    So regarding nutrients: Soil testing and top dressing to keep a baseline longterm and then fine tuning with sap testing and foliars in the short term. The Organics alive nutrients to continuously add a bit of nutrients that are consumed? Can one also use small amounts of top dressings continuously according to what was consumed in the previous cycles? Thanks for the info!

    • @RedbudSoilCompany

      I woukd only top dress based off of a soil test. If you wanted to break up the application over a couple of times that would be fine. However top dressing every week is just not necessary.

    how would you answer the buildasoil series which I believe has had soil testing done on one bed at least twice and has run through the results, which have been balanced and not shown excess or deficiency despite using blends. not being combative, just posing a live example from a prominent supplier to continue the conversation. one counter argument straight off the bat is that they are on season four, so not loads of runs deep yet.

    • @RedbudSoilCompany
      @RedbudSoilCompany Před rokem

      Every company or person that balances nutrients has their own numbers that they "believe" represent a balanced soil. There is no universal number. We do hundreds of tests constantly, and very rarely is a soil balanced at any point after the first month. We do see it occasionally, but not very often. I would take it a step further and say you need to look at sap testing because that is the real story of what the plant is taking up. Using a premade top dress is kind of an out dated way of doing things, and is still only pushed because it generates sales.

      Big difference is a and l uses a mild acid to extract. Logan labs test was created for soil with clay in it. Soiless media doesn't have clay in it, so we choose to use a lab like a and l because their test is specifically used for soiless media. The results will be different, and honestly if what you are doing is working, stick with it.

Not sure if I got a bad batch or old stock, or idk what but it was not what I would consider even in the top 3 of biological products I have in my current arsenal, much less what else I can find online. I am planning to have another look from deeper in the bag to see if it was just a dried out portion of the compost but I made three slides that first day when I received it because I was a bit in disbelief of how little life there was. I’ve looked at a lot of soil, a lot of compost, a lot of ferments… shit I’ve looked at anything I can put on a slide that might have a place in a soil system and I’m telling you, besides a little bit of bacterial action and some sparse spores here and there, it was just a vast amount of nothing.
