first one was called: " a shot in the dark" And it is hilarious. When you see it? you will see yourself in the character "inspector clouseau" ... Lastly, i think you should get rid of the mustache, and either grow your hair back? ( if you grow it longer on the front top? It will hang over your forehead and look good! Or? seriously, look into getting a wig. Many people wear wigs and if you get a good one, they are not noticeable. and you will look like your younger self. ( your face is youger looking now than in that picture you showed ) Ok, those are MY THOUGHTS.... All the best to you~
7000 the cheapest car you ever bought? Now I wanna see you buy the cheapest inspected running and driving car in Switzerland! Do it like Hoovie :D I want to see what you can get from the auction.
This is not bad idea. 🤔
Cool car
Spend the two grand! 😁
You need a spoiler on the hatch, like the black car.
I subscribe to "It's a car I always liked but never wanted..." ;)
Until just a few years ago these cars were literally given away for an apple and an egg. THere were just two kinds of people who still bought them:
1st Knight Rider fans who wanted to convert one into KITT
2nd People who couldn't even afford a cheap Corvette C4
But times have changed and the Gen 3 Firebird T/A is slowly becoming a saught-after collectible. Prices are increasing considerably - especially for specimens in good condition with lots of options. The guys who were kids back in the eighties now have disposable money and so they buy those just for the heck of it.
So I'm going to pick up my "new" '87 T/A this coming Sunday! 😁
I agree with other comments here that the rear spoiler is a must. Let's not forget that it also features the third stoplight. I'm sure a thrrd/high-mounted brake-light was not mandatory in Switzerland back in '89 and so it's also not required now on this car. Try to find a provider of consolidated ground shipping.. By doing so you can cut the shipping fees by at least 70%.
And yes! Those Cherrybomb Glass-Packs definitely have to go! Either replace them with OE-style tailpipes or some actual aftermarket exhaust-kit.
Congratulations for your purchase! I'm looking forward for updates!
The third brake light was actually forbidden in Switzerland back in '89, so they had to disconnect it and black out the lens.
Congrats on the '87!
@@swisscarguy I'm not surprised at all... Same thing with sidemarkers, I guess... Back then you could've gotten fined for having an active third brake-light and just a few years later they became mandatory. Let's remember the good ol' days, when catalytic converters on US-Cars (1974 - 1985) had to be removed, so that they could drive on leaded fuel in Europe... Makes one think about how much common sense actually makes it into legislature...
And now - Super Pursuit Mode! 😎
I'm a bit speechless, you are a very brave man.
Not my cup of tea, especially the color scheme on this one, interesting project car 🏆
Nice car, too bad they didn't paint it thoroughly.. nice color.. I have a 1986 trans am, I've owned it since 1992.... I call it a fire chicken, but I like your screaming chicken 😂😅😂😅😂
can you do a cost of buying second hand low maintenance car like Toyota model as well
I am excited for your new car but it looks like the car was not an original trans am.
For keys, come to Turkey. Around 15 euros you are all set.
I like that car, it reminds me of trips I did to Detroit in the 90´s and a cousin of mine had one. It is a very cool car. Where is the Cadillac?
In the shop (since august)...
@@swisscarguy Ohhh it´s been a while, hope it comes out in good shape. I like that Caddy a lot.
Should be cheap to run compared to you VW Phaeton :)
Wouldn'y be so sure with that fuel consumption :D
@@rkan2 lol true
Which is more important? The moustache fitting the car or thr car fitting the moustache?
A question as old as humanity itself.
It's a PHEONIX not screaming chicken. Firebird is a PHEONIX from mythical times.
0 yo 100.......eventually 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
these cars were designed for the 1/4 mile .... they were NOT designed for anything else !! ...(try sitting in the back seat for 2 minutes)
MICHELTKKJROll
You have a firebird not a trans am.
Potato, potato as every Trans Am is a Firebird. But mine is indeed a Trans Am in the European export version. I have paper work to document it.
Lost me with that screaming chicken comment…swiss vibes I guess
