- After taking on the grueling Professor Oak's Challenge in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, I think it's time to jump to the newest generation and see just how difficult it can really be. Today we're going to find out how easily you can complete Professor Oak's Challenge in Pokemon Sword and Shield. I completely agree with your rules on exploits:
Exploits are fine when they minimise the time that your NOT playing the game, if you had to wait for each den to respawn over and over then you wouldn’t be playing.
Using it for exp on the other hand minimises the time you ARE playing, so it shouldn’t be done.
TopThog This is a great way of looking at it and great explanation. I hate how time is a gate for most of the game and catching Pokémon so I’m happy to use the exploit. Time gates are cheap and lazy development. I understand evolving certain Pokémon at night, but waiting for the right weather all week to catch a single Pokémon? That’s actively stopping us from playing the game, not cool! And not fun.

i dont think i understand? ): yes the dens take a way long time to spawn, but the only fast/easy way for them to refresh is by defeating each raid, which is not only good for xp candies and tms, but its faster than waiting for them to refresh. idk.

@@wallybrown1341 tbh i wished leveling was this easy in other games as well. I just did a monotype nuzlocke with grass type in hoenn. Let me tell you, leveling was scary because of the amount of pokemon that had supereffective moves against me the entire game. Not fun lmao
@@AlCapwndYou05 I can imagine... Grass, if I'm not mistaken, has the most amount of weaknesses of ANY type. Weak to Poison, Fire, Ice, Bug, and Flying. 3 of those types, Fire, Bug, and Flying, are EXTREMELY common.

I literally beat the entirety of Winona’s gym in the time span of John talking about all of his Wild Area evolutions
I guess Prof Oak Challenge was never envisioned for something like the wild area, it's insane. I can see why it would be fun on older games, since I tend to push myself to catch everything on a route before progressing, but the wild area completely broke the challenge.
How? the game clearly lays out a path of progression. You encounter a strong looking Pokémon then you go to another area and rinse and repeat. You go back the next day and if the weather changed there will be different Pokémon and you still can’t catch strong looking variants which will almost always be grouped together

you can't get authentic sinistea via raid. it's only in glimwood tangle.

Sword actually has FOUR more before the first gym (totaling 293) as in addition to the version-exclusive Farfetch'd, Sirfetch'd, Darumaka and Darmanitan, Mareanie (and thus Toxapex) can be caught in 1-star raids only in Sword. Meanwhile Shield's only exclusives this early are Ponyta and Rapidash.

I shiny hunted my Chewtle on the aglerspot in motorstoke where you tried at first, after about 1500 encounters i got 2 shiny magikarps and a shiny chewtle and not even once found a barboach

I want John to throw everyone for a huge loop and make a video about Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth.
I don't know if an Oak's challenge would work for those games. Every Digimon is related by evolution to every other Digimon, so aside from the few that need key items/progression (armors, Spirits, Hackmon and Royal Knights in Vanilla CS, Hudiemon and the Arcadiamon line in HM), it might be technically possible to acquire every single Digimon as early as you have access to the DigiLab.
I only say might because you can only de-digivolve if you've already seen the pre-evolution, and you don't encounter all five Baby digimon immediately in either game. But even then, HM has all five Baby Digimon for sale as soon as you have access to DigiMarket, which opens up all evolution pathways. Granted, you can't actually *use* some of the Digimon until you get your first Memory Up (you start with 20 and memory costs go up to 25), but still.
It would be interesting nonetheless.

I was really curious to see how this went. I've got Shield, and I haven't done any link trades to get specific pokemon. But because I got lucky with surprise trades, I got the starters, and because of sword players hosting their raids, I've only got 25 pokemon left to get and I think my save file is sitting at around 80 hours.
I took a break from pokemon around 1 and a half years ago and just got back into pokemon a few weeks ago naturally i was looking up some videos about new mechanics and stuff and i realized That 95% of the community posts either extrem low quality content or makes the same videos everyone else makes and then i found this channel and thought to myself that there is still hope for this community. I hope your videos will continue to do as well as they do now and beg you to not change. You are a gem my good sir

I have the official sword and shield guidebook and that was a HUGE help when I was trying this challenge myself. It shows you how to heat the game, (dlc not included) what encounters are in each area, there spawn rates, and the map and battles.
