    The 35 1.4 is the lens the keeps me shooting my Pro2 no matter what other systems occur... it is one of the best lenses, if not the best NiftyFifty, I have and will ever use. Absolutely stunning image quality with a subtle watercolor painting like look and a lot of character. Fantastic lens!

    I'm a HUGE fan of 50mm equivalent. It's my most used focal length, the one I've always had in my bag. I guess this is mostly because I started on an APS-C camera with the old Nikkor 35mm AI that my dad had bought some 40 years ago and that it was basically my only lens for the full first year of my photography journey.
    Anyway... Nowadays I feel like there is two focal lenght I could use and not need anything else : 28mm and 50mm (or thereabouts). I guess Fujifilm agrees that those two focal lengths are super important because that is the focal lengths they initially released with the X-Pro 1 in 2012, in the form of the 35mm f/1.4 and the 18mm f/2. I am also drawn to the 85mm range, and Fujifilm also released the 60mm f/2.4 as a 90mm macro lens equivalent alongside the other "normal" lenses. I guess this is no mistake.
    I never get to put my hands on the Fujifilm original prime lenses, and my photography pushed me outside of the Fujifilm system for most of what I do now (I'm keeping my X-T2 and my 35mm f/2 though), but if I had stayed in the system, I think I would definitely had put my hands on the first trio of Fujifilm prime lenses of 2012 at some point.
    From all accounts, those lenses are slow focusing, lack weather sealing and aren't as sharp as they could be. But from pretty much every piece of opinion I've seen on the internet today, the 18mm, 35mm and 60mm all have basically the absolute best rendering of any Fujifilm lens ever released (maybe short of the 90mm f/2, but that's another kind of beast). The 18mm is still on my watch list for the X-T2 even if I moved to Nikon Z and that I have a very good 28mm lens.
    I guess there is some credit for simple, sometimes "crude" optical fomulas like those. They produce more interesting rendering, they aren't clinical like the high element count lenses are today with corner to corner sharpness. The one reason I jumped to the Nikon Z system was for two very simple reasons : first was that I could adapt my F mount vintage and modern G lenses, which still have that beautiful character that a low element count lens can bring (especially that 85mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/1.8), and they also have on Z mount similar lens designs in the form of the 28mm f/2.8 and 40mm f/2, which both have a vintage-y look to their rendering thanks to -you guessd it- their low element count.
    In today's market, I really feel like most of not all (except maybe Leica) have completely gone the modern way, with clinical lenses lacking a certain amount of character. I'm really happy that Fujifilm made those masterpieces on a modern digital platform. The fact that even Fujifilm optical engineers (which are in my opinion more skilled than Sony's or Canon's looking at the dark magic they're pulling out with pretty much all their lenses) called internally the 35mm f/1.4 the "magic lens" should be enough to fully understand how those pieces of glass feel.

    • @Jorge-Perez
      @Jorge-Perez  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Always great to hear your thoughts! I 100% agree, that this lens is a magic lens, after owning every 35mm fuji lens (33mm included) I can wholeheartedly agree.
      I started with the X100 cameras, so the 23mm (35mm equivalent) was my favourite, and all I knew really.
      But after moving to the X-pro series, I fell in love with the 50mm focal length. Also, the city or country where you reside has a huge impact on the focal length you choose.
      23mm was perfect for me in the narrow alleys of Tokyo and Seoul, but when I returned to Canada, it felt too wide, everything was far apart, and everything was big here, so then the 50mm equivalent took its place as my favourite lens.
      I'll be returning to Japan this year, I'm curious to compare the 2 focal lengths and see how the 50mm feels in the cramped alleys of Tokyo.
      Thanks for watching and for taking the time to share a comment friend, as always, I really appreciate it! 🙌🏼✨

    For the X-pro3 you should give the Voigtlander Fuji lenses a try, fantastic character. Especially the 27mm f2 is great, makes it as portable as the X100 series. The X-pro3 also supports the electrical contacts so the frame lines in the OVF move upon focusing. Really awesome!

