LeBron James is a great man. The social justice work LeBron has been responsible for in America is something to be applauded, and through his charities LeBron has contributed good to this world. However, the enormous unabashed blatant hypocrisy he showed in the wake of Darly Morey's tweet that showed his support for the Hong Kong Protests was very disappointing. For LeBron James to call Daryl Morey selfish and uneducated and "only thinking of himself" for standing up for Hong Kongers' human rights is truly pathetic. LeBron is clearly being motivated by the financial incentive good relations with China presents to him, and was thus willing to sacrifice his integrity to try and shut down Darly Morey for supporting a social justice issue. LeBron just can't say no to that sweet CCP money being sent his way from China. Real social justice advocates, like Martin Luther King Jr, Muhammed Ali, or even Maya Moore, would be disappointed in LeBron's hypocrisy. We thought you were a better man than that LeMickey.

Hong Konger here. Great content! Can't imagine how much effort you have put on learning the situation in Hong Kong. You understand the CCP more thoroughly than some people in Hong Kong.
I was impressed by his playoffs performance in 2016 and 2018 but never one of his fans. Since his comment on what Daryl Morey have said, he loses my respect on him.
Btw, glad to see people from other places supporting Hong Kong and whay we are fighting for. FREEDOM.

It's not just that this guy doesn't have anything to lose but that he has so much to gain... There's a lot of financial incentive behind the wokeness when Nike, Facebook, Gillette, Twitter, and a slew of other big brands get behind the talking points and consistently claim to stand for the oppressed while systemmatically working against them.
It bothers me so much that bron only talks about the injustices against us but won't even mention china at this point they're human too

I knew as soon as I saw the title what this video was. This was really well put together and I'm glad I found your channel a few months ago.
It makes me boil hearing Lebron was more of an activist then Ali, Jim Brown,Bill Russell and others. Lebron just tweets , those other guys where going on networks debating, protesting, I've never seen lebron do anything but tweet ..smh
He’s very disingenuous as well with it all. Making it a point to walk around with Malcolm X’s biography & making sure everyone sees him reading it & bringing it to interviews. He’s then asked about his favorite parts & it’s blatantly obvious he never read the book as he gives every cliche answer you can think of “just how strong he was & the powerful messages he conveyed” what?? So you never actually read the book is what your saying lol. Nothing specific or full of any details ugh
Mfers act like a tweet makes a difference
@@thetruth72667I get you, but Malcolm x was a racist.
I don't know how I'm just finding these, but they're absolutely brilliantly made. You don't find many capable of meshing basketball with political/ human rights issues 😊
Cheers mate
LeBron James says his friends call him a Bum.
I believe him.
HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE CCP!! Nice video
Damn only 4.3k views? Very well made video man. Keep up the hard work
Thanks dude
Hong Konger-Australian here. I want to commend you on your Hong Kong history lesson!
Also, if LeBron James stood with HK, then he could've for once gained fans from BOTH sides of the political spectrum. From what I've seen in Australia, there is pretty much no controversy in announcing their support for HK in a casual situation.
Unless when you're around Chinese students, which I don't blame them for being like my dad - educated by the Chinese government from birth to be filled with hatred. (don't worry, my dad eventually escaped the brainwashing, and was the one who told me the terrifying education system of the Chinese government)
Thanks for that man. Something I certainly hoped to do with this video was to educate people on what's going on with China and HK, and why LeBron's comments are so bad. As a classic white Australian with no personal ties to Asia, I'm glad to hear I didn't fuck up talking about a different country's history and politics.
@@RedThunder For me I came from the other direction. I'm not a fan of basketball, so LeBron James' comments on HK was the first time I actually knew the guy existed. Your video actually made me respect LeBron James a lot more, now that I understand he isn't just "some punk with a bad mouth" - instead he seems to have done so many genuinely good things! However it also made his comments on the protest movement that will determine how safe I will be when visitng family, hit much harder now that I understood his basketball and social activism background.
Can I ask which state, and if you're willing to share, which city you're living in?
@@kaihang4685 Ah ok that's pretty interesting. Yeah I'm a massive NBA fan, but have also always had an interest in history- particularly of other countries, including China. When LeBron's comments came out I already a relatively good understanding (from a foreigner's perspective) of stuff within China's history over the past couple centuries, such as with the opium wars, the revolution, the civil war, and also had been somewhat following the protests in HK. So when he made those comments, I feel like I probably had a better understanding of the context between China and HK than your average westerner, and thus was even more disgusted by his comments. But it was probably the unfathomable hypocrisy that shocked me, considering the numerous times in previous years how he's said he doesn't care about the backlash for his support for social issues, that everyone should be able to speak on what matters, etc etc.
Also, I live in Melbourne at the moment for university study, although I'm actually from a farm in western rural Victoria.
This video was well put together. This whole subject has been running through my mind for months. Very well done. 👏
I'm a Cleveland guy, born and raised. I love LeBron, and have always. It hurt when he left the first time and second. I will always love the guy, because of what he did for us, and it wasn't anything that someone outside of Cleveland could ever understand. That said, his stance has always fucked me up, and the video is absolutely spot on that he carefully crafts his image to make him out to be an activist and he comes off as a massive hypocrite. This wasn't even the first time, he also did the same thing about Africa when he had an African teammate who was protesting something. There was another time too, but I don't remember the context.
Anyway, great video. I don't think that I'll ever not like LBJ, it's a tribalism thing at this point, but I also am glad that people like you called him out on it.
Nice video bro. Just Ignore the haters and dislikes. Literally Shannon disagreeing with how Bron handled it should be proof enough to people
Thanks man. Unfortunately I think most haters of this video just saw title and disliked without watching anything, and wouldn't have made it to Shannon's part

