I had a lore-friendly unpainted space marine force once. they were the extremely grey knights.
I was at a tournament, and a player accidentally knocked an eldar harlequin off the table next to me. Not realising I went to walk away to get a drink only to step on the model, obliterating it.
Although it was not my fault it was knocked off the table I felt guilt for stepping on it, so gave him some cash for a replacement. No amount of glue would have fixed it.
It's just the right thing to do
That is just what retail management is like. The corporate types are genuinely evil and the main reason that working for most companies is a pain.
Listening about jenson is like watching part 2 of a film, only to really enjoy it, then find it ends at a climax, and having to wait a year for pt3
It's The Empire Strikes Back of hobby nightmares 😂
Back in the day of VHS and Blockbuster I rented Pulp Fiction and someone forgot to be kind rewind, so I watched the ending first. It was a weird trip yo.
we really need to have the part 3!!!!
I was sooooo looking forward to hearing the fall of jensen.
@@lenoobpwner I've only ever dealt with one player as toxic as jenson, blatantly cheating and refusing to accept when they lose then being belligerent.
Fortunately he wisened up before a ban came into effect, and is now a more enjoyable player to face across the table
@@matthewtucker1578 yeah, but man jensen is one true number! We need the final part!!! SOOO BAD!!!
We've had a recent Jansen in my local gaming scene. He pulled the same hijinks except his army was knights but like the marines, half assembled and he bounced back and forth playing either imperial or chaos depending what was more powerful. Might make a hobby nightmare out of that.
The neckbeard gambit "I have mental issues therefore I'm allowed to be the worst kind of twat"
Its the IRL variant of 'it's what my character would do' and I hate it.
We reserve the right to refuse to play with someone else if I’m picking up your too inept to play fairly and make it an enjoyable experience I’ll tell em kick fuqqin rocks
Agreed but the dismissal of mental illness is pretty disgusting. It's not something simple to deal with. Great you've never had to deal with it, great your friends got past it. But fuck you twice for saying it's simple to deal with
Obviously not >you< the comment in replying to just a good comment to reply too
Yes, it's time to become a Warhammer 40K hobby snob!
[ *Record scratch, monocle drop* ]
'I say ol' boy, am I to believe that that is a lego glued to a coaster representing your artillery? HARRUMPH!'
I think every gaming shop in every city or country does have a dropsite massacre situation at one point
Jensen sounds like SCP with that level of open source fan fiction.
Not an eletist army should be built 100%, proxies clearly identified and similar. I’m not worried about paint job or based because they could be working on that as they go, but the army should be 100% built in proxies clearly identified and similar to what represents.
Please make a Jensen play list!
Jenson sounds like the sort of guy who enjoys the hobby but either thinks it’s funny or just doesn’t want to put the effort in to have an actual army. And will always get pissy when called out
Model assembly even for the smaller armies takes a significant time investment, so its fair for someone to expect their opponent to meet that standard by at the very least have fresh models fully assembled. There would be circumstances for exceptions sure, but if I ever played with unpainted models I'd make sure they'd at least had a basecoat before I used them again.
As someone whose relatively new to the hobby I have newfound respect for people who've fully painted their models after applying just the trim to 30 World Eater Berserkers by hand.
First time here. I always hear people in videos asking for likes because I clearly understand the dynamic of how impactful that is to the channel - especially those growing and finding their footing - and that simply it takes zero effort from the user whatsoever. I don’t know how yo describe but listening to you and your cheeky accent I felt compelled. COMPELLED to not only hit the like button but subscribe as well. Great content. Great banter. Great video.
35:30 I think a reason that allows Gw to not need to use the stores as advertisements anymore, is that Warhammer now uses video games, Henry Cavill, internet memes for the advertising
I haven't played in like 10+ years BUT I am almost certain from the description of the characters involved, I know who this is.
Any time I hear stories of good gw managers essentially harassed to the point they could cause someone to have a panic attack feels criminal. But it's done in a way that's not actionable for a law suit which is shitty.
When I wanted to be able to swap out the load out for the first army I ever built (Grey Knights), you know what I did?
I magnetized the arms. I set it up so that I could pull the arms off and swap them out for arms holding different weapons using really small neodymium magnets.
