I will never not use blades

Scottie Scheffler is the only one who should be using blades. Even Bryson is using a hollow-body iron these days

I stumbled into blades after finding out irons with narrower soles work better for me. Played them from a 12 HCP to where I am today, a 2 HCP. They have also helped me enjoy the game more as well

I had a set of cavity backs that i got a little while back. they were great for me at the start considering i could barely make solid contact and couldnt break 110. ended up grinding for a year and was able to consistently shoot low 90s. i ended up hitting a point where these cavity backs were not ideal for me due to the shafts. 75g, graphite, R flex shafts while i was swinging my 7i 90mph. i just wasnt able to control my shots. decided to get new irons with 130g x-stiff shafts but i was debating on what type of head to get. ended up going with the taiii irons from sub70. they are considered blades, but people describe them as more forgiving blades. recommended for +-5 handicap on their website. they are gorgeous but i hateddd them at the start. i couldnt hit them nearly as far and bad contact took like 15 yards off compared to a solid strike. took some time and a lot of practice but they forced me to improve my swing and improve my contact with the ball. i love them now and they forced me to improve my swing and game overall. broke 80 for the first time a few weeks ago.

I had a full set of 2020 p770s and for whatever reason I had really nasty random pulls with the short irons. A mishit further off the toe was a nightmare. I was missing so many greens with the short irons. I tried p7TWs in 7-p and that pull completely went away. People look at me like I'm crazy when I mention that the toe miss is actually more forgiving with a blade because it goes much less offline and for less yardage if that makes sense. With the p770 that miss was almost always a guaranteed bogey or double-bogey depending on how rough that area was around the green/out of bounds. My handicap has gone from a 10 to a 4. Average greens in reg went from 6-8 to 10-12. Forcing myself to get better with blades has made me a much better ball striker. The thin top line and less offset give me more confidence to my eye. It feels like you have nowhere to hit but the center of the face. With that being said I haven't tried the newest stuff and the T100s did catch my eye the last time I was in a golf shop. But in the meantime I feel I can still improve my game by cleaning up the short game and putting. Maybe in the future.

Switched to blades a few years ago and my approach game improved. No more odd jumpers. Much better spin and carry distance consistency. Added a 5 & 6 cavity back iron this year to get a bit more launch and peak height and play blades from 7-PW. Pitching wedge is 46 degrees. Handicap index is 4.5.

Played blades as a kid and growing up. Went from MBs to 718 AP2 and never looked back. Right now gaming T150 P-5

Higher CoG, thinner sole/better turf interaction, and compact head. All aspects of blades that suit my swing and I prefer, but I still play cavity backs because I know my ball striking isn’t where it needs to be to survive the mishits 😂

+3 hcp here. I played blades my entire golf life. Started tracking all my stats and was hitting 68% GIR. I bought the ping i230 last year and that percentage is now 72%. For me more greens means less bogeys = lower scores. I had a round a few weeks ago where I hit 17 of 18 greens. I still love blades but I’m not going back and I don’t see the reason to play blades unless you just like the look of blades.

Again, how does the average Joe hit them? We really don't learn from Captain ball speed! My best ball striking was with MacGregor VIP's years ago.

I watched a number of these 1L iron test videos. I may be wrong, but it seems that with the long irons, the swing seems faster than the short/wedge. Perhaps it is psychological. One would tend to feel distance of a shorter shaft length 5 iron would be shorter than a normal one. Thus, consciously or unconsciously swinging with more speed. The opposite for the 9 and PW.

You said your CB Mezz putter is 36.5”, how tall are you? And how did you decide on what length putter shaft was needed for you?

Any suggestions on what Swingweight a counterbalanced putter should be at?

TPT shafts are amazing. 17 Lo Power series in driver and it’s a winner! A lot of power but not boardy feeling at all. Feels nice.

Great video as always. I can attest the Apex MB and Apex Pro combo works the best for me. I recently traded back the Apex 24 CB 8 Iron for the Apex 24 MB 8 iron. I had the MB in the 9 and 10 iron, and they both felt better and performed better for me than the CB. So now my combo set is 8-11 iron in the Apex MB and 6 and 7 Apex Pro. On a side note, all of the new Callaway Ball line is outstanding. I have used all 3 models on the Course, the Chrome Tour X, Chrome Tour and even the Chrome Soft are all vastly improved from the previous 2022 Ball line. And Callaway's customer service is great. They are slammed now, so the delivery time is a little slow. I ordered the 8 iron MB on June 19, and it just arrived today. Very happy with the new Callaway products this year.

I have been messing around the Smoke HL irons. For someone who struggles with launch and spin it won the launch monitor battle for me (highest peak height I have hit with 7i to date). Usually I struggle to see 70' at a 140 yd carry and with it, I generally see around 77'.

For what 7 iron club head speed and tempo would you recomend the PX 7.0 shaft??

Lol capt ballspeed was opposed from the beginning 😂 I highly doubt he was playing a proper X-flex iron shaft. Dude just needs a proper fitting to get his peak height’s correct and then one-length irons would be totally fine for him

I switched to the new Spyder CB a while back and really like it so far.

I’m playing a Newport 2.5+ and want to switch to a super stroke with a weight to reduce the swing weight on it. Kind of counter balanced, but looking forward to trying it and see what happens.

Hard to use. I have the 700, 302 and 602 just for collecting sake. The 700 is too risky to bring to the course. I actually haven't seen any around here use it. Plenty of 302s. A few 602 but those are used by beginners with thick wallets.

How would the 3 Flihi compare to the 225 3 iron?, they are the same loft. I have the 225s 4-PW. Looking to fill the gap between irons and woods. (10 driver and 15 wood). Either a 3 iron 225 or Flihi 3 iron. Cheers Nick

Surprised to hear Ian's thoughts on the C-Taper. I don't swing nearly as hard as him and I recently got the C-Tapers. They feel so smooth to me. Funny how much they can feel different between players.

Any time you put your hands on a putter the squareness of the face will solely be a result of your hands … that device that they show off these putters with is neat but proves nothing … I’m not a believer

I really like Titleist's line-up but I feel like they could simplify it a lot. Something like: T000: Old MBs T050: Old CBs T100 T150 T200 T250: Old T350 T300: Old T400 It would be such a clean line-up and make their numbers feel less random. That being said, I also don't know if they even need 7 irons in the line-up. Almost feeling like they could stop after the T200s and get rid of the current T350 and T400 just IMO

I got the 13.5 mini driver two weeks ago and it's been a godsend. Unlike the super swinging guy here whaling away at a 125 swing speed, I'm a 70 year old 5'5" golfer with a slow senior swing. I've always struggled with my driver and never felt comfortable with the length and big head. This thing just felt natural to hit from my first swing. Not only is my yardage about the same as with my Ping 425 driver, I'm straight down the fairway instead of fanning it all over the place. I'm easily gaining 4 strokes per round due to accuracy. I highly recommend this club for anyone struggling with their driver. For me it's replaced my driver and 3 wood because I get driver distance off the tee and it's easy to hit off the fairway too.

I find that talking - while putting - is a big plus. Or NOT.

Just curious, which shaft were you guys using in this test?

I’ve got a Wishon fairway driver 11°. Haven’t played it a couple years. Think I’ll pull it out again. I do need a better shaft.

Maybe someone can explain why irons are usually all different lengths...other than that's how they've always been.