No wonder people were saying “SHUT UP AND DRIBBLE”
I'm a huge LeBron James fan, he's the goat to me, player and person, no one can convince me otherwise. But I lost a lot of respect for LeBron after his China statement. And also I'm not black so his black supremacy rather than equality stuff does grind my gears a bit but fair enough I don't know what it's like to be young black man in USA. I was already a subscriber, love your content mate , I'll enjoy watching this one keep up the good work. I know you'll get a lot of hate for this one
Thanks my man. I WAS a relatively decent LeBron fan, but after seeing how he handled the China controversy, I just kinda felt like "Well fuck this guy"
You can have white supremacy.
From a black perspective, I don't recall Asians supporting black social justice neither do we need it.
It is stupid and dumb to request LeBron to condemn China. It is just not our f*** problem.
That's true, but that doesn't change the fact that LeBron is a massive hypocrite. How many times has he said how it's so important for him to have his platform to be able to speak freely on sensitive social issues and stand for what's right? But then when a colleague of his does the exact same thing except for a different group of people, LeBron publicly calls him uneducated and to stop using his free speech. That's ridiculously hypocritical and he deserves to be called out for it
@@RedThunder LeBron is only passionate about American issues. As African I am not offended that king James does not take a stance on African issues. Morey can frely express himself but He does not have the right to use the NBA's platform without LeBron consent period.
Why don't you attack the Chinese government ? You want to use a boring old tactic by blaming of attacking a black man.
You are a coward.
@@mohameddiallo400 You obviously didn't watch my video bro. I spend about 15 minutes going into detail on all the bad shit China do and what they're doing with Hong Kong. Although this is an NBA channel, I was actually trying to raise awareness and educate people about the situation with China and HK, who otherwise don't know that much about it- such as your fine self- so that they can better understand why LeBron's comments were so bad.
And furthermore, LeBron is still a hypocrite and coward for telling Morey not to speak on a social issue

He’s just like most democratic politicians, where he does some good things, but a massive hypocrite in other areas and is really mostly there for the money. You have to give credit where credit is due, but it’s also healthy to criticize our leaders or idols and ask them to do better. It’s not like everything they’ve ever said or done is moot just because they don’t openly support your issue. But he’s not someone who just denies there are any problems ever and says everything is ok across the board. He’s not the kind of asshole who would deny systemic racism of African-Americans. And I’m not giving him a pass, but I’m also not going to completely dismiss his contributions to his community. Hope my point is clear. Anyway haven’t watched the video yet so my opinion may change.
I basically completely agree with that sentiment, although maybe I was slightly more harsh on him

