Totally. All that aside, consider this, hobby wife: I have near crippling alcoholism and smoke like a pack of cigarettes a day at least. I’d estimate at this point I spend Al least 30 USD on addictions I consume every single day, which has been the case for at least 20 years. I do not want to do that math. Oh and I have nothing to show for it except poor health, missed opportunities, and ruined friendships. So hobby bro lay all that out and ask if she’d like to trade.

Exactly this. Joint for bills, we each put in each month. Beyond that, mine is mine, hers is hers. Sure, we share (ok, I share, I earn twice as much lol) but when she wants something she gets it, when I want something I get it. If its a joint account then no rules were broken, both parties have legal rights to know how much is in there and how much has come out, if its his own personal account and he gave her permission to login then it's his own fault, if he didn't give her access THEN a law has been broken but most couples at some point give access to these things to their partners so it's harder to prove data breach if she can turn round and say he told me the password/pin number/security details

@@andrewlaidlaw7975 thats the point, if it was a joint account then yes she had every legal right to do what she did and that should be the only way to do it, you can't show any amount of id to get the receipts from anyone, even for your own children its illegal, even if it was for the doctors or hospital it would be against gdpr, there is no level of id anyone can show to get access to anyone else's financial records, that was the whole point of the new gdpr rules coming I to effect, not even your own mother can't do what she did.... unless it's a joint account ✌️
This is a big talking point right now because of that last kid that unalived himself, Facebook won't release his search data to his own mother because of gdpr even though he's dead

My wife currently always asks, "you want it? Can we afford it? Will it hurt us in the long run?" I usually answer, Yes- yes-no, and she answers, "GRAB IT" or she'll grab it for me. She's very supportive of my hobbies, and I of hers.
Ex-wife though oof, if I wanted something I'd agonize about buying it for months. Eventually saving and scrounging change to buy something far below the value I'd usually look for. Even then she'd just complain that I spent money, even if I spent less in total than she did on her own purchases in the same time frame.
Difference is night and day. One understands the hobby means something, the other just saw it as me doing something random and stupid.

The story about their wife going to the store to get various pages of purchases presumable with little to no proof other than a conversation lasting X length of time would be the equivalent of a scammers paradise in being able to get hold of peoples info & I'm sure would also count as a breach in data protection.
Going on from the Call centre I worked in would more than likely count this as a breach in data protection & depending on the severity or number of times its happened would then lead disciplinary or dismissal.
I would consider it a to rather harsh if their significant other can't or wont understand what makes them happy considering that hairdressers & nail saloons charge £30+ depending on what your going in for.

Honestly the problem started when the husband decides he was going to be deceptive toward his partner. It actually sounds like the wife was fine with the hobby and recognized that her husband enjoyed this enough to go into a store and try to find something he would enjoy. I can certainly understand the sticker shock she probably had. I can even see how she might not have thought much of seeing what he's bought so she can get him something similar he wouldn't already have. I would suspect they probably got through the conflict by fucking having a conversation about things that matter to them like adults and partners instead of hiding shit. Honestly, North, you have some real weird ideas about women and stories about hobby guys' female partners absolutely trigger the hell out of you.

She's kind of right though, I get nearly the same enjoyment out of spending $50 a month vs $150 a month because I already have a large 40k army and two AoS armies. I try and keep my hobby spending to $60 max a month unless there is a big purchase I need to make.

Just to defend the wife in that story a bit - there's a lot of details missing there. We have NO idea how much he spends on the hobby - if they were in a financially precarious situation or he'd been going "oh money's tight" for years then spending thousands, or if they have a family and his spending had put them in a bad situation, she has a right to call that shit out, just the same as if he had a drugs or gambling problem that was skinting them as well. How reasonable the wife was being depends entirely on whether OP was well-off and spending his own disposable income, or whether he was taking food out of his kids mouths to fund his hobby.
The REAL villain in this story though is the GW employee who supposedly printed out his purchase history (not too convinced on this but let's give it the benefit of the doubt). That person literally acted illegally there, even giving someone's spouse that information is a massive breach of GDPR rules and they should have been fired and taken to court for it.
Regarding how the couple resolved it, I mean other than just being adults about it, I'd like to think she went "You fucking idiot. You could have got this 20% cheaper at an independent retailer."

I have to disagree with you here North.
The guy's wife went into the store to buy him a gift for his favorite hobby. Clearly she went in with good intentions. The clerk offered to print off his purchase history, which she accepted A because it would tell her which army to buy (Buying a Necron player a bunch of Fire Warriors is kinda useless) and help her not buy duplicates.
Now admittedly she should have recognized that yes makeup costs hundreds of dollars and so does Warhammer. He doesn't tell her not to buy makeup so she should not tell him to not buy 40k. So perspective is key here, but you don't respond to her with the papers with "I want a divorce" that's childish.
