    As a newbie who just want to paint for now and doesn’t know what I would play after. I think I'm gonna subcribe because It's just impossible to find a specific issue here...

      Welcome! :) If you are in the UK and have not tried Forbidden Planet, they are excellent for getting specific issues. You do have to be on the ball though as the best issues go fast. Otherwise subscribing is the best way to ensure you definitely get the issues you want. I hope you enjoy!

      It's also easy to get them in WHSmiths in the UK. Have picked up more from there a few times.

    super excited for the subscription purely because most of the models are cool for building and painting for me, not fussed at all about it not having useable armies because i really don't intend to play - can see why people wouldn't be happy though that's fair. plus if i change my mind, i can just grab the nice value dread/tyrant and cancel :)

    I think a pertinent question when it comes to the "increased value" is how many of the unit-replacing-characters will be spread across multiple issues? Seems to me that any multi-sprue kit will be supplied one sprue per issue, (sometimes you get just the bases in a third issue!) so it's actually most likely a stealth "price rise" or lowering of overall value. I always found these partworks magazines a great way to pick up a couple each of GW super-overpriced character models.

    • @PlasticKrakenWargaming
      @PlasticKrakenWargaming  Před měsícem

      A good point. They can certainly hamstring the value by splitting kits across multiple issues. Picking up just the characters you want (but wouldn't pay full price for) seems like a smart move to me.

  • @DMDuncan37
    @DMDuncan37 Před měsícem +4

    I agree, subscription is useless for most players. It will mostly benefit scalpers!
    Only one shoot from one faction.
    40k's patrol mode is bad, boring and unbalanced. Most of these patrols are outdated (v9), GW is changing them all to v10.
    I hope GW will make a spearhead equivalent to 40k, the game looks much better and has good replayability.
    Paint and tools are a bad deal too! GW is expensive when there are many hobbies brand with products just as good and much cheaper.

    • @PlasticKrakenWargaming
      @PlasticKrakenWargaming  Před měsícem

      Thank you for the comment. Those are good points. I also hope GW build upon what Spearhead is bringing to the table. I think Combat Patrol is a good idea that was poorly executed. I think the next iteration could be a lot better if they use Spearhead as the basis.

    I definitely dont want to subscribe to the whole magazine but I live in the US and im not really sure how ill get individual issues. But theres certain issues id love to get my hands on. I started with Tyranids right when 10th edition launched and while i dont love them my friend is interested in Tyranids and wants to buy the army from me.
    That said, the main things ill be after out of the magazine are CSM and World Eaters units. Im in love with Chaos and want to get some more experience with building their models to see if i want to fully commit to an army

      @PlasticKrakenWargaming oh I've fallen alright. I fell in love with death guard and have whole heartedly embraced papa nurgle. I even got some nurglings and war dogs as allies, but who knows if they'll turn into full daemon and knight armies respectively. At this point I know chaos is my favorite for sure.

    The combat patrol subscription was looking pretty terrible value, so these changes are a welcome change, its just a shame they have gone with the space marine and tyranids in the set as most newbies or Leviathan buyers will have those.

    • @Donnydav3
      @Donnydav3 Před měsícem +1

      I think its decent enough value, but you are right about leaning in to tyranids and space marines. As a returning player i bought the ultimate starter set (couldnt get hold of leviathan in time for xmas) so i have alot of the models. However i struggled to choose a chapter so having extra models will be nice to paint different chapters

    • @PlasticKrakenWargaming
      @PlasticKrakenWargaming  Před měsícem

      I hear you. Having those be the first run of issues means I'm not as excited for the actual launch as it will be a while before the next army's issues start coming out. However, I get that Space Marines are recognisable to a wider audience, so having those early issues include Space Marines will mean more people are likely to pick it up. Are there any armies included you are interested in?

    • @PlasticKrakenWargaming
      @PlasticKrakenWargaming  Před měsícem

      Ultimate Starter Set was still decent I think, but yes a lot of crossover here. The first issue especially is great though if you just want to get yourself a cheap space marine model to practice paint schemes on.