So its wrong for lebron to stand for his people because he won't help China? but its ok for the Chinese who stand for their people to not stand for lebrons people ok? I mean it really wasn't their problem so...Hong Kong is only one small part of what chinas doing. theyve also imprisoned a million minorities & farm their organs so they can sell to the rich. way worse than you can imagine
@@kevinodom2918 About 1/3 of the video is dedicated to talking about why China bad so I am well aware. But dude nonetheless, LeBron is still a hypocrite. He basically said his colleague should not use his freedom of speech for speaking on sensitive social issues. As somebody who is detached from both the situation in America and Hong Kong and therefore not biased one way or another, to me that is just objectively unfathomably hypocritical- no matter which way you spin it.
Push the opposite of love? Um, ok.
That boycott didn’t last too long huh
This is one of the reasons why he isn’t the 🐐
Great work, man. I don’t know much about the China-Hong Kong situation so I think it would be great if you were to put your sources in the description.
I also found it interesting that Lebron changed his stance on restarting the playoffs so soon after the Jacob Blake shooting, and chances are that it was because of financial reasons, but I believe that restarting the playoffs does more (and did more) for social justice because it gives the players a platform to talk about the issues they care about, whereas they wouldn’t be in the spotlight otherwise. So while it was almost certainly due to financial reasons, you could argue that they decided to restart it to be able to give more attention to social issues.
I agree it was the best choice for them to keep playing in regards to promoting social justice. It was part of the reason I was so perplexed when the initial reports that players wanted season cancelled came out
Also regarding the sources. To be honest I'm sorry but I probably can't be bothered going back to them. In any case, most of what I said I simply got from Wikipedia, which lists its sources if you were keen. And I do use a heap of screenshots of articles throughout the video that support what I'm saying. So those are also effectively my sources. But nothing I said, at least regarding the protests, is particularly controversial I don't think, as that's basically just what's happening happening
@@RedThunder Well speaking as a Hong Konger-Australian who closely followed the movement from 9th of June 2019 from Sydney, I think that's a pretty spot-on summarisation on Hong Kong's situation!
I hope Lebron gets his swept by Steph this year in the playoffs , the underdogs

Spoiled brats who think they are worth something.
They are just clowns playing games.
He will always be in MJ’S shadow Mike turned his team into a 6 time championship team. Lebomb left his team to find superstars cause he couldn’t lead the team he had.
You all being triggered about China doesn’t make LeBron a hypocrite for speaking on legitimate issues facing his community.

Make a video on the Gar- Pax era like u did the Jim boylen please that video was so good also Stop hating on Lebron it’s the reason why ur channel isn’t quite flourishing as I imagine u wish it would be
I still probably will eventually, it just won't be for a few months yet as I've got a bunch of other video ideas I'd like to work on first. And as my turnaround time on making videos is quite long as I'm busy with life outside of CZcams, that'll be a while before those ideas have been knocked out. The only issue with the Garpax video is that it's quite a niche video for Bulls fans and isn't as relevant to the general NBA fan as the Jim Boylen one was.
And I think I've got quite a few pro-LeBron vids on this channel too tbh
I still think Lebron is the greatest basketball player ever. He is not a leader. He can lead a basketball team or a black movement. A true leader leads humanity and he doesnt want that he leads what is fairly easy to lead. He acts like a politician he wont say or do anything against the grain if it cost him $$
I think lbj was saying uneducated referring to Darryl not knowing what he could of done to the relationship between the nba and China, not about the situation as a whole and also you said that DM’s tweet almost severed the relationship between the nba and China so imagine what would happened if arguably the most popular b-ball player of all time publicly
Denounces the gov, I’m not saying that it wouldn’t be right to do so but he’s not just think about it
Maybe. But LeBron is still the guy who's said "I'll continue speaking out for what's right in both America and around the world" and also tweeted Martin Luther King's quote of "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere". He's still a hypocrite on social justice

