    #Kang #Marvel
So picture this: you have a new big bad in the MCU that has the potential to eclipse the Mad Titan Thanos.
This villain is so powerful that he’s essentially unkillable because there are infinite versions of his throughout the multiverse.
    Doug: oh tell me more
This villain has an interesting motivation, and he already won and conquered the entire multiverse and ruled it as a god.
Doug: who is this amazing-are you listening to me?
    No…what were you saying?
Doug: who is this amazing sound guy?
    This is Kang the Conquer.
    Doug [disappointed]: Oh
A villain who had the makings of the MCU’s best villain. And yet…. somewhere along the way, Kang lost all of his momentum. Somehow, the Darth Vader of the Multiverse saga was demoted to Snoke.
And this is made far more egregious after the introduction of the High Evolutionary in Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3, a villain who’s easily one of the MCU’s best.
Doug: So why Kang isn’t as good as him?
Well let me see if I can explain what went wrong with Kang, what Marvel is doing wrong, and attempt to fix this broken multiversal boy. And I think there is a way for Kang to be one of the best MCU villains. Now, next I - (on phone)
Doug: what are you doing on your phone?
Now, back to Kang. So, one thing before we start.
The Jonathan Majors real-life situation has nothing to do with the Kang problems. That stuff is very serious and still ongoing, so let’s focus only on the character the actor is portraying.
Alright, there are 4 major problems with Kang. So let’s go over each one of them, and then how Marvel can learn from these mistakes and fix Kang.
When the MCU initially introduced us to Kang, he was presented as the most powerful being we have ever seen in this franchise.
He’s a multiversal ruler who literally lives in a castle that observes time itself.
He knows it all, he has seen it all. And he manipulates time basically like a god.
He even has the tech that turns the Infinity Stones into [paper weights].
This is a very good introduction.
This Kang is He Who Remains. One of many variants of Kang.
    Doug: Variants?
Those are other versions of people from other universes.
This persona explains that eons ago he won a multiversal war against all the other Kangs. He saved reality from his variants by erasing them and their timelines from existence. So this one Kang has already killed all the other Kangs.
After winning the war, he created a new separate universe called the sacred timeline. He ruled every moment in time. He literally had a script for everything that happened and will happen.
He enforced the timeline to ensure that his variants will never return to threaten the multiverse.
Doug: I miss the days when a purple guy just wanted to collect a bunch of colorful magic rocks
Yes, the multiverse worldbuilding is very ambitious compared to the Infinity Saga. At times too ambitious for its own good, to the point it becomes tediously convoluted storytelling.
During this Kang’s long exposition dump, he keeps telling Loki and Sylvie about the dangers of his variants. How they are far worse than him, and how they’re the true threat to the multiverse.
And we eventually meet one of these other personas in Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania.
This variant is Kang the Conqueror. That was confirmed by Marvel.
In his initial introduction, Kang appears as a truly menacing and fascinating villain.
In those conversations with Janet, we can see that this is a multi-layered character, someone who’s motivated by a misguided god complex to save reality from himself.
The scene when Kang meets Scott and Cassie, and basically force-pushes everyone - gave me some Darth Vader vibes. I really love this Kang in these two scenes.
But then, it all starts falling apart.

The thing that makes Thanos better than our current Kang.
Is that we're shown Thanos defeat the majority of the avengers multiple times, while we're told Kang has killed the avengers multiple times, but we're just told this.

Thanos was all show don't tell. Even when he was just sitting there Thanos had already shown his power by lending Loki a portion of his army. Kang has been nothing but telling. It is told to us than Kang is this big threat. Instead of showing us Kang destroying the Avengers at the start of Ant-man. That he has conquered multiple timelines. Show it show us him conquering. Even if this Kang loses to Ant-man it sets the bar that this Kang was the one thrown away for being the weakest most power hungry Kang. If that Kang could defeat multiple Avengers teams at his height what would a threat level be for a whole army of them?

This is my theory from the very beginning. Upcoming Avengers movies should be about moral compass.
Current main MCU heroes fighting against OG heroes who saved everybody in Endgame (from another universe) would be speechlessly emotional and then realizing how the time machine was a point to save the universe from Thanos but also to accidentally create even bigger threat (Kang killing entire universes like nothing) would be mind-blowing.

