Big thanks to Games Workshop for sending me a complementary copy of the Horus Heresy box set. I was under no obligation to make this video, but I do have to disclose that they sent me the box for free. - Hry

16:30 Sorry that Oblits and Night Lords are both sub par in the new dex, at least chaos marines are good now huh?
I got in on these! Can't wait to bring my Tzeentch loyal Chaos Marines some much needed reinforcement!
The marble effect is class, and also love the Salamander lava base you got without having to use raised cork platforms.
Cork is my pet peeve lol. I have never seen a material - concrete, rock, soil, whatever, that looks like cork at scale
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop thank you! Everyone at my LGS side-eyes me when I politely balk at their suggestion that I use cork on my bases.
The marble effect got me to appreciate and respect this hobby even more
I feel it has to be the right cork to work, there are a few that are close to the texture of a dry cement.
the trick is the fill the gaps of the cork with something, like puddy or paste, SOMETHING to fill it in. Then it can look like concrete, but if you just slap it on there, ya it doesnt work
I saw that $300 box of Horus Heresy and was like "NOPE" but now..... now I think I need it. The first one and this second video are some of the best mini painting videos I have ever seen, it is quick, to the point, tons of tips and tricks, tons of tried and true methods, just amazing.
saw it for $260 :) also way cheaper than buying any of it piecemeal
£180 in its native country where I am
I'm not sold on the box at all; it's the paint schemes and basing that I could use on models I already have that got me. If you really want to play horus Heresy you could pick up older models, kitbash, paint and proxy them up (like what Eric did using the flamethrower with the salamander)
The Age of Darkness box is such good value. Even for a 40k player. Im building most of my 40k alpha legion army out of it.. aswell as using them for HH. It's literally like. 2k points 40k army for 250-300 USD
GW channel endorsement secured right here :D
The art to giving miniatures that "personal touch" is in the subtle conversions and poses. You've absolutely mastered these, especially in the head choices. Bravo!
My favorite theory about the missing primarchs is that their genetic code was unstable and they degenerated into wretched mutants. This would explain the secrecy, as the emperor’s own creations could never possibly fail the badly.
I just like the idea that they took one look and said "no". That the Emperor rolled up with his archaic technology, muttering techpriests and floating robo skulls, while the two of them had landed on a pretty chill world, with like decent technology or maybe a small star trek like federation where they made peace with a few alien races instead of war. Big e probably threw a hissy-fit and burned the place to the ground and then cut thier pictures out of his yearbook while crying because they wouldn't join his murder club
There's a ton of really cool theories out there, like one of them landed on a Xenos planet and became the leader of a race of Xenos, or that they used Dark of Age of Technology SCT designs and starting making Men of Iron again, or that one of them was actually "good" and would have actually competed with the Emperor with his alternative vision of humanity, or that the 2 lost Primarchs were the 2 who were designed for combat in the Warp and in Space, "admiral" primarchs so to speak, because that roll is conspicously missing. It would make sense if they fell to Chaos. Perhaps one of them was captured by a greater demon or chaos god and the other Primarchs had to go in to the warp and kill their battle brother to keep him from turning to Chaos. Another cool theory is that the Primarch was starting to become a powerful psyker, and came to understand the warp earlier than all the other Primarchs. Or perhaps one of the Primarchs could even have been offered a deal by the Chaos gods to become even greater than the Emperor if he would betray his father. There are so many cool theories out! Geneseed corruption is pretty standard and happens already. The fact that 2 Primarchs are redacted and forgotten means his creations failed no matter what. Of all these theories, geneseed corruption would seem to pose the lowest threat. Would that even be worth hiding and going through the trouble to alter Primarch memories? If anything it might serve a cautionary tale to safeguard their geneseeds, and the Emperor wouldn't have to accept full fault. You like what you like, but you should go look at some other theory videos if this topic interests you, because there's a ton of fan theories about what could have happened to the lost Primarchs and they're all super cool
Emperor: *walks into the clone lab and sees what looks to be two fist sized ball of chewing gum floating around in Baja Blast*
@@margathapai4010 I'll admit I'm not very knowledgeable in 40K lore, Emperor lore included. But from what I know a "hissy fit" seems out of character for the Emperor. Especially considering his age and experience. He's definitely capable of major fuckups like with teleporting Angron and burning Monarchia, but a hissy fit seems too dumb. Unless this is TTS Emperor lol.
my theory is that the 2nd was extremely good with genetic alteration and the 11th was extremely good at creating machines, as primarchs were a piece of their father, these 2 aspects were the only that didn’t show up. 2nd altered his own dna and geneseed in order to improve his astartes yet failed and made some pretty horrible abominations, yet loved his mutated sons so much he was willing to abandon the emperor for them. the 11th landed on a very tech advanced world that was destroyed in the age of strife, found some ai, used said ai, made his legion extremely technologically adept, emperor found out that the 11th was either using ai, daot shit or his entire legion had been transformed into robots with ai along with the 11th primarch, who was probably fucking megazord at this point. which was why even the dark angels had trouble with them and why purging the 2 was so difficult. genetic monsters in another level and literal space marine necrons are hard to destroy and purge.
