TIL the word 'apotheosis'. Can never get enough of your speed painting, Marco!
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😘
Imho Marco's understanding of the theory is unmatched, from an emotional other than intellectual standpoint. Where other youtubers mostly offer a practical, highly synthetic and procedural step-by-step guide, seemingly driven by a trial-and-error approach, Marco truly inspires me with how he plays creatively with the theory while at the same time looking always like he knows precisely what he's doing. I bring that inspiration in my workflow before the technique itself. True maestro.
It's out of this world what this guy can pull off with an airbrush.
I had a bunch of fun with these guys!!! I can easily see myself falling into the CoS rabbit hole 😅 but I fear more the moment when "The Old Worlds" Bretonnia and Empire will come out 😅
DROP a LIKE or a comment to help the diffusion of the video!!! 😘
Waiting for them as well ! I might do a Cities or Bretonnia twist ahah
Your accuracy with the airbrush is just outstanding. Nice job as always 🙌
Yeah man is a surgeon with that thing lol
I am an absolute beginner with painting miniatures. Every video of Marco's is a masterclass. Thanks so much Marco 🙂
😊😊😊😘😘😘
Hi. My friend have a fun time at the show this weekend 😊
I live just to hear Marco's ""Hello guys"" every day !!!!!
I got back at the hobby after several years, learn new skills along with the old ones i had learn from painting...but your accuracy laying those layers with an airbrush...damn...makes me want to quit and go back to colouring kids books...those minis look awsome.
You are an inspiration Marco, every time I get into a funk or life gets too busy and pulls me away from minipainting (or the little one doesn't let you get any sleep...), your videos always get me inspired to paint something. Really liked how the 2 tones and oils were enough to sell the little volumes here, even if one requires the airbrush precision you have 😅
Thanks a lot for the video!!!
😁😊😁😘
Finally some colours speedpainted I needed ! Right when I need them ! Can't wait to watch the full video !
my hero!
😁😘😁
I would love to see more cities of sigmar! This video ticked many boxes for me. Thank you!
Awesome job dude, got fun written all over it, so nice to see you enjoying yourself!
such a wonderful systematic clean workflow. this metod and coloring can be applied to so many army races and contexts
Anything old world all the time❤
Love the old school Runefang on the 'blue ranger' :D
Can't wait
😁😁😁
You're able to achieve such a fantastic result in such a short time. Excellent!
Cool video! Thanks!
Teacher Marco pls do a video like this for the new warcry box, especially the ogors 😜
Gorgeous work! I'm taking inspiration for painting my Brineblood Marauders for Warmachine. I want to push the contrast level so they stand out on the table.
oils are the way forward, they make certain things so easy!
Awesome! I'm going for Living City, so this will be helpful!
Another amazing job.
Love the new CoS range. From these 5 "the red guy" is my favorite.
So good! Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic stuff! I definitely want to see more Cities of Sigmar!
love this troup! would love to see more!!
Amazing! Would loveee to see your take on the knights :)
This was wonderful, thanks. I would love to see more Cities of Sigmar from you.
Amazing work, and a flexible technique that could be applied in so many situations 🎉
Need to ask you about your airbrush accuracy, are you using a very fine needle, or what’s the secret? Just practice makes perfect?? 😅
Marco your work and tuts are outstanding! Your love for mini painting and teaching is so contagious! I was wondering if water based oils would be a thing when it comes to miniature painting. Keep it up!
Oh yass. Really nice video, i am excited to try that out.
This might be my favourite of your warbands so far! Im going to have to watch the preparatory steps a few more times for them to sink in 😅
Hey Marco, amazing video as always 😊
May I ask what PSI and ratio of thinner you were using for the Vallejo metal paint at the start? I’ve been struggling recently with speckling for some reason and have generally never had the best sense for how to balance the two ☹️
Thanks😊some great ideas
Another masterclass 😭😍
Love to see your fantasy mini paints but I always much prefer to see Warhammer Fantasy over Age of Sigmar. So the upcoming Old World stuff would be awesome to see from you!
Would love if you do a painting video on modern people 1/64 scale
Do you varnish your models after you’re done painting? I am finding that inks seem to be fairly easy to accidentally rub off on models I am playing with, but often I don’t want a uniform finish over the whole model (matteing down metallics or glossing up skin, for instance.) Thanks, always enjoy your videos!
