Re the master cylinder assembly: In the hole you pushed grease for the pedal bushings , what happened to the lock key that slips in before the plug to keep the pedals in position?
Enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing.
parker hannifin compression fittings are a good alternative to flared
I have a 40 Chevy sedan I'm making into a hot rod. I have a complete running 216 and transmission to offer someone for free. Also the differential and springs, and the front frame and suspension from the firewall forward, and 5 original wheels. I don't want to see them go to the scrapper! Located near Crystal River, Florida. Any suggestions on what to do with them?
I'm glad you finally got to sorting the old iron out! If anyone can get it resurrected, it's you, sir!
On the old cars and trucks with synchros, if the synchro rings go down you lose that gear.
Remove 3 bolts from flex plate to torque converter 1st before seperating engine from transaxle
Also dislodge torqueconverter from crankshaft
Does that engine rotate?
Wow! To actually see the chassis you mentioned! How cool is this! What a great rescue, I'm glad that powertrain is no longer forgotten, I kinda feel like my inquiry sorta helped give it hope for a new life! Well that's my story! Loved seeing this video, thanks for sharing it with us! And man how I wish I lived next door (farm) to you, with all your equipment and old cars, I'd be hanging out being a pest! 😂 God bless my friend!
lol, you wouldn't bother me a bit!
I could use the air cleaner
Thanks!
Heard Great Grandpas 52 Deluxe run last week for the first time. Last ran in 72. Love the stovebolt videos.
You are too kind! thanks so much. That goes right back into these projects.
Thank you for another entertaining video. I enjoyed hearing the birds singing - your singing - not so much.
lol, come on now!
Good morning Mr jayhawker I'm still working on my 48 chevy fleetmaster gonna graft a new piece of frame to replace the rusted piece just wanna say how important your videos are 41 thru 54 chevy cars underneath are basically the same car you help alot of us watch what we can do even if we've done it 100 times or not so thank you and God bless keep wrenching.....George the old chevyoligist
set it on blocks . I don't like those flimsy straps holding it up. If one breaks it will fall sideways.
Hello from Australia. Thanks for your videos on these stovebolts, you have helped me so much. I'm restoring a 1947 Fleetmaster Coup Utility(only ever available in Australia and New Zealand) and am just about to put a rebuilt 235 in it to replace the old 216 engine. Keep up the great work, love watching your personable style and clear instructions.
Excellent work, Info. You should have also clamped down the work securely, you always need some kind of lube when performing this operation.
Had one. Pulled the 216 and put in 261 and later transmission with an OD. Drove it 78,000 trouble free miles. Did convert the Knee action front shocks to tube type.
enjoyed it
I live in Texas, just purchased a 1948 Cadillac series 62 I think. Original motor and all. Flat head 5.7 V8. I’m so happy I found your video. I used to travel all the time to Lawrence as soon as I saw your name I knew 😂
Never have a module go out. I like the HEI because the coils are 40,000 volts vs 20,000 for the points. The points start to deteriorate right from the get go.
After getting left stranded on the side of the road twice in as many years due to a failed HEI ignition module, I switched back to my trusty Accel dual point distributor. Didn't appreciate my mint condition '66 Chevelle SS getting towed.
Wow! Not only did you plan out the restore, but you also had to plan out the actual documentation of the restore! It was really well edited. The shots were set up well, and I know some of the shots you only had one shot at getting right the first time. The fast forwarding was just right so you could keep up with what you were doing while keeping the video within a time range that people wouldn't shy away from starting a video that is too long! I caught myself thinking, yeah, but what is that that he's soaking the parts in, which you later included the chemical in the shot! Well planned and executed! I wonder how long it really took you to do all of that?! I know it was a lot more than two 25 minute sessions! 🙂
How do you adjust the octane selector. I loosened the bolt and wasn’t able to get it to move. Is there something I’m missing or is it just stuck a bit.
I would say that most likely your distributor is just stuck. Try turning it with a pliers or gently tapping around on it with a soft mallet.
Can you paint on top of it?
From CRC's data sheet: CRC Zinc It can act as a finish coat on clean iron, steel and their welds. Top-coating CRC Zinc It with another product of CRC’s Zinc coating range provides extra protection and a selection of bright metallic or coloured gloss finishes - the ultimate choice for your application. If other colours are required, CRC Zinc It can be top-coated with most standard decorative paint systems for metals
Thank you Jay hawker! I am getting ready to tackle my belly acquired Rochester 4me.Your detailed video has given me the confidence I need To go for it. God Bless you too Pete
Just get it so it runs n stops...u will make money..n .someone happy!
Forgot how many parts were in them they make a holley look like a mousetrap
Got the same symptoms… was driving off the interstate exit and the car stalls loses all power. Put in park. Car starts fine and can reverse and go in neutral. Upon putting in drive and applying gas the car lurches forward and immediately shuts down. AAMCO says I have a p129E code but they want to tear apart the transmission and rebuild it…
Exelente
what vibration would cause the glass to shatter.......
You said it....real life in the trenches! I think your doing things like I would as a owner and lover of cars. Great job, nice car
George Jones- hotter than a $2 pistol
This is a true story about a cold start and a 6 volt system......in 1957, I was in Champagne Illinois visiting some friends...my friends father was a staff doctor at the University of Illinois..he had a brand new 1957 Chrysler, his wife had a 1957 Plymouth, both cars were In a closed garage, and my friend had a 1954 Cadillac, parked in the driveway. My car was a 1940 Chevrolet 2 door sedan with a 52 Chevrolet 235 engine, parked on the curb out in front of the house. It was early January and a cold front came through during the night and dropped the temperature below zero ...the doctor's Chrysler, his wife's Plymouth and my friends Cadillac wouldn't start...so his dad came to me and asked if he could use my Chevrolet to go to work, so when he got in it, it started right up(It was an Arizona car)...6 volt system. So when he came home that afternoon , my car had a full tank of gas...true story.
Great step by step video, after all those drum brake jobs I did in my youth, I still learned a few new tricks today, thank you!
Thanks for another good one. Working on brakes isn't all that bad but it sure gets my dander up at times. When done, have a lay in the hammock under a shade tree with a cold glass of lemon ice tea. Works for me after mowing the back 40 on a hot day. Stay cool!
Difference between a V8 and a Buick V6 is more like 250lbs, not 50. Even the 4.3L V6 from Chevy has a weight difference of over 100 lbs between it and a V8. Nonetheless, the disc brakes will be just fine as they are. If you worry about the weight then get higher-graded disc pads and they will be just fine. Drums on the back are still just fine as they come and were designed and sized for the minimum requirements of a fully-loaded vehicle. Really good job on the brakes...you're hired heheh :)
I'm sure you're right about the Buick 3.8 which was an option in these cars, but this one is the old school Chevy 3.8 which was also an option. It is basically a smaller displacement version of the small block and very much the same as the 4.3. I can see 100 lbs difference, maybe, but no more. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
First thing I ever did on my ride was brakes. I was GREEN my uncle walked me through it just as you have here for someone.
What a difference a lift makes! I generally prefer working on older cars but I have to admit that, while drums stop just fine, I’d sure rather work on disks.
So ,drums are composite drums!
Looks great and makes a great display piece. Well done!
more!

Would you ever sell the 48 Chevy?
So if you want the filler in the tail light LSFab has a kit for that.
Shouldn’t u have torqued the bolts to avoid cracking the manifold.?