Dude I'll respond to this comment as CZcams automatically removed the other one when I tried approving it. The main issue (and hypocritical part) isn't necessarily that LeBron didn't support the Hong Kong protests. It's the fact that he went out of his way to publicly disapprove of Daryl Morey's support for the protests. LeBron has said numerous times how fortunate he is for being able to use his platform to voice his support for social issues that matter. But when a colleague of his tries doing the same thing, just because the social issue he's supporting doesn't impact LeBron, he chooses to come into the media and basically tries to shut Darly Morey up. Saying that Darly is uneducated and selfish for supporting a human rights movement. Dude seriously, even if you agree with LeBron's decision not to voice support for the HK protests- that's fine; but how can you say it ain't hypocritical to try and shut his colleague up after they supported a contentious social movement- that's exactly what LeBron has been doing for years.
@@RedThunder did u know what the hong kong protests were about? Insurrection. A straight coup d'etat. Daryl Morey who is part of LeBron's I guess circle, fully supported that without actually reading into it. And in part, so are you. Since the brawn is not a politician mind you he can't fully support insurrection of a sovereign Nation regardless of what his platform or beliefs are. Not even American politicians that are in office weighed in too much on it, and it would be detrimental to LeBron's image as well as career as well as the NBA's image and their future if they were to stick their neck out for a conflict between a nation and its people. This is entirely different than LeBron weighing in on matters of his own national security and his own African-American people. Many athletes have done this in the past extremely similar to LeBron: Bill Russell in 78 Muhammad Ali during the Vietnam war, many Olympic African American Brothers. They all have spoken for their own country and what they believe their country should do or shouldn't do. Never have they crossed the line like Daryl Morey did, and LeBron is just trying to warn him that that will end his career for doing so.
Edit: it's not his platform mane, he got no mic here. Also don't mislead with the title man that's why ppl yet mad at you bro

He just a puppet I can't blamed him he get millions of dollars by being puppet thats good
Why is he the only one that doesn’t get a technical for slapping the backboard all the time?
Also side note, he faked a hate crime so I don’t think he’s a very good role model especially when spreading fear mongering misinformation of black people being hunted.
You had Kareem over LeBron 😂
I mean yeah. 6 rings, 6 MVPs, most points scored in history
@@RedThunder in a time period where the competition wasn't as great, he didn't really win until he got to LA with Magic (apart from 1971), but even then, he got fed up and left just like LeBron. Mvps, sure I'll give you that. But most points of all time doesn't mean best scorer, just that he played for a long time, so it loses a bit of merit. He's one of the greats, but number 2 or 3 is just a bit excessive. Great video though man, I'm a huge fan!

CCP will rule the world!
I’m sorry but you can call Lebron a hypocrite if you want but the issue here is the dissociation with the black community in North America...majority of us have grown up feeling he have a boot on our necks (figuratively and literally) and most know it’s rare for anyone to be looking out for us let alone acknowledge our struggle.
Saying Lebron sold out for money and using it to bad mouth him I feel coincides with the lack of being black because if you know any better you know not only Lebron but plenty of these black NBA players give back greatly to their black communities...how would that be possible with much less money? It’s easy to say “this or that player should’ve boycotted and gave up money” but the repercussions would have been much more dire to our race as a whole. Athletes and entertainers are some of the richest our race has to offer so when their wells run dry it would affect the black community as a whole. Also plenty of players were/are not even making that much money to begin with so them taking a financial hit from boycotting would also negatively impact them in the long run, something else players that get paid much more also had to take into consideration.
As for the China debacle, yes Lebron’s comments are hypocritical but who cares...I notice it’s mostly white/non black people supporting the shit out of this vid and I see that as a lack of acknowledgment. Lebron is more focused on taking care of his own backyard regardless of him quoting Martin Luther King or whoever. I’ve never seen any form of outcry from Hong Kong about black issues in North America but nobody will call them hypocrites. There’s Hong Kong citizens screaming for justice and freedom but I’ve personally never seen any of them supporting us over here. Why is it only counted one way?
Why in the world should Lebron cut off money that he’s funnelling into helping his people for people that have never shown to give a shit about his outside of entertainment, in fact plenty of Chinese/Hong Kong people are racist towards black people (Black Panther is the lowest grossing movie out of all recent MCU movies over there for a reason). In fact iPromise School has free housing for families who’s kids go to the school, why should Lebron jeopardize that for people that probably wouldn’t give a shit about those families. Cmon man, yes Lebron is hypocritical, tbh I’m a big fan (you can call me bias) but I don’t find Lebron to be the smartest of people in the world outside of basketball and business. He may not have used the best words in his own fight for OUR people but I find how he went about it justified, until Hong Kong natives and celebrities begin protesting for us at least...
Lmao some people just don't get it
@Hamidaddy I support what he does for my people because who else is going to support us? Hong Kong? Yet you non black people want Lebron to give it up and sacrifice taking away from our people to suit yourself...when Lebron is one of the most philanthropic people in North America when it comes to giving back to his community, the money he’d lose out from speaking out against China (which would literally accomplish nothing) would take away from what he’s doing in his own backyard.
It’s very easy for you ignorant weirdos to speak so freely on the situation with absolutely none of the responsibility while being ignorant to what it’s like to be in the position. I say Lebron is hypocritical due to his lack of awareness saying general things like “injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere” it’s clear that his fight is mainly for his people so it shouldn’t be a broad term but it still shouldn’t take away from the countless things he does for my people.
I ask you what would be the point of Lebron speaking out against China other than pleasing people like you’s comfort levels? What would him speaking out accomplish other than a negative outcome? You people love moral ambiguity as long as it’s on your terms. If I live in a community and I have publicly stated everyone deserves safety and I’ll do what I can to enforce it and a murderer attacks the community I’m sorry but my household would be my first focus and if protecting others jeopardizes my families safety then I’m solely focusing on my family.
As I’ve said plenty of times in this comment section Lebron shouldn’t be morally obligated to support people that have never supported his people which would in turn jeopardize taking care of his own. I’d rather at least my people be better off than both North American black folk and Hong Kong natives being fucked together because I guarantee you that Lebron speaking out would do absolutely nothing and you personally don’t have an answer for what it would accomplish either but it’s easy to call out the black man for not going out of his way for people that don’t care about his people. Yes I damn well support him in THIS situation regardless of his overall hypocrisy because it’s not as “black and white” as you people keep pretending it to be.
@@RedThunder the irony of this statement is quite laughable, ignorance isn’t bliss...