Ooo I saw this set today on ebay and was very tempted, will be nice to see what's in it and see them all shiny and pretty ✌️😁
Only just started with the new AoS stuff, still got a bad taste in my mouth about fantasy being killed off if I'm being totally honest
Hi Marco,
Love your workflow. It is specifically useful for people who want to paint high quality minis but also play a lot and extend model range all the time.
Question 1:
How would you approach NMM in this method (considering it will definitely take a bit more time than metallics). I would love to see such example.
Question 2: do you respect the drying time of acrylics before applying the oil washes? On a movie it is just a moment, but I also know that it usually leads to stripping the paint if you don't wait OR maybe you have some magic trick there as well :)
Hi Marco
Been following your channel now for a good few years and love the mixing of acrylics and oils that you do. The right tool for the right job!
Just wondering if you have ever had your oils reactivate and become wet/greasy months done the line after Matt varnishing the models. I’ve let the oil washes dry overnight and thought this was adequate so decided then to leave for multiple days before varnishing and still it’s happened months on 🤷♂️
Any ideas much appreciated 👍
Dan
thnx.. your amazing ..can you do nechrons or tyranids ..:)
Excellent video, also didactically, as always. I love to see your brave brushstrokes at the end with opaque paints. I am wondering: standard oils are a very regular tool in your work. Why don't you use water mixable oils? Is there any disadvantage to them?
(except for the low surface tension, I mean)
Would love more CoS content! Maybe a more grim dark take? Or more muted like the Landsknecht bust you painted on Twitch. Either would fit the sculpts better than bright colors I think.
I’m very curious about how you were using the airbrush. Was the needle set in an open position? You seemed to be only pressing for air - like airbrush pointillism.
Hey Marco amazing work as usual ! You got a new airbrush ?
AOS is great! Give it a try
I have a problem when I get to the oil step that my acrylics are stained WAY more than I wanted. Is it likely the kind of thinner I'm using, the staining quality of the oil colors I'm picking, or something else? Do you have a recommendation for your favorite oils that stain the degree I see in this video?
I think the level of staining is mainly governed by three things and not the specific type of oil or thinner. Dilution level, time left on the model before wiping away, and the finish your washing on top of (gloss barely stains, satin is medium, Matt stains heavily). You could try tweaking any of these levers.
I noticed you've been using acrylic gouache. I could swear I saw a video or something on using gesso, maybe on your Patreon, but I can't find it. Is there a vid somewhere where you explain it?
How do you dispose of the mineral spirit-soaked sponges/q-tips? Do you let the foil-lined palette well of mineral spirits simply evaporate?
As in canvas oil painting you put the remaining white spirit in a sealed jar where the pigments quickly drop on the bottom, so you can re use the solvent over and over. Sponges and q-tips have a minimal amount of solvent on them that evaporates in a matter of seconds/minutes! 😊
Dominate the Paint!!
Lovely work as usual. I have a question:
Have you come across, or would you know why, secondary paint layers (especially inks) that are airbrushed over primer don't adhere to the primer? I have had this with FW/Liquitex inks over Molotow black getting removed by contrast or even water brushed over the top. What would you recommend to help adhesion?
My initial thought is you’re not allowing enough time for the paint to dry. Molotow can be especially misleading since it comes out glossy and almost immediately turns matte giving the impression it’s already dry. You still need to allow time for it to completely dry.
@@JEndymion good thought. I have started leaving every layer over night now and have yet to come across the issue again so you could be right.
I have also starting mixing a few drops of matte varnish into the Molotow :)
Sorry if this was already answered elsewhere but what do your tinted metals consist of? Just the metallic paint and a certain ink or do you add water or contrast medium to it?
No worries, it's a pleasure! Just mid/high value silver and inks straight from the bottle in this case because I need the opacity to cover the overspray from airbrushing. Medium and water come into play on larger and more transparent applications (check my video about Krondys, the big GW dragon!)
I thought these guys looked cool but wasn’t sold on how GW painted them. I knew once Marco painted them they would look badass!
Hi Marco, great video as usual! I would like to start using the technique with oils for washing but before starting two questions:
1- Is the white alcohol you use to thin the oil paint isopropyl alcohol or a designated product?
2- Once the upper part has been removed with cotton swabs, how long does it take to dry the remaining part in the recesses? I know that oil has a longer shelf life. Are there any tricks for drying?
