Lol
except he is fully doing it on purpose

I have had those teachers.
me too
When I was a kid I had NESticle. I loved it, but could never figure out why the icon was a wad of gum with hairs in it.
it took me quite some time to figure out what the icon really was, and realizing that "NESticle" was a sort of a play on word with "Testicle"
Lnao
Stop lying, nesticle didn't have an icon, it was an ms-dos executable
@@LovelyAlanna it was also an application on a different computer, like Windows 95/8.
@@LovelyAlanna Stop being a douche, I clearly remember downloading it and using it in Win98 and by the time, it did have an icon. In fact, you can even see the icon in the thumbnail of the video
I remember the playsation had an emulator just called PNES
HMMMMMMMMM.....
What could it mean?? ~ Joel.
heyyy i remembered using it as well. Every games runs at 80% speed and the sound was rusty as shit.

Nestical is based in c+ using visual basic. Jnes is a C-SHARP using virtual basic.
Thanks for the spoilers
@@ghostunix731 what?
Wait where
@@ghostunix731The GUI is C++. The emulator itself is asm.
So, some trivia about this emulator and it's creators. This emulator was made by one Icer "Sardu" Addis of Bloodlust Software. Sardu created this, _Callus,_ (the CPS-1 emulator), and _Genecyst_ (the Sega Genesis emulator) on his own. His programs and their features, such as on-the-fly tile/color editing and movie playback, really helped shape the emulation scene.
It's really sad that he discontinued his projects because of the source code hacking incident with Donald "Mindrape" Moore. He truly was a pioneer of emulation and a damn good coder. I really enjoyed the Bloodlust Software games he and Ethan "Hellbent" (not _that_ one) Petty - whose name you may recognize from _Watch_Dogs_ - made, back on the 90s. I wonder what he's up to, these days. I never got the chance to meet him… or, give him my thanks.
*Side-note:* v0.31 of _NESticle_ is where things start getting more accurate, for the curious. In fact, several games that were tried here - _Battletoads, __-The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino and Hoppy-__ 7 Grand Dad, Jeopardy!_ - work fairly well in that version.
I love anecdotes like these, thanks for sharing!
Whats his deal with naming emulators by genitalia, anyways?
@@randomlolz4320early internet humor?
Basically, what random lolz said. Sadru and Ethan were post-High School students, at this time, and had previously worked on games with more blood, mutilation, and midgets, than _any Mortal Kombat_ game, almost-always played for laughs. Sometimes, though, these jokes went somewhere.
For example, Shitman - the self-proclaimed "the lord of the log" - was going to be a major antagonist in a Bloodlust Software run-and-gun game called "DisGRUNTled." I forget what his exact role was, but it had something to do with backing up the city's sewer system. The protagonists - two over-medicated old farts who broke out of their retirement home with Uzis - would have to gun him down. In the proof-of-concept demo, there's even a giant mound or volcano made of crap and filled with urine, though it doesn't do anything.
On a related note… if anyone's curious about Buddy, his (unofficial?) story can be found in the demo version of _TimeSlaughter._ He used to be a perfectly normal guy… but, after playing the _TimeSlaughter_ demo, he sold his Chess set and registered the game, after which his IQ "increased" by "100 fractions," and made him "very special," according to his mom. That kind of humor wouldn't fly, these days, but back in the 90s, it was god damn _hilarious!_
Oh so that's the dickweed that stole the source code
Reminds me of when Vinny did "Classic SNES Games (Just Like You Remembered Them)", in where he played SNES games on an absolutely ANCIENT ZSNES, and the sound and music sounded amazing. And by amazing, I mean all over the place, but mostly hilarious.

@@SmaMan watch?v=YunD4ZC0VL8
ItZed Having now watched a bit of the stream myself, yeah, the sound is pretty horrendous, though the video doesn’t really do justice to how crappy it really was back then on our puny little processors we had back then. It would’ve run at about 1/10 of the speed, on the average computer of the time it was released.
@ItZed Bsnes is pretty good!