I hadn't thought anything of it. Thought it was pretty acceptable. Do you reckon it comes off a little racisty?
@@RedThunder no there’s nothing wrong with it it’s just uncommon to hear it, at least in America
idk maybe a foreign born white man shouldn't be talking about American social justice and how an American cultural leader should be talking about it
Idk maybe the colour of my skin doesn't have any bearing on the validity of my arguments
@@RedThunder but it does you’re not black and don’t understand the experience...I’d never speak on how Jews choose to act in regards to the Holocaust compared to how they deal with other things in the world...your race matters in this conversation 100% if you believe it doesn’t that’s a problem 😕

Another reason I don't like LeBron anymore because last year he made a death threat to a Police Officer in Columbus Ohio for doing the right thing.
If that was my Uncle Tony? I would demand for his removal from The NBA. LeBron is such a Woman.
Micheal Jordan > LeBron James.
Educated Lebron oxymoron.
😐
Lebron is actually right about Morey regard about Hong Kong, here is why,
If you really look into what is happening about Hong Kong, it is not about Democracy or Freedom.
These are not peaceful protesters, these are violent rioters, the police are armed, not to suppress ralliers, but defend themselves from violent mob of rioters, these mob are not out protesting for freedom, they're pleasing the Western NGOs insighting to violence, even to innocent Hong Kongers.
Even to speak "Mandarin" or "Cantonese" is too dangerous, because Chinese people are being targeted as pro-China and getting beat ip, simply because they're from Mainland, even though they're not pro-China nor Pro-Democracy. This is one of the reasons why China implemented the National Security Law, because instead of coming to resolution, they're destorying the City.
I am not pro-China nor siding with the Chinese government.
But to spread LIES to attack an enemy who LIES is very suicidal.
And saying they Lebron is defending China because of Money is pure stupid and unintelligent. If Lebron cared only about Money, he would have not made that statement.
You won’t get a response bro, I’ve told people over and over how the conflict over there is so far away from us we don’t understand the full situation in depth unless we’re directly in the fray.
I do believe the government of China is responsible for some messed up things but in regards to this specific situation I feel anyone from the outside should stay out of it as I’ve heard from people from mainland China and Hong Kong’s perspective and feel it’s not right to just pick sides as an outsider so I don’t see why these privileged white guys feel it was Lebron’s moral responsibility to do so.
This privileged white man is even trying to twist the narrative that Lebron out right picked China’s side over the fact of him sayin Daryl should’ve simply stayed out of it. What’s new though, a privileged white guy finding an excuse to vilify a minority celebrity that goes above and beyond for his own oppressed people in an attempt to discredit him 🤷🏾♂️
@@YungLanxx do you realize your statement is racist..even though you seem to support not being racist..just a thought