Thank you
Hey, isopropyl alcohol won’t interact with oils, it’s there to melt acrylics (you can use to strip the paint on an old mini or reaaaally clean up an old brush). You need to use white spirits for oils.
As for drying time it all depends on how thick your oil layer is. In this case, heavily diluted washes, there is so little oil paint left that you can almost start painting over it as soon as the white spirit has evaporated on the raised parts and at most half a day for the recesses, more likely even more quickly.
@@mathieu.robert thank you
Ey Marco, i dont know if you mentioned it already, but can i ask you what is the brand and model of the airbrush you are using in this video?
Thank you so much
Hi, true question: why using acrylic paint for highlighting after the oil wash over oil highlight ? what's are the pros and cons ?
The acrylic dries faster, oils dry much slower but can do blending super easily without much efford as well as having great tinting effects. I use them alot for washes, tinits and blending I started from watching Marco several years ago :-)
How long does it take for the oil washes to dry?
Curious but do you still Mork Borg or any of the supplements/expansions?
Every single expansion and setting of Forbidden Psalm!!! 😊 I'm in love with the system! But (only because I played a ton of FP) recently I moved a bit more into The Doomed... Check it out 😉
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Oh nice! :-) I just got into it recently and have Forbidden Psalm as well but more so the RPG side both seem so fun, I also have been with Bestiarum Miniatures for nearly 3 years now so I have content for that works in both games (so handy to have they give great ideas for quests with the Forbidden Psalm stuff they put out even if you dont play it, maps, stats I think items as well. I also have the solo stuff to play alone (as I work 50 hours of night work a week my soical life is lacking at least meeting people in person ha) I was just curious because I remember you done a video or two painting Bestiarum minis stuff and talking a bit about Mork Borg. Aw I hope the move went well at least. Are you still here in Ireland? I wanted to go to the last painting event you had on in Underworld Gaming (its like 5-10 mins away from my house) But I had to work and couldnt get it off :-(
Does the point of the airbrush change anything in the spray?
It makes a huge difference! My gold standard for miniatures is 0.2;
0.3 is good for vehicles and monsters but not great for details. 0.15 is generally an overkill for most models and not very beginner friendly (even if here I used a 0.18 😅), 0.4 is a spray gun 🤣
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM I didn’t find a 0.18 iwata needle, I’ll have to look better… but I was not talking about the needle but the “cap” that is around the hole, usually you had a circular one but this time it’s different and I’m curios if it makes any difference on the spray..
Out of interest where did you get the head for that green steelhelm?
It's from a WHFB Empire kit! The body of the blue one and the head of the green one make an old Elector Count on foot 😊
I have tried to replicate these speed painting processes many times but I keep having the problem that my oil was does remove some paint from the previous layers. Any way to counter this?
Varnish before oil paint. Marco doesn’t often varnish, but the Molotow One4All paints he’s airbrushing with are very tough paints meant for street art, so they can take abuse.
Go go power Rangers !
Come one, don't say me that nobody thought about this with the flashy and beautiful colors or this band 🙂
100% 😁😁😁 I call them "The medieval Power Rangers" in the video 😋!
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM I didn't react to this line of yours, sorry, I was too paying attention to the beautiful miniatures ^^
Hello great video! could you do a tutorial for beastman of chaos gor and ungor skin?
in the same principle as the Untamed Beasts? You would be a god, Thanks for your work :D
What PSI are you spraying at?
Hey Marco! I would love you helping paint better through constructive feedback of my work. How could I make it happen? I checked your patron, but didn't find it...
Thanks man, you are the best teacher on CZcams. Your creative process is clean and you are already taking me to the next level (beginner here).
❤❤❤
HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGG! :D
What happened to Marco, its been months since his last video?
Lol, check the posts in the community session 😉 New video coming tomorrow!
50FPS?
yes... !
Has the yt channel been abandoned?
No no! I just needed some time for top secret projects 😉 and a bit of personal stuff. The videos will come back as soon as I'm back from the US tour of workshops!
I had no idea you were on a tour, hope it all goes great!@@MarcoFrisoniNJM
@@lectric Thanks a million!!! Right now I'm at the Las Vegas Open 😊 next class in half an hour 😋
The wonderful choice of the head with the feather just illustrates to me, how streamlined and boring the new sculpts are. :(
