The only games workshop within HOURS of where I live (this ones an hour away?), opens at 10 or 11, dude takes lunch at 12:30, comes back supposedly 1 (whenever he decides I guess) and closes at 6. Theres been 3 times id show up between opening hours and lunch.. Closed... Come back at around 1:30, closed... Another guy showed up too last time. Told him to just go to a local game shop down the street.

I'm pretty sure the reason GW only sells its own paints in store is due to the margins being larger rather then any potential safety reasons.

The owner/manager of my FLGS decided he needed to derail a conversation I was having with the other nerds to call me a ... What's the newspeak word? MAP? I had mentioned that the reason I hadn't been around was that I was babysitting my young niece, which my sister calls 'date night', because I wasn't in a relationship. Rather than cause a scene we all just stopped, looked at him, then continued chatting. I regret not having any warhams on hand for him to put back on the shelf for me.
He is the rod by which I gage all other bad managers.

Anyone who called me a pedo for babysitting my niece would wind up drinking all of their dinners through a straw for at least a few weeks. What a piece of crap that dude was/is.

That moment of talking about your personal late success was really nice to hear.
Totally relate, people from 18-25 were becoming successful around me, and I never showed any negative reactions or comments. Funnily enough, from the ages or 28-32 I've become alot more well off and successful then my mates. This dosnt stop me from always helping and doing what I can for others in trouble, empathy and experience is a real thing

Its funny how the phrase "the hobby" applies on this channel because I think many of us don't even share the idea of what that is.
North I 'think' what we agree "the hobby" is not Warhammer itself so much as it is creative/immersive storytelling and the skills to make the story and immersion more compelling (which includes painting). At least that is how I see it when you put Warhammer and D&D under a single umbrella called "the hobby" yet exclude other forms of escapism such as Call of Duty.
I want to share an airsoft story again that is about the creative storytelling/immersion/game function that in my opinion makes it fit closer to Warhammer/D&D and shows how a certain type of airsoft is more like that and how it clashes with the type of airsoft that closer to 'COD' when the two types of player meet for an immersive game. Would that be appropriate?

It is difficult to remain on equal footing with a friend who is happy and satisfied when you yourself are fruatrated and downtrodden due to external circumstances. You kinda dont want to hear about it, just as much as you don't want to hear yourself talk about how bad things are going

Lost my cool with a homeless guy in a manner similar to how you're describing. Here in Cardiff we have a lot of panhandlers. Was taking my girlfriend out on a date night and we were walking down the city centre - perfectly normal for folks to ask you for change "Sorry, not got any" is usually enough.
This one guy was mega pushy and started following us repeatedly badgering - I just turned around and shouted "GET LOST MATE" and he got proper aggressive over it, fortunately nothing physical.
But like you, I got home and I thought "what the hell was I thinking?" These guys are smackheads, for all you know they could shiv you for getting lairy at them.

you describe yourself as a "silent seather" but that's not fair to yourself, you didn't seethe, you wanted more for yourself. I can relate completely, I know the success of others doesn't diminish my achievements, and I don't wish for anyone's downfall, but sometimes it is so hard to remain calm and stoic when you work so hard and have so little. The world isn't fair and it is what it is, but you shouldn't condemn yourself for not being satisfied with your station in life, especially when you don't do anything to warrant your perceived failures or shortcomings.

Tbh hearing all this stuff about warhammer stores makes me feel like I'm very lucky ive got a good local store, met a bunch of great people and the only 2 times ive been to an official warhammer store were
    1. The only thing i bought was an officio prefectus commissar and i got the free mini of the month i cant remember what it was all i remember is that it was part of the flesh eater courts and some guy traded me a fully built and painted death korps killteam in trade idk how i got that lucky but it worked out.
2.this time i went down to a large city by train i was looking to get a leman russ to finish off my 1000 point army thry didnt have any in stock but if i had never gone there i never wouldve found the other tabletop game store that i got a leman russ at for a discount

Triggered for shitting on Fantasy Battle? You damn right! As a vintage 1987 Oldhammer kid, alls I gots to say to that Luke is what Phil Hartman said whilst impersonating Frank Sinatra: 'I've got chunks of guys like you in my stool!'