Nowadays, I just buy two sets and build both because it’s easier-except for stuff like imperial knights since it’s relatively easy to add large, strong magnets to key joints.
I also started in 7th, about a month before 8th launched. Haven’t been active since the plague that shall not be named happened, but I still buy and build the models for fun.
man, i'm getting flashbacks to my local store 🤣on the subject of proxies - the worst i've ever done is stenciled on the base "this is a bolt gun"/"this is missle launcher" while waiting on a bits shipment (also how i keep track of who gets what while building)
As someone who has practically no hobby time due to family commitments. I would still expect myself to have all mu models painted and base coated, and if it's an army with a paint scheme at least the main colour (shaded and drybrushed) done.
It's the least that should be done not break the Immersion too much.
I mean, I'd be allright with someone using only a sprayed base layer on the whole model, some nuln oil and a really quick and messy dry brushing, just roughly paint the weapons with any metal color and done. You can spend a saturday afternoon for a whole detachment with that...
Personally for me as long as the minis are fully built and primed I don’t mind
Gw shops sound like theyre run as dictatorlike as gamestop.
Was having a conversation with my dad, he’s got a Space Wolves army I’ve got my moms Blood Angels I’ve had since I was about 7
He recently was telling me how they’re(himself and the guys at the game shop) not really into 40k anymore because of their lack in attention toward the customer base or not pushing out anything new correctly.
He holds onto his army but his buddy just sold all of his GW stuff for really cheap.
I told them that I like the Spacemarine, I like what they are, the lore, the book. If GW Isn’t acting right or whatever the case I’d still have my army and keep them nice and presentable. I’ve gotten into 3D printing have been doing that for almost 8 years now and so I occasionally get a hold of 40k models that I can make up if I want. I do buy their stuff every once in a while but it’s usually just something along the lines of I bought it officially once now I can make as many as I want saving some moneys. Ultimately I am a huge fan, but I don’t think if they’re to sour then I’ll probably ever sell off or trash my 40k stuff. It’s just something I’ve known for a long time and really enjoy painting up or building terrain for them.
I wouldn't hobby nearly as much if I didn't have this channel. It's good time to process my internal monologue and the stories show me that I'm headed down the right path in my local scene. Man, are these nightmares crazy sometimes!
What's crazy to me is that I never had the perception of GW. I got into 40k back in 2009/2010. Eventually my brother put it down so I had no one to play with like a year later. Fast forward to June 2024 me and my wife both want to get into 40k, but I threw away the armies I had. I looked into buying back in and through research I'm hearing all this scummy stuff about GW and it's blowing my mind cuz it's so different from what I remember. Makes me sad
i can tolerate unpainted minis but they have to be built at least >.< if you dump a bunch of random unfinished pieces on the board I'll say something but that's about it, it can take a lot of time an energy to actually get an army painted and not everybody has that so if they wanna just glue some guys together and do a game here and there when they can find time I'm not gunna hate on them for that but a "built" army shows they are at least somewhat trying >.
I'm not particularly annoyed either way if your army is painted or not because personally i hate the act of painting even though i like the result, but at least have what you're fielding be fully assembled
when it comes to staff horror stories, it is becoming my increasingly clear that there are a lot of higher ups and trainers that treat it like a big boys club and are bullies and awful to people.
Like they are the worst people to be in middle management
Maybe a little elitist. I got into the hobby in the late nineties and I've never fielded a fully (or even mostly) painted army. It's just never been a priority for me. My old gaming group never required it so I never got around to it.
If that guy had run into a random pickup game with a fun guy that played a fair and enjoyable game we'd never have heard from him.
None of these Hobby Nightmare stories ever go
"I played a fantastic game against an interesting dude BUT his army was unpainted."
I think the Jensen decision is a correct one ☝️
This is one of the best and funniest episodes yet with great advice
I dont understand, i wouldn't care if they are unpainted, only that they play normally and not stupidly
Unfinished in terms of building minis is unacceptable. Unpainted is a bit more understandable especially if it’s just one or two minis you want to play with but haven’t gotten the paint for yet. That being said you should paint ur minis if you want to play with them with everyone even if they are painted badly.