I'm a Salamanders army builder myself and I really appreciated the tips regarding the lava-themed base. Great video!
A full team like that Death Guard would look mint.
Mint is a good color, personally, I would choose a poison green. Specifically the color code #49b960
I always loved the aesthetics of the Alpha Legion and the World Eaters, and your takes on them are just sublime, as were all of the other 16 Legions you represented. I love the glowing effect on the plasma pistol on the Ultramarine!
Such a perfect mix of cinematography, storytelling, tutorial, and charm.
You're a legend, thanks for doing what you do! I really enjoy watching what you've been making :)
14:06 Traitor's Red looking _really_ good there, Eric!
Painting is great, but my favorite part was learning about "ultramarinus," that's clever. Thanks Eric!
Absolutely awesome! The salamander base is amazing and the ultramarine marble!
That Marble effect with the cloth! I was like there's no way that's gonna look good-WAIT.
Eric, this video is so genius Ive watched it multiple times as inspiration. It’s an accessible level of kitbashing and I love that you even made the bases simple but unique.
I'd recommend to try out shattered legions army: that way you can assemble marines as members of several legions instead of one, and still use them as a single army
or the gimmick is that they're all alpha legion but showed up in outfits of all the legions for tactical confusion
Oh the death guard helmet was brilliant looked like a rotting bone I loved that, gonna steal that for skelletons
Some really great techniques in these two vids that do a really great job of looking different than most common techniques, but also still keep to the "original" look of the Legions. Very cool!
I had never considered doing Angron's boyz before, as I also didn't like the "blood on red" factor, but boooooy this paint job is making me doubt the emperor of mankind and reconsider my choice of going imperial fists... !
Could always go loyalist World Eaters like I did, their final stand at Isstvan III was the stuff of legend. Blood for The Emperor, Skulls for the Legion!
@@asteroidrules no way that’s what I want to do! I also want to do loyalist death guard and emperors children
@@Raditz102 Saul Tarvitz is easily my favorite Horus Heresy character, I'd be tempted to build an army around him too.
you what mate?!?
@@Raditz102 loyalist emperors children nearly made me opt out of going custodes ngl
I just wanted to tell you that you are by far my Favourite Hoobyist on CZcams and inspiried me to build a diorama of my white scars successors with your last video
These all look crazy good, and the appearance of Malebolgia in the warp was a fun touch.
I love how you gave background on the characters then a paint tutorial. Made this and Pt. 1 extremely enjoyable to watch. Awesome video! ❤
While nice job on all, my favorites from this video series:
1) World Eaters
2) Night Lords
3) Salamanders
I just want to say, your showing of mistakes and errors has brought a serious relief to me. I love painting and have fun planning my paint schemes. Its just nice to see a CZcamsr "Show cracks" so to speak. Make's high end painting feel obtainable.
I think I want them all! Amazingly well done! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so so much for going with the lighter minty-ish seafoam green for the Sons of Horus. It is a much nicer look for their uniform
That plasma glow on the Ultramarine looks fantastic! I thought there was an LED in there for a second!
Vallejo fluorescent paints are great for that!
'And there it is, a mysterious operative from the Alpha Le-...'
I see what you did there!
I'm very impressed with how you came up with unique things to add to each Marine. I'm especially happy about the salamanders because I've been looking for a good way to paint lava for a bit now.
I don’t really build or play any miniatures anymore, but I use some of these tips in painting my 1:18 action figures and customs I have on my channel. I appreciate the skills you share here on the channel. Love the blood spattered armor.
This was an extremely impressive project; not only did you show a bunch of diffrent ways of painting, but the bases were varied and phenomenal.
there is so much information in this video and it is presented so succinctly. great job, man.
This was a solid video. Perfect mix of lore, exploring different factions and all tied together with cool painting tutorials. As someone who is new to 40k this is great.
I came here from part 1 and I'm blown away by your skill and expertise. Really. I'm in full JFK mode, mind blown.
As someone who has NEVER had any interest in the tabletop game whatsoever, but loves the lore books and other media, I'll admit that your videos are making me itch to pick up a small (entry level?) set and get to work painting my very own models. I enjoyed painting and assembling model cars when I was younger but the challenge and detail you're able to bring to each piece is utterly astounding. Bravo, good sir, bravo!
Perfect mix of narration, context and painting scenes. Very well put together! Good stuff.