Joel, skipping the shortcut in world 1-1: You guys wanna see a speedrun attempt? Alright, lets go.
They had this at my daycare when I was a kid. I got in trouble for finding Shitman.
8:36 Nesticle. A really old, broken emulator from 1997 that somehow emulates Super Mario Bros. 3 _without_ the column of mis-coloured tiles usually seen on the far right of the screen on not only other emulators, but Official Nintendo Software
Missing those tiles is technically inaccurate emulation, since the garbage is present on real hardware, but gets cropped off by older TVs. Emulating TV overscan would fix that right up.
@ENCRYPTED - are you talking to me or Vargskelethor?
@ENCRYPTED Oh awesome! What an unlikely place to find a fan 🙂
*I SEE NOW*
It doesn't. Look carefully and you'll see just that. Nevertheless the miscolored tiles appear on real hardware.
Whoever made that “Stream Time” animated background deserves the best things. It’s the best thing ever, I can’t stop smiling at it.

To be fair this was one guy not being paid to make it in the 90s. The fact it ran games this good at all is impressive.
Just go up to random persons in public and say "Grand Dad crashes Nesticle." and see how they react.
Maaaan, this game... I mean Emulator is made by Bloodlust Software, the makers of Timeslaughers! Thier works are so absurd, but beyond hilarious. I really would like to see their return. Because i haven't heard them for a while.
So yeah. Thank you, Shitman!
Did you know that Ethan "Hellbent" Petty works for Ubisoft, now? He was the lead writer for _Watch_Dogs._ He also has his own games going under the "Gnarled Scar Manipulations" company name. He finally got that "O'Sirus the Snip" game released, though only episode 1 is out, right now. No word in _TimeSlaughter 2,_ though.
@@JoLiKMC Holy shit... I stand corrected! Glad he's still active, but i wish there's another Timeslaughters game 4 real.
Fecal-lord is a hero. Thanks Shitman!
careful jobel, if Nintendo sees you using an emulator they're gonna sue you for twenty billion schmeckles
OY VEY!
👃🏻
That's a lot of schmeckles
The nose knows
Only 20 billion?! I don't see how 30 billion is enough for such a transgression. If you seriously think they don't owe every last one of those 40 billion shekels; you don't understand intellectual property. I say they should pay all 50 billion and be glad that's all they have to do.
This was corruptions in the Alpha Stages
Every time mario jumps in Mario 1 he sounds like pingu’s noot
"were pretty spoiled these days". Yeah being able to emulate Wii u and PS3 on a computer does tend to do so.
now you can emulate many games of Nintendo's latest console (Switch) pretty well.
"Why does this video game emulator have a severed hand? This disturbs me." - Joel, 3 years old.
Oh my god... I remember Nesticle. It was my first emulator of any kind ever. SUCH a nostalgia hit.
He missed the room at 12:19 which instead of just lowering the roof, it visually moved the entire floor too with the scoreboard getting corrupted.

