When you see Barry has a Snorlax and a Heracross and realize he got much better honey tree luck than you.
Yeah, the most impatient rival in existance has the luck and effort to hunt down a Munchlax tree and wait the 6 hours multiple times for the rarest pokemon to spawn.

I like to think he was so impatient he slathered the tree like a million times over and just the raw amount of honey attracted his munchlax.

Some tips for those who don’t know exactly how Honey Trees work:
1) Every time you slather honey on a tree, there is a 10% chance that you won’t get a Pokémon from it. You can tell if this happens by checking the tree immediately after applying honey to it. If it doesn’t say “the bark is slathered with honey,” then you have to reapply it
2) Save before checking a tree. Your encounter is determined when you apply the honey 6 hours before, but the Pokémon’s nature, gender, level, and ability can still be random. If you get a Combee from a tree, there’s nothing stopping you from constantly resetting to try and get a female

I remember when I was playing Pearl, I had a Combee lvl 70 and I was so frustrated because it never evolved. One day I told my friend and he laughed and said to me “dude, male Combee never evolves, you need a female” so yeah, never felt stupider than that day.
Hey I tried to evolve my riolu into a Lucario at 2 in the morning and at 8 am the next day, I realised what the problem was. I felt really dumb that day.
Also I forgot it was a friendship evolution and I ended up going into the elite four with riolu who was at level 42 and still didn't evolve.
I did a similar thing in Sword with Farfetch’d since I didn’t know it needed three crits in one battle, and was in around the early to mid 50s before I just ended up looking it up. I figured it could’ve been a late level evolution like a lot of Unova Pokémon, but I started getting frustrated with it not pulling its weight

I now realize how lucky was my first and only Platinum playthrough:
- casually found a Munchlax during story progression (i.e. early game)
- found a Feebas on the 10th attempt (i.e. within 5 minutes)

@@gmk9321 I'm more surprised he didn't utlize his Pokemon better. Vespiquen is designed to be a stalling Pokemon, it naturally learns Toxic, and has two custom movies that heal it and raise it's defense, and can have Pressure. Ambipom has Technician which boosts it's weaker moves under 60 power making things like rock smash and etc really good. And Mothim could have been tutored Tailwind to boost his team's speed. He's just gotta start using actual strategy instead of submitting to over leveling and etc.

not true actually to my knowledge ambipom learns all the elemental punches trough move tutor wich granted you might get one use of if you know shard placements but if you're willing to grind the underground a bit there shouldnt be a problem

Can you beat it with a starter fisherman's team? He's already done a magikarp run so maybe do one of those one's from gen 4 with a goldeen mixed in the team of karp's for sanity's sake. Then go at it and see if you can beat it without being max level

Is it hard to catch the Munchlax, if you know what trees will spawn in? I'm not sure how often it appears, but I know there's a fairly simple code to figure out which trees can attract it.
Die4Dethklok its a one percent encounter rate in four trees out of the 21 in the Sinnoh region (two of which you can find using using your trainer ID other two are based on your secret ID which you can’t figure out without hacking the game). You slather honey on a tree and then you have to wait 6 hours before an encounter shows up (if one even shows up at all). And you can’t push the clock ahead because of how the gen 4 games work. It’s not necessarily hard to catch, it’s just hard to encounter.

Both are pretty powerful, at least strong enough to carry him until zangoose gets Return and Seviper gets poison tail and dig/earthquake and if he grinds it out, he can even get Flamethrower with a pretty decent special attack stat

I was rewatching this when I noticed Combee's ability: Honey Gather. So he could have gotten a team of Combee to get more honey for him. Honey Tree pickup strategy
The problem wasn't the honey. That's fairly cheap, and since he doesn't use items in battle money is probably a non issue .
The creators of Pokémon themselves are the ones who said: "There is no official pronunciation for any of these". Go ham, my dude. I love seeing all the crazy ways people read these names out loud; it's almost like playing pronunciation Bingo. I swear, I never would have thought of some of the ones I've heard in recent years.
Alternatively, depends on what the Elder Scrolls challenge happens to be! I do love a good bust-up of an already broken game.
i pronounced abra "ay-be-ray" until i was 7
I rarely read things aloud, and when I read in my head, I don't actually think about how a name is supposed to be pronounced. I just have the first letter then a bunch of white noise and only recognise it when it's written down. Occasionally I'll replace the white noise with random letters that only kind of make sense.
I've tried to think more about pronunciation since I came to the embarrassing realisation that I'd been pronouncing Imladris from Lord of the Rings as himalayas (but without the h), even though I'd also seen the films.