Luke makes me think of a new video category. How about videos with the title: 'What faction would your Games Workshop manager belong to?'. Luke is straight up Black Templars. My nearest Warhammer store manager would be Votann. Note it isn't what they'd play. It's what they'd actually fit in with if in the game world.

I've been binge listening to all your videos since I found the channel, especially the mental health videos that have a very personal meaning for me. Great work North, your channel is fantastic.

I thought that too, but there are some terrific painting guides by Citadel and the the community here on CZcams. I would suggest giving it a shot. I went from "I have no skill" to "I can't wait to drybrush that knight" in about 3 months time. If you put in the work, the skill will come.

It's a process not an event man. I sucked at painting when I started. But slapchop, lots of CZcams videos, and practice made me at least presentable. You can always strip them and start over or paint over mistakes

@kevinfreer397 thanks, I'll probably take another run at it one of these days. Right now, I'm a bit low on disposable income. When bills are caught up and under control, maybe I'll try again. I Love Sisters Of Battle and grey knights, I've never played a game before, but I would love to try some day, I'd be happy just collecting miniatures as well. Thanks for the advice! :)

Apologies in advance, I watch a lot of these videos and get so frustrated for people that deal with problematic "that guy" people, that I wanted to rant a little bit here.
I don't wish to tar every member of staff with the same brush here, that would be ridiculous. In my area, with each visit, the elitist managers/staff and their condescending responses to simple questions from a complete newcomer, are the reason why I haven't been in a Games Workshop in over 20 years.
Thanks to alternate sellers, and 3D printing, I've been able to build armies for a number of recent years now, without the attitude nor the "new release" selling pushes from GW in store.
Being in retail from 2013 - 2020, I could finally see that I wasn't mad for avoiding that Games Workshop store completely. There is absolutely no bloody good reason to talk down to customers, you yourself are, in a number of cases, the sole representing member of the company that customer will most likely ever know or see, and your negative attitudes towards your staff and customers alike, will likely sway their opinion of you, your store and your company in a bad way indefinitely.
Not only that but, come on, why can't they just be decent human beings and at least try to make their shift a little easier on themselves, and the customers, by being more open minded that there are varying levels of skill, budget, and complication from one customer to the next.
Where's the harm in praising a paint job, on a faction of models someone's brought in for say, a 500 point game, even though you yourself have some incredible painted works that could be easily seen as leagues above in expertise.
Where's the harm in accepting that £6 for a magazine won't meet everyone's understanding of what the content is worth, politely and calmly stating that the price point is what we feel reflects the work produced in said magazine.
That manager berating the little girl for her level of painting. It's sickening.
The absurd behaviours from some staff that I've been listening to in many of these hobby nightmare videos, the manager in particular in this video, are on a completely maddening level of maladjustment and hell knows why or how they were even considered for their positions in employment in the first place.
Once again, I don't say any of this tarring all GW staff with the same brush, it's in response to solely those in these hobby nightmares.
As you've said in this video, North (you've explained it better than the following) a Games Workshop member of staff has a duty of care for those on the property, and I would assume a manager, more than their staff members, would be even more concerned with that peace of mind for customers.
On a MUCH lighter note, the story about the newly acquired house and the Necromunda fight brought a huge smile on my face. It brought me way back to collective roars or boos across my own gaming tables.
As usual, great responses to those writing in with these hobby nightmares, looking forward to the painting streams, North!

Geez, could the blow by blow game play be relegated to some kind of separate video subject header or something as a means of allowing listeners to choose what videos to enjoy? There's a difference in hobby nightmares and game play recaps. The name for this video implies the usual hobby nightmare story. Was there a point to the first story? All I heard was another 'battle report'. It's like sports to me - fun to play or photograph, but boring to just watch or listen to. I suppose some folks like that. Make it clearer what content we are in for. Now roll that beautiful bean footage!

Spunk Bubbles says in one moment that he's willing to work on a personality defect... but then says he's worried about getting into painting because of poor painting skills.
My dude, painting is a skill you can improve and practice with. If you don't mind self-improvement in one area, get adventurous and try to learn to paint properly. There aren't really bad painters, just bad methods and lack of practice.

'Succesful' guy is a douche. "I don't show off my career, salary, wealth, kids, relationship, et cetera - as long as everyone knows about it, acknowledges it, lets me talk down to them because of it, and actively participates in celebrating my superiority for it."