This shit is so convoluted and overly complicated. This multiverse thing only works if they create reboots-an Ultimate universe, for example. Across the Spiderverse is a great example.
It hasn’t worked the way they’ve tried doing it in the MCU. It just diminishes the effect of what came before.
The sacred timeline should simply be the only timeline where Thanos lost and thus Earth could thrive properly. As according to Dr Strange. Hence the importance of preserving it from further time travel shenanigans. Tony’s death and the end of Endgame should’ve meant something permanent.

This is my main issue with the multiverse thing in the first place. They're trying to up the scale with the multiverse when ultimately, the concept itself no matter how entertaining or compelling the stories have been in past comics were really just a means of tidying up continuity issues or give us what if scenarios.
Ultimately I think without a core issue like this the multiverse is a narrative tool with no real hook to keep us invested.

I think a big problem with showing all the Kang variants in the Council of Kangs is that even members of the audience who've never heard of it understand the trope known as the Conservation of Ninjutsu. That's a term that, unsurprisingly, comes from martial arts movies. If the martial arts movie hero is walking down the street and a single ninja emerges from the shadows, we've been conditioned to understand that we're about to see an epic fight where the hero, even if they win, will struggle and suffer to do so. However, if in that same scene suddenly thirty ninjas emerge from every shadow and sewer and rooftop, we understand that the hero is going to easily plow right through them, often taking individuals out with a single punch or kick.

I like the idea of He Who Remains being the Ultimate Big Bad. The Victor Timely idea has promise as one of the installments of him. But I think they could potentially go further. Like maybe what if they got the youngest version of him aka Iron Lad at one point. He fights one of the variants with The Young Avengers or The Champions, is forced to return to the future. And somehow the various interactions the MCU characters have with He Who Remains over the course of the saga eventually determines how the Multiverse Saga ends. Like will they get Ultimate Conquer Kang or will they get Who Remains and bring things back to the loop the close things again albeit slightly differently in the unified timeline with new characters like The X-Men and other characters that might exist from other timelines that might've been rescued from the Incursions.
side note: i think i remember seeing a title for Avengers Incursion a year or two ago. but I think what i saw was probably one of those fan titles that people make that easily get spread around and hyped a bunch without knowing the true source that some people take as gospel as an actual thing.

He can even have trinkets like Thor’s hammer or other items from characters who might die in the next Avengers movie. Then Ant-Man will be beating and almost losing to an already broken Kang. Janet even says when she is explaining to Hope and Hank that she already gave him to much back. His suit. So I think if he escaped his tech would level him up. Once he got access to it. He could basically teleport like He Who Remained. Obviously he can freeze people in time. Like he did with Janet. I do agree that He Who Remains is the real threat and Kang "losing" is all part the plan. I think that Kang got sucked into the beyond and this is where he discovered Aliath then once he has learnt how to escape the beyond he returns as He Who Remains.

It only just occurred to me that Kang's losses are not anticipated by Kang. Those experiences only exist as data for the next Kangs to use for the encounters that are before them. That means that Kang, just like Loki, is destined to lose every time. He's only a foil for the true savior of existence & eternity. That play technically would've to go on into infinity (just like universes, multiverses, etc...).

The “stupid ants” argument is the weakest argument and shows people aren’t paying attention. Those ants were already massively advanced creating their own tech. I disagree completely. Ant man's squad is nothing to joke about. Plus technically advanced ants and modok to break his shield (which we saw break earlier when the time engine blew up with Janet) the reason this version lost is he wanted to humiliate Scott after his empire was taken down by a rebellion, like most villains he monologues instead of insta killing all of them including Janet who I'm sure he's got way more hate towards, that would've been a boring way to kill off beloved fan favorites too. I think he should've killed OG Ant Man and Scott and Hope do the same ending but the weight of the movie at least has stakes, plus it would've been Janet paying for her decision in blood, (Michael Douglas doesn't want to do any more movies anyways) and it would've tied MCU with comics books because Ant-Man dies in the comics and it's a Big hit to The Avengers. I do think the ending keeps it open for how deadly this Kang is, the cake Scott eats is terrible and GREEN. After rewatching I really like this as a stand alone MCU movie even tho Cassie's acting sucks 😭

