Thank you for taking the time to check over my carburetor again. I posted a short video on my channel of the 37 and i’m excited that you were able to find the issue.

I had the same issue with a Carter WO on my old Willys Jeep. After MUCH research and no-no words, I found out the fuel pump I had replaced put out 2-3x the fuel pressure it was supposed to. I put a regulator on it and it works perfectly.
    Ohh, and hello from Emporia!

To this I would add that simple honesty is great for marketing. And it's a rare thing. All the best to you J

That's kind of wild... I have NEVER seen a leaking float, EVER... And I have worked on outboard motors from the 40's and up (along with the usual cars, trucks and motorcycles) and I'm turning 60 this year... Just goes to show you though, anything can happen (when you least expect it)... 😉😉😉

About 3 toi 3.5 psi is all they are rated for. That float showed a couple of bubbles that you missed seeing. One came from the repaired area. The other came from the seam.

Thanks for another educational video. As you were saying, if the float has a hole you should be seeing bubbles. Conclusion: no bubbly ... no leaky. Also, good reminder that when things look good, appear to be in good order, assembled correctly, etc., if an issue remains you got to put on the ole thinking cap & dig a little deeper into the suspected components. I believe most people would not have discovered the float issue. BRAVO!!! By the way, since we're talking Car(bure)ter ... Question: The manual reads that the cover screw hole should be filled with a graphite grease to lubricate the countershaft that operates the accelerating pump. Do you have a suggestion of what to use? Do you use anything? I have had some folks tell me to just add some kind of machine oil. I had a Carter rebuilt a few years ago through Chevs of the 40s. When I removed the screw it was bone dry. Thanks again for your time & efforts. Much appreciated.

A graphite grease isn't easily found but a tube of dry graphite lube can be found at any Ace Hardware.

You should test a float in very hot water.

Great job Sir Jayhawker! I rebuilt one and it leaks around the throttle shaft while the engine is running. Oh well.

You're probably fine with it, if it works it works! But if you're interested, the same bushings that you can buy to repair a quadrajet throttle shaft work perfect for a W-1.

I didn't realize you did that kinda work for people you communicate with on you tube. I tried to rebuild a carter w1 from 1949 but it just isn't right. I actually watched your video on the rebuild, i not that good with intricate parts like that. How much would you charge for the rebuild and shipping? Your work I think is just excellent.
