    Very well explained. I just want to add one thing. LDL by themselves are not atherogenic. LDL are oxidized because of AGEs activating certain pathways that lead to formation of superoxide and hydroxyl radicals. Atherosclerosis is basically an inflammatory reaction. Oxidized LDLs engulfed by macrophages, the foam cells in fact act as shock absorber to prevent further damage to the vascular endothelial linings, because the wall shear stress of high blood pressure can further damage the endothelial linings.

    thank you for this! I'm in PA school and always wondered why having hyperglycemia could lead to things like stoke, retinopathy, and nerve damage. This really helped me out.

    What about high water content fruit diet? Affects of vitamin C and B6 etc. on AGEs and affects of fasting?

    I got, Question....the atherosclerosis issue in the context of DM, implicates renal, cardiac and peripheral arteries o .....if so why dont hear diabetic related lung , or spleen, etc. Diseases, why these are less common issue in diabetic spectrum diseases ?

    Great video. May i submit hyperinsulemia is the other way of calling out the problem of access AGE. Also ketone bodies are a second source of ATP production. It is made in the liver during a lack of glucose coming in.

    one of the best channels out there. i try to follow a low age diet. basically watching my blood sugar and cooking only stews. been failing a lot though.

    so hyperglycemia is the trigger? and is there a difference between acute and chronic hyperglycemia? Meaning if you have normal BG during the day but you spike BG during your meals due to eating fruit (for example) is this ok? Do you want to limit your BG spikes during your meals?

    what is use of AGE receptror for body, like why do we have it if it is turning AGE into harmful substances?

    Hello! Curious as to what the evolutionary benefits of the RAGE receptor are? Obviously we can see the negatives of its activation from the increased concentration of AGEs, but i was wondering why it’s there in the first place if its prolonged activation causes such damage to human health

      There are positive effects of inflammation. It has a role in healing injuries. I can't say whether specifically the RAGE receptor is required for this.
      In any case, we probably don't really require much inflammation anymore, because of modern medicine, antiseptics and hygiene. It would be an interesting target to delete in rodents, assuming they have something analogous.
      My guess is that it accelerates healing in a way that increases the chance of survival, and thus reproductive success, but at the cost of quality healing and longer life. It is probably like a fire alarm, it draws attention to tissue repair and defense.
      Of course, we have to consider that it is not natural to eat foods with high levels of AGEs. No other creatures cook their food, blend it in high-speed machines, or ferment their food. I could be wrong on the last one, though. But the point is that it would not be selected against, if it was not causing issues, and wouldn't have been without cooking and such.

    Thank you very much again. A question rise to my mind. Why our cells have Rage receptors? How can we explain that evolution has selected the presence of a receptor able to sense AGE and triggering responses that seems deleterious for the organism?
    I mean, the presence of AGE is already deleterious, why adding more deleterious effects to it by generating ROS and inflammation....??

    Hello Dear. Very informative lecture, no doubt, About AGEs, RAGE, and NOX Pathway. Can make a request? Although, I have no right to, but I'm going on a limb to request anyway :)
    NOX is just not about making ROS and doesn't just get stimulated by RAGE. It also has a binding site for FAD. Plus, NOX is just not NOX. It's a family and it performs some very meaningful functions, mostly helpful, through, for example NOX 3 and 4, specially in Cardiac Muscles.
    So I request you to highlight all these aspects of NOX so it will help people like me understand comprehensively. The video would be lengthy, I know, but if that what it takes. Do it in the name of all that is pure and good in this world, as your way of explaining with illustration makes a very dry biochemistry, seems like a breath of fresh air. But hey. That's just me.
    Once again. Thank you very much for all your efforts. I'm sure good things will happen to you as a good Karma.

    Very helpful explanation! I heard about AGEs causing premature aging and was concerned. It's helpful to know that this is a normal process and is only a problem when you eat too much carbs. Is there any validity to the idea of "food combining". e.g. not eating carbs with fat or carbs with protein. Does eating them together cause more AGEs to form?

      This is mainly a discussion of some of the biochemical effects of hyperglycaemia. It's not a video on fad diets.

      ​@@MiataBRGThe answer is, yes; it would so follow, and the level of AGEs would be dependent on whether the carb was consumed in a fibre lattice or free glucose, or fructose. Any "fad diet" can be analysed for its biochemical relevance in an AGE context.