    • @PlasticKrakenWargaming
      @PlasticKrakenWargaming  Před měsícem +1

      Thanks for the comment. I think more and more people are going to follow the same approach, to be honest. It has always been expensive but the price rises keep coming and they keep pushing their luck. I don't know how they expect new generations of kids to get into the hobby when everything is so damn expensive. I really only buy heavily discounted Warhammer items now (since I don't have a 3d printer or space for one currently). So deals via a magazine, sales or some sort of value box are the only time I buy anything really. Hope the 3d printer is going well for you and you get to print some awesome new terrain to enjoy :)

      @@PlasticKrakenWargaming i did used to feel bad but honeatly gw clearly have no regard for anything other than increased profits. For example mate i printed an exocrine last night thats 50 to 60 quid from gw or £1.94 in resin to print one thats tougher and in better quality..

    Do these changes make those 3 armies illegal in the current combat patrol format?

    • @PlasticKrakenWargaming
      @PlasticKrakenWargaming  Před měsícem +1

      Hey. No they do not interfere with the Combat Patrol lists. So the way it works is each army will get their Combat Patrol + some additional models. The ones they have swapped out here are from those additional models you get, rather than the Combat Patrols, as otherwise they would be illegal as you say. I think the additional models are essentially a way of tempting you to increase your army further, because you have these additional models you can't use in the Combat Patrol mode, but could use in regular 40K if you expanded your army a bit more.

    • @PlasticKrakenWargaming
      @PlasticKrakenWargaming  Před měsícem +2

      Hi, thank you for commenting. So, Hachette have shown a photo of the full collection and recently confirmed the changes in this video via an email to subscribers. We know which combat patrols are included, as well as which additional models will appear. also know specifically which models come in the first few issues (the first 4 of which were available as part of a trial run earlier in the year, which I was able to get and make videos about). I cannot recommend the following site enough, this will eventually list ahead of time exactly which models come in every issue. www.fauxhammer.com/news/warhammer-40000-combat-patrol-magazine-contents-list-issues-1-80/ or just search 'Fauxhammer combat patrol' and it will come up. They are an amazing resource and they have been making these content lists for the previous Warhammer magazines like Imperium, Conquest, Stormbringer etc. The only thing we do not know is what 'optional' extra models might be included - in previous subscriptions they had these occasional extra bonus issues every so often which they will send you and charge you for unless you opt out - those typically are not known about in advance (they send out a letter about this in the shipment before it will arrive, to give you a chance to opt out). I hope that helps!

    Yeah, not gonna subscribe to this, just get my local WH Smiths to reserve me a single copy of each issue.
    I've really not interested in all the free subscription gifts as having subbed to Conquest, Mortal Realms, Imperium and Stormbringer, I've more then got enough clippers and mugs.....
    And the specials lately haven't really impressed me much with their quite random Character Specials that don't fit in with the armies provided....

    • @PlasticKrakenWargaming
      @PlasticKrakenWargaming  Před měsícem

      Yeah the special models have really gone downhill. Are WH Smiths cool with you saying I want Issue 70, 72, 74 etc? Or will they only do it if you pick up literally every issue, even if it's just a paint issue for example? Curious to know. I'd love an arrangement like that with my local one because they are quite hit and miss with their support of the magazines.

      @darrenrichardson6146 Před měsícem +1

      @@PlasticKrakenWargaming They may try to get in every issue for you, however if you miss several issues the supply chain tends to stop sending in issues, which means you then have to ask the staff to order it back in again, at least in my experience in my local store with the Stormbringer partwork, didn't have that problem so much with Imperium before it.

    • @PlasticKrakenWargaming
      @PlasticKrakenWargaming  Před měsícem

      Yeah, Imperium was much better for building up a decent couple of forces. I suppose the value for current gamers would just be in being able to pick up individual issues to top up your army with a new character or grab a unit you were going to get anyway, but for a discount. But when it comes to subscribing, current gamers for sure get less out of it.