I’d make an exception if I was told in advance lol. Sometimes I wanna try out weapons before flying stuff down. But I also make sure to keep a post it attached to a base with the squad loadout
I mean some of my models aren’t painted but I do try to at least prime my models
I can forgive the odd unpainted half modelled mini if it's a new mini they are trying out before they settle on weapon choice and wargear and details but if its a game at a game store I would expect at least the basic standard of 3 colours, at home with mates? Meh... I've used a beanie hat as a chaos defiler before now, nothing hurts more than when a Christmas tree fairy proxying a titan squashes half your army away with a swish splat from a candy cane ✌️😂
Not elitism , more maintaining and enforcing basic hobby standards imo
Make Gatekeeping great again
“Two-foot flamers”
9th Edition Sisters had an Order Minoris trait bestowing +6” to flamer weapons range. 18” flamers was hilarious but that is the farthest I have ever seen.
Awesome video, I love your contents!
My friend used to play with chsm custom dice that has chaos star with as many arms what number that was.... There was literally no chance on telling what he's rolling from the other side of the table outside of ones
liked! Hope all goes well north!
At least a completely assembled army
Whats the problem with nurgle dice?
4:55 you are that guy
Im just getting into the hobby and always afraid to run into a Jenson... what i dont like is hes a Salamander player and doesnt have his space marines painted?? Thats heresy
Make a video called, "The nightmare: Jensen."
5:28 yes
Would it be bad if i did my first game with a 28mm scale imperator titan?
Holy shit. Dork overload
Last story, I would take the new job. It sounds like a once in a life time opportunity you mite be full of “what ifs” in the future
Going to be honest, I've accidentally broken my opponent’s models before. I always apologize and offer to fix it, or offer glue.
I also always have a bottle of glue in my case, because I break my own all the time, too.
dude just the fact that jensen didnt apologize its just ludicrous for me. I would feel SOOOO bad.
I know the price of our hobby, so I NEVER ever touch my opponents units and even refrain from asking to see their models.
I have ALL the genesteeler dice. Too bad I dont have someone to use them on
Seem vashdor is not going to be the next CG after all, it Jensen🤣
I need Jensen Part 3! 😂
I can tell you, North, that you're not being elitist at all. It's one thing if your army isn't finished with painting or most just have a basecoat. Just as long as everything is glued together and I can tell what it is. Personally, I've been collecting 40k for a year or two, but I don't want to play until I know everything is painted, detailed, shaded, and flocked. Everyone has their own painting preferences and speed of completion. However I draw the line if half of the army isn't even assembled
I do not even want to play OPR Age of Fantasy quests without painted models for the enemies. Thats not elitism, its just part of our hobby to have cool battlefields, those are not possible littering the table with little grey plastic/resin pieces.
LEROY JENSON !!!
I think primed and about to be painted models is fine, but bare plastic and unbuipt models, no I won't play with that either.
Wait until you have a legion of yugioh legion in your basement store... And ac is broken....
Is he sure he was playing salamanders 😂😂
Im disappointed in CZcamsrs....i guess tho if all videos got 20000% more likes it would all even out, but lets as hobby bros like a video here and there, in This channel we cam get that like percentage higher than ....10% of the view count. This channel aved my life for a while, still does in a way
Those nurgle dice were sooo cool, but soooo unreadable.
The last story just tells me that giving up this hobby was the right thing to do. I don't want anything to do with such a company.
It’s still just blows my mind how store managers and the Warhammer stores in England get treated. It’s just nuts. The home of the game can’t do the game in the store, nuts. Maybe it’s time that we Americans come over and whoop it on in Nottingham to bring you freedom!
I shouldn’t be watching these before I even play my first game 😂 I’m getting too paranoid
These people are the minority, right? That’s why it’s so entertaining. They’re few and far between?
Teir list - Dave begging jert- Jetson top teir think his can ok to semi cheat-
for me classic tournament rules still rule: 3 colors on the mini or the match doesn't even start
If you want to play with unpainted minis, chess and monopoly are over there ...
I don’t feel your being elitist.
I’ve spent pure hours pouring as much love as I can into my models.
To have a table of unfinished eBay bits as an opposing force, would turn me off playing that game.
Just picture they're chaos, warped and twisted by tzeentch
Games Workshop just seems like a genuinely awful company to work for, not worth the stress for the pittance they pay, I mean nowadays they just seem to be a shit company all round but that's neither here nor there. I'd quit effective immediately, no notice, no need if you have another job waiting and they do not deserve notice.
