- After taking on the Professor Oak's Challenge in the Sword and Shield base game, as well as the Isle of Armor DLC, there is only one addition to these generation 8 games that we haven't taken a look at. Today we're going to find out how easily you can complete Professor Oak's Challenge in Pokemon Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC! How easily could you complete the professor oak challenge in Sword and Shield WITH doing the DLCs as you progress through the main game? Both DLCs are available before the first gym but the levelling is a lot easier now because of being able to trade Dynite Ore for EXP L and EXP XL candies. I should know: im in the middle of one myself and i waited before progressing to see if the crown tundra was available before Milo. The only tedious thing is trying to get all available pokemon from the dynamax adventures because you can obtain pokemon that are spread across all 3 pokedex lists

@@ElectroBlastLuigi It’s been this way ever since the Pokémon Company took over, Gamefreak is a good company, but all TPC cares about is money money money. It’s sad to see a company as good as GF fall into the hands of a bunch of greedy stealers. They pushed GF to get SwSh out super fast to make money, they partnered with Tencent to make money, and they don’t listen to their fans anymore.
GF is a good company, but TPC just controls it and is using it to make that sweet cash. Sort of like when the bad guy’s minion looks evil, but is actually good and is being forced to be evil.
Okay, so, the lore behind the fossils is pretty cool. Calyrex's dex entry says it foresaw a meteor hitting and destroying an entire forest and every pokemon in it, so he teleported away the whole forest and every pokemon in it. Calyrex prevented the meteor that caused the fourth mass extinction event from affecting the Crown Tundra. Well, we assume it was the fourth because the meteor that killed the dinosaurs in our world was the fourth, and that was what it was referencing. But I think that's really cool!
That is cool, I didn't know that bit. But it does not line up with the story people living in Crown Tundra have - in this case I believe both are true.
So according to the people of Crown Tundra, fossil Pokémon appeared shortly before you arrive there. Or more specifically - shortly after Nebby was found. Since I didn't look at Calyrex dex entry I thought Nebby was the cause of all of it
But again I think the stories are both linked. Calyrex did teleport the forest and the pokemon away from danger, but it was Nebby that summoned them back to current time period Crown Tundra
@@RancorSnp I thought the people said the Legendary Pokemon appeared shortly after Nebby arrived, not the fossils.
@@Whispernyan It applies to both. In the max den you can her than the first Legendary pokemon found inside was Solgaleo / Lunala depending on your version of the game
BUT outside you have a train station NPC saying "It's been a while since I came back home, but it seems like a lot's changed... It's a lot colder than I remember, and there are so many rockish Pokemon wandering around...."
The old lady who gives you Nebby then says that all these weird pokemon only started appearing after she found it - and I really doubt she ever went inside the max den
@@RancorSnp Oh I remember that guy in the train station, never payed it much mind but that is weird. If Calyrex was the one who saved the fossil pokemon by teleporting them away, he definitely wasn't the one to bring them back in this current age with him being devoid of power for generations, and I don't see why whatever method the UBs and Legend ended up here would bring the fossil pokemon back either.
My biggest question is still why do the Villagers choose to live in one of the coldest areas of the their region, even if crops don't grow anywhere it still has to be nicer not being in snow when a few steps outside town is greenland. In fact how do any of them survive if they haven't been able to grow food for centuries, I honestly feel like this storyline isn't quite adding up

1) Calyrex probably teleported them to an Ultra Dimension or something, and the couple of fossil Pokémon that came with Cosmog may have come with it to protect it, though that part is pure speculation. In any case, Calyrex may very well be connected to the Ultra Beasts.
2) IRL people live in batshit insane locations that they REALLY shouldn’t. I don’t doubt that it’s the same in this world too.

I've wanted to do a SwSh playthrough with only using the fossil Pokémon, and thankfully the only two that got axed were the two I really didn't want to use anyway.

Now that all of the DLC is out, you should do a master prof Oak's challenge for the entire game. Basically, play the game as if both DLCs were there the whole time and start from the beginning. It's free content and you could make a super clickbaitable title for it. I'd watch it.
Well, depending on how he handles the DLC stories, that wouldn't be very different.
For example, for the Crown Tundra, you can actually go everywhere prior to doing their stories. So barring places blocked by rivers, almost everything can be caught after a few badges (2 maybe?). Once you can bike over water, almost everything else becomes available except a few legendaries that require further progress. One (I can't recall who but maybe the new Regis) requires 7 badges while Calyrex requires being champion to have that final battle. As such, it would pretty well be the same up until the station lets you go to the DLC, then catch another 400+ Pokemon, get your bike, another 150 or so, beat the seventh gym, a dozen more, become champion, 2-3 more. Really tedious and boring
I've been doing that and it's absolutely messed up
You can add Oranguru/Passimian (whichever was version exclusive to the opposite game) to your total in Dynamax Adventures. Since you also skipped them in the Isle of Armor, Accelgor/Escavalier are also there for both games.
So the actual total is 594.

