Drinking the 2021 Yunnan Sourcing "Xiao Xi Gui Village" Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake

- This is a 2013 Spring harvested tea from old plantation trees and bushes growing in Xiao Xi Gui Village (a sister village to Xi Gui) in the Bang Dong area of Lincang.
The tea was aged in mao cha form in both Lincang and then Kunming before being pressed in 2021! The aging that occurred while the tea was in loose leaf form has imparted a lightly aged taste, but more importantly the tea has become very complex and thick in the mouth. The aroma is that of mushroom broth and tropical hardwood, and the taste honey and mushrooms with a background astirngent umami taste and long lasting mouth-feel accompanied by a mouth-watering effect. It can be steeped many times without losing its complexity. The cha qi is noticeable and pleasant.

OK this comment as long overdue. Can definitely confirm that this cake deserves to be the 2021 pick.
I ordered this sample along with some other ones from this year at random and did a blind tasting.
I’ve got to say that all of the samples from this year were excellent, with nodes ranging from fresh to mushroomy.
2021 Xiao xi gui has all of that with the addition of a great sweet aroma. I knew it was the one without reading the names on the rappers by smell alone.
It's one of my top three raws from 2021! It's really satisfying!