      @@Jorge-Perez I'm sure you will love them! I only have the 27mm f2 and I really enjoy the experience of shooting that lens on my x-pro3. I've recently visited Tokyo, where I bought the lens, and found it perfect for street shooting there. Manual focus was a breeze. Very nice rendering. Only downsides for me are the difficulty reaching the focus tab when shooting in portrait orientation and the coma at f2 when shooting city scapes with a lot of point light sources. Stopping down a bit reduces this sufficiently.

    That was the first lens I bought for my X-E1. I have since bought the f/2 version to use shooting bike racing and when the weather is not so good. But other than needing the WR and faster focus speed of the f/2 I will always use the f/1.4, it just as character.

    I had the 35mm f/2 Fujicron for a couple of years before buying the f/1.4 version. I was put off by the reviews complaining about the focus speed and audible sound of the AF motor. Neither have been a issue in real life. After one outing with the faster lens, all I could do was curse myself for not getting it sooner.
    One camera setting that Fujifilm allows that make this lens desirable is the hybrid shutter setting combining both mechanical and electrical shutter which kicks in after 1/8000th, allowing the use of f/1.4 even in bright outdoor shooting.
    I kept my f/2 lens for times that weather sealing would be needed, but the old f/1.4 lens is my choice 90% of the time that I need a normal lens.

    • @Jorge-Perez
      @Jorge-Perez  Před 4 měsíci

      Perfect example of how things sound on paper, vs in practice. The AF motor has never been an issue for me, even if I try to be discreet, the shutter will always be louder than any lens focusing mechanism.
      And like you, I owned the F2, I did find it helpful with older cameras like the X-pro1, where the AF speed is very slow, but I do prefer much more having the character of the 1.4 lens. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! I appreciate it, Cheers 🙌🏼

    I have the following two manual focus lenses that I could use with adapters on my Fuji X-Pro digital mirrorless:
    35mm f/1.4 Nikkor AIS F-mount
    35mm f/1.4 Zeiss Distagon ZM M-mount
    However, I am not a big fan of lenses with normal focal lengths. I prefer to use the slightly wide Fujinon 23mm f/1.4 on my APS-C X-Pro bodies.

      @Jorge-Perez  Před 4 měsíci

      I've heard about it, but looks a bit cheap, But I might give it a try, I think the focus through might be the most important thing with those budget lenses, how it feels and how degrees of precision you have. I have also hear really good things about the Voigtlander lenses.

    • @samtsuichannel
      @samtsuichannel Před 4 měsíci

      It is cheap, but the build quality is very good in my opinion, focus control is smooth and with nice damping, no problem with precision control at all. Aperture ring has click. The only minor problem I have is the marking of its depth of field scale which is weird. Image quality-wise it is quite good, I think it matches the Fuji 35mm f2 lens. I won't use its f1.4 aperture but f2 is totally usable, f8 is simply sharp. I hope this helps. Finally I would like to thank you for producing all these videos, I bought a XE1 literally because of your XE1 video, and I like it so much, even more than the XH2S I have. The XE1 and this ttartisan 35mm f1.4 lens is my daily carry camera, and I have shot a lot of photos I am pretty happy about.@@Jorge-Perez

      The Nokton 35mm on m-mount is a fantastic little lens. Adapts very well to the X mount system. The only draw back is the EVF may not give you the control you require. But if you’re zone focusing, it won’t be an issue. If you do buy the m-mount version, buy a helicoid adapter so you can use the lens in a macro capacity.

      @Jorge-Perez  Před 4 měsíci +1

      If we are talking solely about the X-pro1, then probably the fujicrons are better for AF, the X-Pro1 is not ideal for manual focusing, regardless of the lens brand or type, the peaking options are really terrible. However, it is possible to get used to it.
      I've been hearing a lot about the Voigtlander lenses, seems to be what Im looking for, a full manual experience with an electronic connection to the camera.
      I can't say for sure about the Voigtlander 35mm 1.4, but seems like their new flagship Fuji lens, the Nokton 35mm 0.9 does offer frame line compensation, electronic exif data and communication with the body. But pricey, have any of you guys used it? Curious to hear more about it...