Yeah. Same company behind MANSLAVE and Time Slaughter.
They made a bunch of absolutely amazing and disgusting games back in the day. Timeslaughter, Noggin Knockers, they even had this really old sidescrolling beat em up I can't ever seem remember the name of. There's a few channels on youtube that showcase some of Bloodlust's games and I recommend checking them out lol.
pallette editor means you can be waluigi
This brings me BACK
Omg i love that streamtime clip at the start!
I love all the emulators.
I kinda like the sound of the music in a minimalistic and charming way, like this is all they could do and it was impressive for the time.
Does jumping in Super Mario Bros sounds like Pingu saying "Noot Noot" or is it just me?
That opening gif is fucking amazing. Props to whoever made it.
I guess the only way to make an emulator back in the day was to be blessed by Papa Nurgle.
Buddy was in the former versions of NESticle, Fecal Lord came in more recent versions
love the music in this emulator so nostalgic
Man, I remember this emulator. Thanks for the nostalgia Joel.
Bloodlust Software is a gift that keeps on giving
Castlevania 3 gets EXTRA spicy with vintage emulators, and it intensifies as you get close to the end.
Oh lord. I actually remember this emulator a bit. I think I was still 5-6 years old when I used for the first time? This really takes me back... I was just a baby mate and too naive to understand the joke and the severed hand.
I love the stream start GIF
This is so interesting! I'd love to see this trying to run the more complex games released for the NES. Thanks, Shitman!
Well there are some roms that couldn't work on NESticle
I know, but Kirby was one to work! I definitely will have to try some games there, but I kind of doubt any of them will run. Days of Thunder, Elite, Color Dream games, Batman: Return of the Joke... and some other stuff!
The year i was born. Masterpiece
20:27 ZX Spectrum.
So Joel knows of the Amstrad... that’s impressive
I remember playing an early version of PJ64 back in the days on my 433MHZ Celeron PC, barely had any framerate in SM64 but I loved it.
ah memories of grade school, this and 'no$gameboy' were my first emus. BOW TO THE FECAL LORD !
i wish time slaughter 2 was finished now since i heard about its going to feature this guy
Duck Tales WOAH OH
Making jobel crash his bus
Ducktales WOAH OH
Crashing the Nesticle oh DUCKTALES
20:23 It's not the Amstrad or the Amiga. The Amstrad was around as sophisticated as the NES (it actually uses the same CPU that's in the Sega Master System, and for that matter Nintendo Gameboy), and the Amiga is a legendary 16 bit (and later 32 bit) computer that is frankly competitive with stuff like the SNES and Sega Genesis (technologically anyway). The Amiga even has a built in 4 channel chip that can play sample based music, not as good as the one in the SNES, but keep in mind this thing came out in the 80s. There's even a pretty good port of Quake 3 for later Amigas, but it needs some heavy upgrading.
You're probably thinking of the ZX Spectrum or something thereabout. Late 70s and early 80s 8-bit computers were the ones with notoriously crusty graphics, even the Apple II qualifies here.
I remember playing this on my 486DX in Windows 3.1. There was also No$gmb which worked great, but you had to exit to DOS for color games to run full speed. ZSNES worked too... at about 0.2 FPS.
it has an aesthetic of its own, i love it
I want to see him play Crazybus in Genecryst.
;)
Wow nesticle lol rad,I remember back in the day and it was actually pretty good, good memories.
23:13 that fucking scream killed me XD
God damn this emulator takes me back.
I must’ve had a later version of NESticle, because I never had any audio issues like that.
There were many emulators before Nesticle that were much more accurate. The problem with them was that they were extremely slow even on an above average rig. Nesticle was the first emulator that could be ran on anything, and it achieved that via loose approximations of almost everything.
23:12 The man behind the slaghuter
I sure hope he tries Genecyst someday.
THAT NES LOOKS LIKE A TESTICLE
Hence the name
No it doesn’t, you just have a dirty mind.
watching that one part in double speed is cool
Joel is a badde boi at videogames.
What's interesting to me after watching Joel for so long is that he seems to treat applications on his computer like physical items he owns, with stuff like keeping two copies of Nestopia on his computer even though one doesn't work right, or in the case of this VOD collecting old emulators. I've never seen this phenomenon in anybody else, just Joel.
The fact that putting the video to 2x speed, when he starts slowing it down and talking slower... that it is almost normal is amazing.
i wish this was a series
Do old PJ64.
White Tunic Link Hype!
Wasn’t it fairly accurate but just crashed a lot?
@@brendan9734 My earliest experience with PJ64 was with 1.4, a lot of games looked like ass, but for some reason ran better and crashed less than with 1.6, Majora's Mask, for example, would crash when turning into a goron in all versions except 1.4, but the game lacked lighting and shading, it looked like one of those trash slenderman clones.
Still better than the Wii U's NES emulator
please let this be a reoccurring series
lol back in the day this was our NES classic.
10:55 I UNDERSTOOD THAT REFERENCE JOEL I LOVE YOU
Wtf is that reference?
40:10 Fast boi Goomba vibrating at incredibly high speeds
Part of the crust of old emulation would have been from early rom copies as well, yes? I vaguely remember some roms weren't ripped properly or something.
I never thought I'd hear someone mention Rockbox ever again, but here we are

LOUTER JOEEL LOUTER.
Wow, emulation has come a long way since the late 90s! I think all NES/Famicom games work perfect, by now.

Also to get the hand away you need to press the space bar!
Being born in 2003 i unfortunately wasn't able to experience the absolute majesty that was this, but felt enough of a part of history with my dad telling me I had to be careful playing Mario Kart 64 because it made his computer overheat. He also talked about early Dolphin, and i remember thinking "no way, your computer can't run that"
I have a decent computer but it runs gamecube games incredibly slow
