    Speed painting in its most "utilitarian" form serves the simple purpose of quickly bring a bunch of models to the gaming table but for me is mostly a study of what is really really essential to make a model/illustration work and look cool; speed itself becomes more like a nice sub product of this investigation that reveals how simplicity and a few clear key elements are often the best way to create a striking image! See you later at the premiere!!!

      You just gotta try. Color harmonies/contrasts, tinting etc are all your friend that go a long way to make this work easily. Keyword easily. It is surprisingly simple and I feel that many people walk away from watching these after the final reveal feeling that, from the context of their miniature painting perspective it is hard because the end product is so good. But it is easy and you just need the gear (oils are not expensive, those USB airbrushes are a great place to start - but you can drybrush if you don't want to shell out for that) and a little practice.

    Hey Marco, at 1:58 you talk about this blue undercoat tricking your brain into seeing this paint job as having a cool temperature. With so many layers on the model, I'm not sure if that will actually show up, even subliminally. It would be interesting to see this effect side by side with a model that had a different undercoat but was painted in the same ways.
    Also, I think a troubleshooting video would be a great addition to your videos. Instead of "do this and your model will look great" something like "this is why you aren't getting the results that you want". I think this would be much appreciated by the community and it's not something anyone else has done. Thanks for the videos!

You explain why you're taking the steps that you do so well (and with a wonderfully cheerful enthusiasm). Combined with your videos on colour theory and painting techniques, I can (after watching the video a couple of times) just put the video on in the background while I work and just by listening to you talk, know what the model looks like in my head. I regularly go back to your Corvus Cabal video as I think that colour scheme is just beautiful. 💜

Is this because you've come to prefer them entirely, or just because they're a fun new tool in your kit that fills the same purpose? I've been thinking of picking up one or the other to add to my collection.

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  Před rokem +1

      Hi! Thanks a million man 🤩 super super appreciated!!!
      No, they are not technically primers, they are just really really tough graffiti paints. They are crazily opaque and mat and since they are made for graffiti, tags and mural art they are pretty resistant so I tend to use them as primer/first layer. But you can always prime with a more classic/dedicated product and then go over with their total opacity to establish a basic chromatic layer. Just remember to shake them really really well because I often see people working with the super saturated dirty water that sits on the top that obviously doesn't have all the properties! Ps: I love your channel 😊

    Lovely colors! I really like the simple bases with a dark blue/green color. I was wondering @MarcoFrisoniNJM how you actually execute the oil was step when it comes to wiping with cotton tips. Do you paint all the models with oil washes fully before wiping it off? Or do you only do a couple of models at a time in this step? I just seems to me, that if you paint all the models with oil washes, more time than 15 minutes would have passed when you are done and ready to start wiping off oil paint :-)

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  Před rokem +1

      I apply the wash on all the models before cleaning! The timing is relatively important and it changes the actual final look with a difference of hours, not minutes. white spirits or turpentine are the same but different names around the world, depends where you are. You can get low odour artist versions at your art store. They still stink, but less so.

    do you use your windsor newton sable hair brushes for your contrast paint application? i had always heard that you didnt want to use your good brush, but use a synthetic cause it can damage it. if im wrong. let me know. you know better than i. :) great video as always

      Contrast is hard on your brushes because it's so fluid it's almost impossible to avoid it going into the ferrule. That being said, if you rinse your brushes frequently and thoroughly while you are painting, I haven't noticed any extra damage. In the end I prefer the control a good brush gives me over the little more durability I would get if I don't use it.

    I looked up Molotow and a CZcams video said that iwata airbrush cleaner wasn’t strong enough to clean it out of the airbrush. Is this the case for you? The same guy said that he had to 99% ipa to clean his airbrush.

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  Před rokem +1

      That's true, but only if you are silly enough to make the paint dry inside your cup 😅, thing that's never a good idea with any kind of paint! I usually use simple water between color changes of active paint and during the general work and a bit of cleaner at the end of the day 😉. The good part of that review is proving how tough dry Molotow are 😁

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  Před rokem +1

      Nope! Modern acrylics are super tough and oils even tougher. Plus, a coat of varnish would kill all the different finishes I've created; shiny metallic armours, mat skins, satin shadows...

      I almost never use varnish! If I use it, it's for some kind of visual effect: make a detail more mat or powerfully glossy or for tricik with oils to change their spreading or adhesive properties

    Marco, great video, those models look amazing as usual! I had a quick question. In a lot of your videos you do your zenithal with white Ink and then proceed to using contrast paint. Whenever I try to do this the contrast paint seems to just peel away the white ink. At first I thought maybe I didn't leave it to dry long enough but it happens even if i leave it overnight. any tips?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  Před rokem +3

      It can do it if the metallic pigments are really big/low quality but modern acrylic formulations especially for modelling and miniatures don't really cause this issue (especially if you clean and maintain well your brushes)

    • @marksminis
      @marksminis Před rokem

      I keep separate brushes for metalics, I don't let the particles get too far up the bristles, and I wash immediately in a separate water cup for metalics. I also keep a separate scrap brush for mixing metallics. If you let metallics dry on your brush, they can be removed with a good brush cleaner soap, mostly.
