During my recent visit to Japan, I happened to stay in Nishishinjuku near the SHINJUKU Station. So I visited Box Camera, Five Stars Camera and Lemonsha. The used cameras and lenses in Box Camera made me salivate, however they are hard to browse and not labeled, the space is really tight, so checking them was really difficult and uncomfortable on a hot day. I was polite and greet them with konnichiwa but for some reason the two old gentleman in the shop weren’t very warm to me and kind of grumpy. I don’t speak Japanese but I did ask them if they have the lens I was looking for, no luck there unfortunately. I then ventured to Five Star Camera and the young staff was much friendlier and helpful. I got a Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4 7 elements for ¥16800, not as cheap as I was expecting but I am happy with the purchase. I went to Naniwa Kyoto and spotted another Super Takumar in very good condition, it was just labeled Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 for ¥10,000 with yellow glass. I am so glad that I asked to take a look as I thought it was just the exact same version which I have just bought but it turned out to be the early 8 element version, which is the one I which I wanted the most. On my last day back to Tokyo, I went to Lemonsha and checked out a Pentax Spotmatic, I spotted a SPF on the desk in very good condition and asked if it is for sale, the lady said yes but it is unchecked and no warranty. I took the chance and found it working perfectly when I got back, including the light meter. That comes with a Super Takumar 55mm f/1.8 which is also in great condition for ¥18000. Not exactly cheap but much better than buying from eBay and because there’s no shipping fee, all these purchases turned out to be way cheaper. Besides, I had a great time visiting these fantastic stores. Oh I also visited 2ndBase in Akihabara Tokyo, they have a few lenses I really wanted such as the Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4 8 elements and Auto Takumar Zebra 55mm f/1.8, but they weren’t in good condition so it was a little disappointing. It is however still a great shop and worth exploring.

Great video. My biggest mistake starting shooting with fujiilm was getting too many lenses and too many accessories. Of course it takes, to find out the right lens for yourself. Now I'm traveling with the house, 56mm, the 24mm and to batteries. And I still trying to figure out how to minimize even further.

I used an APS-C Fuji X-Pro2 with 16/23/56mm lenses as a substitute while I waited for Leica to produce a full-frame digital Leica that I could use with my 21/35/90mm Leica M-mount lenses. When Leica finally produced the M10, I purchased it. However, it was so defective that Leica gave me a full refund. Later, I purchased a second M10; but it too was defective. I abandoned my quest for a full-frame Leica because I was very unhappy with Leica, and I was very pleased with the performance of my durable and dependable X-Pro2.

My dedicated black and white cameras are film cameras like the Zeiss Super Iconta, Kiev60, Nikon F100 and Canon EOS 1n 😊 . I prefer back and white photos; mutch of my work is delivered in B/W. As main camera i use a Fuji 100S connected to a PC in studio; the B/W conversion is after the shoots; done on PC using DxO Silver Effects; a fantastic BW conversion tool.

The X-Pro series are the most "photographic" cameras Fuji ever made in digital era. In the age of hybrid cameras (i don't shoot video btw) the inclusion of a range finder and the analog controls are a spiritual relief for "purists" that don't have the money for a Leica M system. Even though i am using a Sony (i like their zoom lenses more), i thing that Fuji cameras are more inspiring. If they release an X Pro 4 i will possibly buy one! As for the megapixels, you are absolutely true. I have both a 24mp apsc and a 24mp FF. I have print many A3+ size photos on fine art paper and are looking perfectly sharp (sometimes the apsc photos are even sharper because of the higher pixel density).

While I'd love a dedicated BW camera to get rid of the Bayer Matrix, there is an advantage to shooting color. In post processing you can use channels to manipulate the colors, in effect, like using color filters on an old BW camera. Smooth skin tones with a Green filter . . . darken skies with a Red or Orange filter . . .