The only mythical available is Keldeo, and that's probably just as an easter egg for being the 4th sword of justice seeing as you can find the 3 others
You have to beat the game to get Calyrex and the selected horse. Trying to begin the fight against Calyrex and horse will say something along the lines of: "There is too much power, you can barely hold your pokeballs! You should come back when you are the champion."
Source: Austin John Plays did a vid where he tried to catch Calyrex and other legends before getting his first badge, and getting that message when he was about to fight Calyrex and horse.

I honestly can't say I agree. Honestly this week is the first time I even heard people didn't like Isle of Armor - which came as a surprise to me.
Crown Tundra has some cool things to it, the story of Calyrex was fun to experience, Peony is pretty cool, and dynamax adventures + galarian star tournament add some more tangible activities to do.
But also the new content while enjoyable didn't have as much depth to it as I expected. Galarian star tournament was my most anticipated feature but it has so little variety to it almost kills it.
Dynamax adventures are fun to play, but I do get tired when going at it for a longer while - and not getting pokedex entries bothers me.
Isle of Armor had an amazing rival (Klara of course, shield got scamed) and a lot new additions, armorite ore, honey's quest, following pokemon done well, appricorn balls, random NPC encounters, tutor moves, plenty of clothing, digging pa etc etc
I like Crown Tundra but I definetely enjoyed Isle of Armor more
EDIT : Also normal raids stopped being relevant. In IoA you had the motivation of doing raids for Armorite ore which is super important as a currency. In CT normal raid gives 1 dynite ore (2 if Delibird) which basically means there is never a reason to do them

I just finished binge watching all the Nuzlockes on the second channel after being a long time viewer of the first channel and seeing and hearing John say, “pog” and “Twitch Prime” a million times and being overall goofy to coming back and hearing John’s more calm and professional tone is like night and day lmfao

You can also find Regigigas, but you need all 5 regis, meaning you'd need to trade or have a second file/game for the regi you didn't choose. It can be shiny, but it's level 100, and in a raid format, though you can use your entire team to fight it, with items and no ko/turn limit. Austin John Plays made a great video on the Regis and the Swords of Justice if you'd like to know more.

Well you have to talk to real people ONLINE and for the challenge to be valid it has to be offline.

@@mystic7722 this challenge is more solo based. It being offline is just an obvious rule in order for it to be solo.. If you say "well its local so it counts" then you'd have to allow local trading or its inconsistent.
Well the idea is for the challenge to be consistent more or less forever, so yeah in a few years where its gonna be hard to impossible to get that, so i wouldn't count it.

Fun fact: I had no idea that calyrex wood head thing was on the table so I went forever looking for whatever I was supposed to do. I did almost every regi and the birds before it.
Since all the wild pokemon in the Crown Tundra are too high level to catch at the start of the game outside of raid battles, and also being able to get most legendaries at the start of the game, I think it'd be cool to see a Professor Oak challenge for the whole game including both DLC's in the one video

a similar thing happened to me with terrakion. it is nice to see someone else get the first encounter legend luck
One thing to note from the thumbnail is that you have to actually have enough badges to catch lvl 60 pokemon. Since at the beginning of the game that's the lvl of all the pokemon. So for those wanting to do the challenge you just have to keep that in mind.

Zapdos and moltres each took me a couple minutes. It took me an hour to find articuno and 2 tries to get the dumb game since the first time I was looking away from my screen and looked back down and all of a sudden there were three articuno around me.

Just wanted to let you know that the gift Cosmog does evolve fully using EXP candies. I have Sword and mine evolved into Solgaleo just by leveling up. I assume you can do the same in Shield to get Lunala. :)

In Dyna-Adventures, without Shiny Charm every pokemon has a chace of 1/300 to be shiny, meaning the whole adventure has a chance of 4/300 or 1/75. With Shinycharm every Pokemin has a chance of 1/100 to be shiny, making the overall chance 4/100 or for the whole adventure 1/25. That means, that without shiny charm u are likely to encounter a shiny every 75 raids, and with shiny charm every 25 raids. full-odds would be 1/4096 which is clearly not the case.

Just a note: Run invalid because you can get the legends with 0 badges.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who somehow managed to get a shiny Virizion first try! Back in USUM I got one through the wormholes and just assumed their shiny rate is boosted like the normal pokemon there. Nope, I'm just as lucky as John :P

Imagine all the mon you can get from the main game, Isle of Armor, Crown Tundra Max Dens, AND Dynamax Adventure (no catch level limit), before 1 badge... and then imagine when you have more Badges lol, that would be awesome
And yes, you can lose the battle against Peony and still progress
While that would be cool in theory, some of the Pokemon are locked by badge progression. For example, I believe Calyrex requires being champion while I want to say the Regis require at least 7 badges (might be wrong there). At least according to sources I've found. So much like gen 1 thanks to Mewtwo, not possible to catch them all before becoming champion

Well yeah, that's why i then mentioned when you get more badges, and catch em alls and Professor Oak challenges go past post-game because you can't get all mon before then
So what I'm saying is... getting EVERYTHING you can from Main game, Isle of Armor, and Crown Tundra... including Max Raids and Adventures
Getting EVERYTHING possible, before each badge... with these challenges, it already takes long enough before Milo, now add the Isle and Dynamax Adventure, would take so long