I have always thought that an easy way to keep him in the background as a threat is to have him recruit some heroes. Like there are those like Ajax probably who know the threat the Celestials present. There are even people like StarLord who might agree, or even people like Strange who sees the threat of incursions.
But yeah part of the current issue is that they went and put him in Quantumania when he should just stay on Loki for now or mid credit scenes. Because especially because the bad guys of the Antman movies always kind of seem forgettable. Which is fine for the people's hero. I think they can fix this in sort of reverse. Like have Cassie show up in some other thing because Scott and Hope never came back and they aren't in the Quantum realm but she can tell they are alive via the suits. But because Kang was able to trap them in the time loop he threatened Scott with at the start of the movie.

      @Native2Earth Před 11 měsíci

@@lukesenter1559 Exactly. ScreenCrush is looking at it from a subconscious level about the sight of kang looking defeat-able. Yet sometimes being different works in the end. Ant man 3 is underrated but there’s a reason it’s the first of phase 5. I also believe it sets up a future villain.
I think after avengers 6, dr doom (introduced as a villain in the fantastic 4 movie) redeems himself as an anti hero having defeated Kang with the help of the hulk but actually turns evil at the hands of ultimate power granted by the Beyonder. However….. from the negative zone, a space inside the quantum realm, comes the product of the Ants civilization created accidentally when dr pym entered the realm but mutated when the leader ant was blasted by kang and had been restored using technology found in the realm specifically a piece of a machine MODOK was investigating in an attempt to fix himself which turns out to be the half body of Ultron sent to the quantum realm when pym particles fell onto the rubbish in avengers tower during thanos invasion. Once the ants body was fused to Ultrons body a new mutation of insect and machine was born and out comes Annihilalus obsessed with preserving his life in an attempt to stage revenge against all Vertebrates that dominate the universe. And give rise to the other phylum of life across the new unified galaxy.

Not to mention the unstoppable weight of millions of gigantic, super intelligent ants attacking him; which the guy in this video stated in another video that he made around the same time would have totally owned Kang and would be terrifying under any circumstances.
Also, the ability to fight a conventional war against a large foe does not mean that you are capable of beating a small foe; You simply have to look at United States war history over the last 100 years for evidence of this. The United States has routinely engaged much smaller, weaker people, and nations that we could destroy hundreds of times over and yet we have been beaten back and defeated by these people.... This isn't just a United States issue as history is littered with evidence of this with other great military powers. Remember he also referred to himself as “conquerer” in that episode. There’s a reason he was able to beat every other Kang in the first place, so no way Sylvia was just able to kill him like it was nothing (even though she couldn’t even touch him in the elevator). I’m just not sure what reason he would have to get killed and restart the war besides being bored that all the conquering is finished and wants to do it all again

The main problem with Kang is that he appeard in Quantumania which was shrunk into a 1 hour movie where it should've been two hours long. I think there was more story to tell in Quantumania both for Ant man and Kang as well.

I think Quantumania would have worked just as fine with the same run time but without a real resolution. Have Kang stay in the Quantum Realm without losing to Scott. Just have Hope stun or blind Kang momentarily while she pulls Scott out of the Quantum Realm as Kang is about to finish him off and you've given a half-resolution that's still pretty satisfying without damaging Kang's credibility too much

I'm personally fine with the main Kang being introduced straight-up. Adds a nice contrast to the slow burn we got of Thanos. However, the, I agree that Ant-Man 3 dropped the ball regarding the threat of Kang.
The biggest change I would make is Kang getting out of the Quantum Realm (QR), just without his army and with his suit damaged. Hank is killed trying to protect Janet. Hope and Scott should also be stuck in the QR to get out later during the big battle in F4 or Avengers 5. This would still cement Kang as a looming threat in the MCU, since he obviously unwavering in his cause and has the intellect to back it up, but since the tech in the 21st century isn't up to snuff, he has to be creative and resourceful to get his tech back into a workable condition.