So, I know it's a bit late for this, but there is one thing you could have done to make this easier on yourself: The route 212 Move Tutor can teach Fire Punch and Ice Punch to Ambipom.
thunderpunch too, although i don't know if going off ambipoms superior base attack stat would of compensated for the lower base power? they probably didn't have the time/want to grind all those shards required in the underground

A Sandshrew challenge is right up my alley.
Next time you wanna do a playthrough with tree pokemon, might I recommend "Heartgold or Soulsilver with only Headbutt Tree pokemon".
Some different pokemon, Heracross is relatively early, and headbutting trees is WAY quicker than slathering honey.
(Start the game with Zigzagoon since it learns Headbutt naturally at level 9, or pick up the TM in Ilex Forest)

Asking MDB to do a Platinum Regigigas challenge: Day 1
I swear, God must have had faith in me because I actually got a Munchlax spawn off of a honey tree as my first encounter without trying. I didn't use it because I already had a Lopunny, but I still kept it as a trophy Pokemon. In the words of Chuggaaconroy: "Feel blessed, because that is what you are if you encounter this thing."
Also, I will say I'm glad you used a Mothim on this run. Most people find it the most forgettable pokemon in gen 4 besides of courde Finneon and Lumineon. It's a little better than people give it credit for, and its shiny is also underrated in my book.
I also really love how you can find Combee pretty early in X and Y without needing the honey trees. I was super excited and had so much fun using Vespiqueen in the early game. Although it's a little slow and frail for my taste personally. It was interesting interacting with it in Pokemon Amie, since I'm actually terrified of wasps. It's arms are actually realistic wasp arms, and it kinda freaked me out not gonna lie. I love insects, and I've even got a pet tarantula irl, but wasps freak me out.
One last thing um...I'd really like to see a a run with only buneary or only Lopunny. It's my favorite normal type, and I'm curious as to what he'd name it since it's litterally based off of the playboy bunny. It's a nothing special great baton passer, and I've used several in Nuzlockes in combos with other Pokemon to make use of it. But going off of it's regular moves...I dunno, I think it could be a very interesting run. Lopunny only learns Return if it evolves before level twelve with high friendship. Before then, it has frustration, its gimmick move. I wonder if he would keep bitter medicine on hand to make use of frustration, or if he does choose to evolve it in the run making do without return? Might be fun...Who knows?
You should do a Slakoth only run, of whatever generation you'd like.
After all, you're Mah-Dry-BREAD, and Slakoth enjoys "LOAFing" around.

I feel like the answer to most of these “Can I beat Pokémon with only X” questions is “Yes, if you grind enough.”
This will be fun. I would still love to see a run with only the move "Assist". The other moves of your team become really important there. Plus, if you are so inclined to do the appropriate chain breeding, you can even get the move onto a drowzee if you wanted.
That's actually an amazing idea. Hope he sees it.
A non evolution run could be considered as well. Just off the top of my head. There's durant, pasurisu (or however you spell that electric squirrel dawn has in the show) mistrafus (if in earlier generations) unown, etc
The problem is that it would quickly devolve into repeating fights endlessly until luck is near perfect or just over leveling the mon
Also would be something of an issue to get decent moves on other mons without requiring obscene amounts of lv grinding with an exp share, especially in earlier gens without infinite tms
Either way it doesn’t sound like something that would be done in a week, it’s definitely interesting though

Not just a solo run, a full team. He never uses just one after all.
A single Zigzagoon maybe but an entire team is way too easy. Zigzagoon has way too much optability for move sets and pickup spam. Would actually make for a fun challenge if less serious now that I think about it.

I feel like Emerald with only a Slugma would be an especially brutal challenge. At least it isn't double weak to Water and Ground like its evolution.
Emerald is pretty rough on slugma. I cought one and it was a night are raising its levels up

That does sound brutal. Slugma has the lowest base stat total of all Fire type Pokemon. Its move pool is also terrible - its only damaging level move until Level 8 is the incredibly weak Smog, and not only that, Ember is its only Fire type move by level up until Level 36. Roxanne will be tough, and he would almost certainly have to be at Level 100 to have a chance against Wallace. It might be impossible to beat him without Double Team.

I did an only Vulpix challenge in Red myself, and I have to say it was much easier than I expected. I finished it with level 68, I think if it wasn't for Brock, you could go minimal battles with it.
Yak man mdb doesn’t use glitches or exploits and I think that’s technically an exploit.
Now THAT was a great run. I love these kinds of challenges, instead of just 1 Pokémon runs

When i was trying to get honey tree pokemon i only hunted for about a week and got heracross and munchlax back to back, i got the heracross and was so happy then next tree i got munchlax... That was a good day (i also didnt know which trees were munchlax trees)
Munchlax trees are randomised every time u restart ur fam

I find these challenges absolutely insane. You complete an entire Pokémon game in the span of just a week WITH incredibly difficult limitations. I can barely finish a Pokémon game in a month while playing just normally.

I’m glad that you are doing more challenge runs that aren’t Pokémon, it means you can branch out. You also won’t get tired of these Pokémon challenges either. Either way, I’ll be watching no matter what you do

Are there any super slow fragile pokemon with weak armor? Because that sounds super painful *cough cough* weak armor shuckle for example
Idea was taken from that hacked pokemon fighting people do, where you can have a Pokemon with any moves, abilities, etc. Then battle other teams of pokemon that get the same rules. I saw a weak armor alakazam using electro ball and that gave me this idea
