- Since I got Celestial with Axl, a lot of people have asked me how to deal with the character's fullscreen zoning tactics and his powerful anti-air combos. This guide should help you learn the matchup and get in on Axl players more effectively!

Not having a traditional airdash as faust hurts vs Axl
Use double jump instead airdash with Faust or the Rod from far away to punish
@@Lanzetsu Rod is waaaay too slow in the Axl matchup. Axl is either Faust's worst matchup or second worst after Chipp.
If the Axl is throwing a lot of Rensen punish with scarecrow. Your best get in tool I believe is j2k as much as it's a meme move for how bad it is in Strive, it changes the Arc of your approach dramatically and gets you in. Super jump into dash swim then dive with j2k or jump into j2k immediately etc to vary it. Mix that with running in on the ground.
If the Axl is offensive and jumping at you try to run under or jHS air to air. Save your meter for scarecrow to get in (S scarecrow block/hit Red RC or S scarecrow cancel RC into command grab)

I can’t remember which game it was. I want to say it was SF4, but you could change the voice of each character individually, which I thought was an amazing thing to do. Because I loved having japanese ryu and American ken. I also prefer sagats American voice as well.
Sfv is the latest game with this exact thing, and I haven’t seen any other game do it since...

It's kind of funny how the Korean dub is getting more air time than the English dub

Axl’s english voice is easily the worst, no hate to octopimp
One thing to note: You don’t want to block the air Rensen follow up but FDing it is very good. You are still a bit minus but due to Axl’s slow buttons and the throw invul you might as well be plus.
You covered this, but at the beginner level, the number one thing that helped me is to look for Axl to whiff a button/special move, then just run the hell in and block.
You (and the Axl player, probably) will be surprised how close you can get before he recovers from most things, especially if you use the dash macro.
of course this video comes out *after* you get to celestial :P

Great vid! Wondering if you have any additional tips if you play I-No? Unfortunately because of her dash always putting her in the air it removes that as a potential approach option against Axl. Also her air dash angles her downwards which tends to put her right into the 'smack me with the sickle' zone! Hahaha! Right now I try to use Stroke the Tree as an alternative to dash when on the ground and focus more on double jumps when trying to move in, every once and a while throwing a psycho crusher in there to change my approach angle.

@@Acryte I think he's saying use Slidehead to punish him if he uses another grounded attack.
@@jmcrofts You said dash in ways X, Y, Z. Potemkin doesn't have access to those X, Y, Z, dashes. Hammerfall isn't unstoppable by Axel, and Slidehead is only a knockdown. I don't think it even does damage.

I am at 9F…I play Faust. I have not ran into many Axel’s, but when I do, getting into range 0 against them, they are not to good at blocking…but extremely good on offense.I guess they are not accustomed to opponents getting into range 0, so it’s hard to adjust to blocking, but again, I haven’t fought many Ax’s. Great guide, this is needed. I will keep this in my mem bank.
I main Axl and honestly he doesn't have many options up close. His 5K is his fastest normal and 5P is slightly slower. So usually a 5K 2K mix into dust is all he's got. Or he can YellowRC to get his footing back.

I noticed that you can teleport with nago when axl uses 5p , 2p for some reason
When Nago teleports his hitbox becomes similar to his crouching state. So you can dash under 5P (at some distances) and 6K. You can't dash through 2P.
now how does nago get in? I can only assume I have to sacrifice blood to do so.
Not all the rensen followups are extremely minus, he can delay the explosion and be much better on block.

As nago when you block and have meter you can fukyou (235k) into blue dash rc and you can cover full screen pretty much
I am not (yet) an axl player but what about jump back j.S? Seems to me like a good option when you're at mid range
It’s a very good option, but it has a blind spot when the enemy is close to you. So keep an eye out if you think they’re going to run in to get under your j.S. Also it can combo into j.214H at the right ranges, otherwise it can still work as a natural frametrap but it’s very minus on block.
@@ZhouTie47 Hes talking about IAD back j.S which covers close range approaches. Makes the opponent feel more forced to jump to approach you. j.S and his 2H are great pressure tools to force reactions

I assume this "just dash" stuff works so some extent, but couldn't you have chosen a more regular run speed character to show these things with? I can't really take this seriously when you show the example with Gio's instant dash.

As a Level 3700 Axl player this advice alone carried me because it made everyone else not realize Axl can in fact jail you into another Rensen! It's around +19 😅 Also talking about a zoner without discussing his chip damage? Damn no wonder I've been cooking. Y'all were taught wrong

I don't even think this May has some godly knowledge about this matchup. He just kept altering his approach and you guessed wrong enough times that he took the win. May vs Axl is so frustrating because literally all the power is in Axl's hands. If Axl loses it's because he messed up, there's no proactive pressure May can apply. She just has to keep running in and hope she can juke the Axl. If she does get in she absolute has to 100-0 Axl or neutral gets reset to full screen, if she gets hit at any point while going in neutral gets reset to full screen. Fighting Axl is just an exercise in frustration, winning vs him is cathartic, not fun.
May downplayers on a whole other level man.

For pot players, flick the rensen and hf(b) in. And if u didint know, if they wake up super and u block the first hit u can jump over the second and BUSTAAAH hes ass. Also every hkd u get, do hf(b). Dont mf

Is all a problem character for the community?? He’s the only character I understand and I don’t think he’s that broken, like solid 7/10 in comparison to the top tier characters in strive. I wouldn’t think beating him would need a break down
Some characters require specific match-up knowledge, that doesn't mean they are particularly strong. Blanka has pretty much never been high tier in mainline SF games but you still have to study the match-up to beat him.