#notallDaves
If the problem is the army is not built and missing turrets like this then no it’s not elitist. But if the issue is the army not being painted I’d say definitely elitist.
I feel like it's only elitist if you're JUST dogging on people with unpainted models just because painting is such a time and money sink. There could always be a legit reason why someone hasn't painted their models yet. Maybe it's a monetary roadblock on getting painting supplies but still want to play, maybe they just didn't want to drop money on paints before knowing if the wargaming side of it is something they actually enjoy, or any sort of actually decent reason besides just being lazy, which is usually easy to tell. We occasionally get people at our local hobby store who assemble Kill Teams on the spot and want to try them out before committing to getting all the stuff for them, but we have fun with it and do something similar to what one guy in a story on here did and pretend like our armies are running training simulations with the bare plastic models or come up with some scenario where they're weird Warp manifestations. It's a fun way to get around the immersion breaking aspect of the opponent's army being unpainted.
However, when it comes to the army being half assembled and missing whole parts, there is nothing elitist at all about not wanting to waste your time on someone who can't even assemble their army correctly or who obviously can't be bothered to fix the ones that are clearly messed up. Like, your Chaplain's head falls off in the box and you can't find it, okay, no problem, but showing up with literal tank turrets missing and half of your army looking like zombies with missing arms and legs is just unacceptable - especially if your opponent has clearly taken the time to assemble, paint, and maintain a good-looking army.
Like the stories but yeah abit of elitism, can’t bar people for the state of their models but if that’s how you feel fine. Just someone that wouldn’t want to play with.
I don't think it is elitist. Plastic is a no-go, at least spray em in one colour and put some details. Black primer with Leadbelcher on the metallics is not much to ask.
I've played WIP armies before, where about half of the models were ~80% done and the other half was primed black with some first layers of base paint. We had just gotten into Combat Patrol 10th and the guy couldn't finish in time. All good.
But don't come into a 2000pt game being 10years in the hobby and face me with half assemblee grey messes man... That's just no fun
you point about wanting to play a finished army isn't elitist because you aren't against just for the optics, you have a reason. it would ruin your immersion and you spend a lot of time, money and effort for that immersion.
that said, do hate it when people wont play you because the colours aren't right or the quality not high enough. That is elitist.
I don't find it elitist to expect someone participating in a hobby... to participate in said hobby
Plunking down a 1/4 finished, barely assembled "army" is not participating
Not being elitist buddy. The game features static models and terrain. Using the events in the game to depict what is going on is only part of the grand picture. Having the models, terrain and board all painted to a fine quality literally becomes the main physical assets in which to ground a full depiction of what's actually happening.
Imagine playing a half finished video game where your attacked by partialy rendered character models against untextured geomatry.
No paint No immersion...
I don't think it's elitist to expect your opponents to bring fully-finished armies to the table. Painting up your boys is a massive, MASSIVE part of the hobby. To the extent that GWS has an entire child company devoted to painting supplies. Literally if you dunk your space marines into a bottle of macragge blue and put little red dots on their heads for the eyes and then draw a shitty toilet seat on the shoulders, you have done enough work to bring it to the table in my opinion. But unpainted and missing parts, why are you even into the game?
I don't think I will ever understand how playing again grey models diminishes the time you spent on your model. Wouldn't it instead in comparison make your models seem better?
At least for me, it breaks the immersion of the game. When I’m playing a game, I’m imagining it as happening within the universe. Having grey models takes me out of that.
@@trajanthegreat2928 This basically. I put my effort in, where's yours? Plus its my choice what army I play against and what I don't right? Some people are into the hobby for different things.
Lol we found the lazy fellow who doesn't paint his models fellas. Honestly though, the issue is that it really breaks the immersion seeing a bunch of flat gray plastic facing down your army on the table.
It's called showing respect for the person across the table from you.
Great video but the weird dismissal of mental illness was a big turn off. ItS eAsY
You are being elitist.
The dice thing definitely.
The exception would be if over time you see no improvement in his army.
Lmao what a small awesome hobby world that's great love the continuity 😅 I also would love to have a league as involved as theirs what a dream
