Too Many Notes - Mozart Moments Ep. 7 with Sara Davis Buechner
zhlédnutí 2,7KPřed 5 lety
saradavisbuechner.com There's a well known scene from the movie "Amadeus" where the composer Mozart is accused of writing too many notes. Of course, this causes a little bit of consternation and maybe a chuckle because we know that Mozart, of all the composers, is the one that seems never to write anything superfluous - just exactly what's needed. In this particular sonata in C major, K. 545, M...
Virtuosity According To Mozart: Mozart Moment Ep. 6 with Sara Davis Buechner
zhlédnutí 1,1KPřed 6 lety
saradavisbuechner.com I think a lot of people think that virtuosity on the piano means playing a lot of hard chords and notes really really fast while sweating a lot and looking really action packed about it. Was Wolfgang Mozart a virtuosic composer? I think so, but certainly on his own terms. His sense of virtuosity more often has to do with the expertise of his composition, how gets from one ...
Now Batting: Wolfgang DiMaggio | Mozart Moments with Sara Davis Buechner

saradavisbuechner.com Classical musicians often like to make a big distinction between the music they associate with and popular music (which they see as a somewhat "lesser" venture). But did Mozart ever write any pop tunes? I personally think he did. The Rondo Alla Turca "Turkish March" (from the end of Mozart's Sonata in A major k. 331) was written for the common man as much as one possibly c...

Embellishing Mozart - Episode 3 of Mozart Moments with Sara Davis Buechner

saradavisbuechner.com Variations are the spice of life. In this episode, pianist Sara Davis Buechner demonstrates how Mozart used the slow movement of his Sonata in C major, K. 545 to teach his students how to improvise. Improvisation is the art of adding embellishments, or extra notes, to repeated musical material. But how do you embellish something written so perfectly? Sara gives her best ef...

Picture Mozart in your mind and you probably come up with images of a prissy and proper young man, kind to his sister, father, and small animals, accompanied to the sounds of his dainty Sonata in C major, K. 545. Of course, the real Mozart had many more sides than that, and in the same key of C, he reveals a much darker aspect of his nature through his ominous Fantasie in C minor, K. 475/457. Y...
Mozart Moments with Sara Davis Buechner: Teaching Keys

According to pianist Sara Davis Buechner, the keys of the piano are to her ears, eyes...and stomach? - like the colors of crayons in a box. Mozart's Sonata in C major K. 545 was intended as a teaching piece for children, where his students were very likely expected to be able to transpose this deceptively simple sonata into the other 11 keys as an exercise. Sara will perform the complete cycle ...

Pianist Sara Davis Buechner discusses and performs Domenico Scarlatti's Sonata in F minor K. 69. This is one of 550 or more sonatas by Scarlatti. Mets fans of a certain age will recognize that the introductory portion of the music incorporates elements of Jane Jarvis's intro as well as the intro used in the WOR-TV opening sequence for telecasts. Of course, the song itself slyly samples "Sidewalks of New York" and "There's No Place Like Home." Ending with a bit of "Rhapsody in Blue" was a nice touch.

    • @ProfDrislane
      @ProfDrislane Před rokem

      The beginning is the Allemande from Bach's 4th French Suite. This then segues into the Courante from K.399 by Mozart. It's actually Handel keyboard suite movements that Mozart is more likely emulating in K.399, as it seems Mozart was only familiar with Bach's preludes and fugues (WTC) and Art of Fugue (see Mozart's arrangements of selected fugues for strings!). We remember too that Mozart arranged the ENTIRE Messiah with new orchestration. Finally, the influence of Fux in Mozart's compositions and teaching cannot be ignored. It is Beethoven who shows much more of Bach's influence: see the Diabelli Variations and especially Op.109 (with it's homage to the Goldberg Variations)..
