Stellar Blade Is Shallow And Deceptive | Review
Stellar Blade Is Shallow And Deceptive | Review. I'll admit I bought into this game's marketing hook line and sinker. Like everyone else I was interested and excited to see a new game come out with bold sexual appeal, graphic violence, and interesting combat. I am a hardcore Team Ninja fan and I miss the 2000s era action game of Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, and Ninja Gaiden like everyone else. Stellar Blade is definitely teased and aimed at this audience with its marketing and demo.
Because there is a law that every game that is made these days needs to be influenced by Dark Souls, I wasn't naive enough to think that Stellar Blade would be pure uncut character action. I knew from playing the demo that it would have that slower more 1 versus 1 feel and pace like the souls series and I was open minded to this possibility. I do enjoy souls games especially Elden Ring.
Day 1 I bought Stellar Blade and starting playing and after a few hours it became very clear to me that I had been played by this game -- rather than the other way around. Everyone is so wrapped up around the controversy of this game's visuals and the various culture wars that somehow have attached themselves to it that sadly no one has actually bothered to review the game itself. On top of that the people who do review games -- like game journalists -- are the exact market this game is targeted towards. What Stellar Blade does is takes the skin of a real action game and then guts out everything that is inside of what makes a game good. The section immediately after the demo ends is literally a swimming section ha. Honestly I do think Stellar Blade is the case of a small and limited action with a few interesting (but unfinished) boss fights that then got mixed in with a giant sludge of empty gamification and then passed on as a full release. And none of it is accidental. Let's not forget that at that core Shift Up are Gacha games makers, not classic arcade devs like the Devil May Cry and Bayonetta teams. They are more than comfortable treating game design as casino inspired mental manipulation rather than as an art form.
I won't spoil all my thoughts about the game in the vid description but I think after the initial hype wave and culture war boost this game has received has moved on (which it always does, like Bayonetta 3) players will calm down and see that Stellar Blade is more of a brilliant act of marketing than it is game design.

Esports Will DESTROY Fighting Games | Dead Or Alive 4 Review. There is a lot of talk right now about how much the fighting game genre is "thriving" because if you look at peak metrics like Evo tournament entrants and sponsorship prize money, things have never been better, right? But the metric that no one seems to want to look at is the thinning out of the fighting game genre as a whole. Sure T...

I think it's fun junk food. There are a lot of mindless games, like Dynasty Warriors and most mobile games, which exist as a way to turn off your brain and hit buttons and see things happen. They don't demand a whole lot from you, and I think it's ok. You go through the motions and are predictably rewarded, which often isn't the case in daily life.

Okay, I don’t fully disagree with your video. After playing the game myself, I did have fun. Yes, there are a few puzzles, yes there’s a swimming sequence here and there, but I felt like the game made up for it. Each area you go to has about 2-3 bosses, maybe extra if you do side quests, but I’m doing that currently in new game+ Gameplay isn’t super deep, but it is fun, and recognising a boss move and perfectly dodging it feels really satisfying. I never found an ‘empty corridor’ unless it was one leading to a boss, or a brief section to load in the next part of the map (space elevator really isn’t that long) Does the game have flaws? Yes. Is the game fun to watch? No. However, is it fun to play? I’d say yes. I for example could not watch someone play any Arkham game, as much as I love that series, watching it would be so repetitive. Finally, I don’t think the game was ever falsely advertised. It’s no where near perfect, but it’s still a good time. If your really unsure getting this game, then wait for a discount :) I like videos like this as it creates a solid point for discussion… we all have different tastes and opinions and I love that!

What grind my gears is games are seen as interactive movies. People talk about the gameplay for 2 minutes and they talk about the story, characters, graphics, music etc for 20. Video games are games, not videos. I am tired of the dumbing down and the actionisation of games. I am glad dragon quest still sells well and i am glad baldurs gate 3 did so well. It shows that there is a market and i hope square enyx will stop the madness.

This is how I feel now. I’ve begun the arduous task of digitizing nearly 4000 game discs. I digitized my entire music library back in 2011, all 10,000 CDs, and saw no issue with that. For some reason I had to come to terms on digitizing and selling the bulk of my games, keeping those that have significant emotional connection or are very expensive to get physically. For the CDs that won’t run from a digital image, I use the No-CD patches, similar to what steam and GOG do. In the end, it’s all just bits and bytes.

This is on sale right now for $9.99. I went ahead and picked it up. The lag isn’t an issue for me but we’re talking someone who doesn’t really mind Redream that much so I’m not terribly sensitive unless it’s very blatant. I don’t love the visual options. I’d hoped it was actually rendering at 1080p but it seems it’s more of a “high res w/ effect filter” with no resolution options available sadly so filter off on a CRT is still is the best way to play this version technically which is a bit unfortunate for such a recent port. edit: “high res” isn’t so bad on an hd screen, it’s reasonably crisp

I believe that easy modes are good for introducing children and new audiences to games, but they should be introduced in such a way as to build those skills needed to progress to the intended difficulty. For example, the final level on "Easy" mode should lead organically to the first level on "normal" etc. If easy is the only mode that people play, then they might as well just watch a youtube playthrough and save themselves $50.

Dead or Alive is possibly the best fighting game franchise in my opinion, while street fighter, tekken or even soul calibur matches look like turn based fights, Dead or Alive frenetic style and hold system give it a swift, more realistic feel, at any moment the tables can be turned and they are usually a stylistic flash, just beautiful to watch, this apart from the aesthetics and beauty centered design of the games that made each character and stage just jawdropping, implementing stuff that were sheldom seen before or seen done in such high quality in their time like snow physics, reflective water and surfaces and so on, paired with the artistic choices of the character designs and the settings of many stages, specially those based in Japan and China, like the Koku An, Ninja Hideout, Sacred Miyama, Kyoto in bloom, Azuchi or Aerial Gardens to name a few, for some reason DOA seemed to peak at the third entry, at the time it looked like the franchise could become one of the most popular in the fighters area, yet despite 4 being incredible, it began a sort of slow decline. I think the franchise peaked, in terms of perfecting the formula, around DOA4 and DOA Dimensions but during the middle of the 7th gen era with the departure of Itagaki, Team Ninja seemed to think both DOA and Ninja Gaiden were in need of an overhaul and while i do not think the definitive versions of DOA5 and Ninja Gaiden 3 are bad at all, i do think they seem a little confused and self conscious, as if they wanted to keep the franchises as they were but didn't at the same time, subsequently stumbling in trying to change something without knowing what exactly, then with DOA6 this confusion and self consciousness became all the more notable, i do not think the game is bad either but it does not really feel much like the old DOA, neither the stages, the characters, the visuals in general, the gameplay being somewhat familiar yet somehow alien also, it does not have the trademark high quality of the past games that even the Last Round iteration of 5 has, it just looks completely off in the Dead or Alive cathegory. I do hope Team Ninja learns something from Capcom and stops fooling around and trying to appeal to as many as possible, DOA has a marked identity of the aforementioned beauty centered design and pushing graphics in order to fullfil that, yet without getting into the gritty hyper-realistic, having more of an artistic perspective, a swift fighting system, a marked, handcrafted quality and so on and that is fine, it was, to me, what made it stick while i eventually stopped playing most other fighters, if despite all these virtues, other people still prefer Tekken or SF then that is what variety's for, that's out of the DOA boundaries and what Team Ninja can do without making it something other than what it is and those of us who love DOA will never want the franchise to become like any of the others.
