North, you might enjoy both Chaos Draft and Cube as MTG formats. Normal Draft typically uses one set of Magic cards to draft from, but Chaos Draft is what it says on the label: random sets from any point in Magic’s history thrown together in a mishmash for an absolutely insane draft experience. Cube is somewhat similar, but people often theme a Cube in some way. Maybe it’s all Innistrad sets so people can draft Zombies, Vampires, and Werewolves. Maybe all sets from a particular Plane like Theros or Zendikar, or two-color Guild drafting from Ravnica. I love Chaos for the silly breadth of card variety and the low power that necessitates, but Cube is like creating a themed draft experience and that scratches a fun itch in my skull meat.

As someone who plays both MTG and 40K, the first story is a good highlight of the difference between the two in terms of their problem players. Most of my experiences with problem MTG players have simply been due to petty or antagonistic personalities causing vast overreactions and people getting their feelings hurt over nothing. I’ve yet to experience anything similar in 40K beyond simple tilting due to bad luck, which is usually sorted out in no time.

Hobby nightmare 1, I would have just forfeited every game I had with him so he wouldn't be able to play with his $25 card. Had a similar oen to that where the guy was going around wishing people a bad game because the rules didn't say he couldn't.

That first hobby nightmare sounded like the author was as much the nightmare as the "Jensen." Childish and so very modern, current day, "I'm taking my ball and going home." The first hobby nightmare I have ever heard like that. That was odd. Whatever, the rest was solid. That sort of safety tools BS is why I can't find a group to play anymore. I used to love white Wolf games. Can you imagine vampire or werewolf or wraith with that kind of soft child who needs a "safe space" from a world of darkness or grim dark world?

One thing I've always wanted to ask EmanG is if he uses ripped game assets as the basis for his work. I'm a 3D designer myself, and I've seen some of his models and they seem a bit fishy to me, very thin parts, and other things that don't look like they'd print nor that they've been designed with printing in mind. It wouldn't surprise me if he'd been ripping stuff out of Total War: Warhammer and trying to make it manifold/printable.

Spunk Bubbles says in one moment that he's willing to work on a personality defect... but then says he's worried about getting into painting because of poor painting skills. My dude, painting is a skill you can improve and practice with. If you don't mind self-improvement in one area, get adventurous and try to learn to paint properly. There aren't really bad painters, just bad methods and lack of practice.

Lost my cool with a homeless guy in a manner similar to how you're describing. Here in Cardiff we have a lot of panhandlers. Was taking my girlfriend out on a date night and we were walking down the city centre - perfectly normal for folks to ask you for change "Sorry, not got any" is usually enough. This one guy was mega pushy and started following us repeatedly badgering - I just turned around and shouted "GET LOST MATE" and he got proper aggressive over it, fortunately nothing physical. But like you, I got home and I thought "what the hell was I thinking?" These guys are smackheads, for all you know they could shiv you for getting lairy at them.

I think part of the reason games aren't played in GW stores is because there's nothing more off-putting to newblood than "That Fucking Guy." They may only be 10% of less of the playerbase, but the stinking, BO-ridden, greasy "umm ackshually" sort is like an active repellant.

I surprisingly like the first guys idea about how to bring about female space marines.

They arent toxic they're just annoying as hell. All they do is compare every genre of sci-fi to their own. Theyre kinda like batman and goku fans. Theres also alot of conservatives in the 40k fanbase. It however is a very nice community, I just wish they'd shut up about the universe. But i actually came to this video to dissagree with them being toxic. If you wanna meet toxic? You got hazbin hotel, gravity falls, my little pony. Thats toxic. 40k just has toxic people in it.

If blackcoats ever came out as a buyable game id be very interested in getting a copy. The breakdown of the world you did before the gameplay sounded fascinating, and though all of my RPG friends are scattered around the world now, and many dont play anymore, I'd love to just read about Bkackcoats as it sounded like a great work of worldbuilding i LOVE the idea of the umbral reach! I would love to write something for that!

I don't want to frame the whole game (or opponent) as a hobby nightmare, but it was def a wtf moment. My very first game of 40k, my very 1st turn of being shot at was an infantry blob w/ command squad by a heldrake. Dude flew up, and even though I should have been outside of his firing arc, torrent rules at the time (6th/7th ed) let him place the flame template anywhere 12 inches away from the model, so I got shot. Whatever I think, I got dudes to expend. Prob was onenof this hits landed on my warlord/commander. Failed my lookout sir, invul, FnP, and instant death at the time for being half the T of the attack reduced him to 0 W. Meanwhile, he had abaddon buried in a cultist blob with cultists tanking lookout sirs on a 2+/4++ It basically took 3-4 turns of baneblade focusing to kill 20-30 cultists+ Abby. The dude was def a bit of a "that guy" in terms of play, but he wasn't a dick. He showed me rules in questions, let me mulligan mistakes, etc. He taught me some important lessons about the way people can cheese certain rules in a more competitive scene.