I don't play 30k or 40k, but I am loving these videos. Very interesting!
The choice of music on the "reveal" is pretty spot on too!
Guess you're just going to have to start 18 new armies! :-D
I was a little sad we didn't get to see the original Word Bearers' colours, but you did the Heresy Red amazingly.
That marble effect alone is amazing. Was looking for a good way to do this for years. Will 100% do it like you did it. Amazing job
Just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy these types of videos! I dont paint play or collect I simply enjoy watching you guys do it all and it amazes me!
FUUUN!
18:08 Love the Salamander Oldschool Flamer! Everything here is bad ass!
WESLNEY SNIPES!
That world eater is class
An incredible effort on these! You really manage to capture the spirit of each legion and nail their color schemes! Fantastic job!
That Paintjob on the deathguard in 8:18 is telling a story all by itself.
The yellow dust on the coalblack burnt surface finishes the look nicely.
Loved the results of the simple sand & paint that got you that marbled look on the base. Definitely keeping that one in mind going forward
Wow man, what a great couple of videos. Your editing of images, video and voice over about all these legions was so good! Loved it!
Love the word bearer, simple conversations that do a lot
This was a really good post to sit and watch in the AC after a lousy day at work.
Fantastic series and tutorials, as well as great introductions to the Legions! This is a perfect jumping-off point for beginners new to the Heresy! Very well done indeed.
Legit was looking every day for a new update on this, thanks for the great content!
this video got me into the hobby. This is the perfect showcase of how creative this hobby can be.
I've been interested in playing Warhammer for years now, but had no interest in the painting side of the hobby because I assumed it was just about coloring inside the lines. Watching this I now know this is a legitimate way to express yourself and let your creativity flourish.
Thanks Eric for being the catalyst for me to make the leap!
Lovely work on these, Eric. Love the little bits of lore that you bring into each model.
Love how the world eater has nothing but a chain axe.
Absolutely love this little mini series. Great technique tutorials, awesome looking marines, and PROPS for the Marble effect. Might have to try that one day... Can't wait to see what Legion you DO end up choosing, or if you just make a "Grand Alliance" of sorts of all your favorites!
Love that Death Guard marine! Would love to see your take on a Plaguecaster or Plague Surgeon
The marble effect still amazes me - so much easier than other methods I've used and looks amazing :)
What fun! We can tell you had fun making this video too. Bravo.
Again, in many ways entertaining and educational. Those two videos are a class of its own. Thx a lot.
Such a fantastic job and a really fun project I bet. Tests your ability as a painter / modeller to tell a story. I’ve watched this several times as a newbie.
Really really cool man. I love how you incorporated the home worlds of each faction into the base terrain. The white Scars model is my favourite. I imagine myself walking the plains with my white scar brothers, watching the tall grass dance into the wind. Before engaging the enemey in combat to defend my beloved homeworld. The stepped on grass effect looked fantastic.
I'm glad you did a part 2. Wanted to see you do Salamanders in the first video.
I've been working on some salamanders and the way you did the bases were awesome! I'm definitly going to try that method!
Thanks for the video! You made it 1000% more hard to choose, but I’m happy I saw this video.
this is probably going to get me to start 30k. i've never played the games, but i have loved the books for years. Having the new Horus Heresy sub-game 30k is such a draw for me... and these videos were exactly what i needed for a fleshed out idea of the legions appearance on the table. ty so much. new WH tabletop fan and new sub
Very well done, Eric. Lots of inspiration, thank you. But now: Back to the titan!
14:11 I would have never thought to combine the glossy finish with flat black Paulding. Looks very cool!
Eric, your video’s just keep getting more awesome everytime! Awesome to watch 😃
Amazing work Eric! Love the amount of work you’ve put into these videos!
You have to be one of if not my favourite Warhammer CZcamsr. Love the video. Brilliant as always.
Just got back into 40K after 15 years and damn there’s so much Space Marine stuff. Literally so many different boxes and sets was pushing other factions in one of my local to the far corners or bottom shelf. They have like 100+ products then others are just barely pushing 15-50.
Amazing video man, really badass with how it turned out, the personal stand out to me was the Iron Hand, fantastic work friend
That Iron Hand is SICK!
This project was fantastic. What a great 2-part series!
Wow, that Son of Horus is gorgeous.
I love the variety you get in all these chapters and legions 😊
There’s just something about that imperial fist yellow that just kicks ass. I love all the legion color scheme but yea, yellow 🥵😎
Hey bro I love the way you paint & keep it simple while explaining to people like myself who struggle with painting ALOT,, I have been building, playing,& trying to paint these damn little plastic nightmares since first edition “ Rouge Trader” damn I’m old, but thank you again , your videos really really help me out & keep me inspired. THE EMPEROR PROTECTS AVE DOMINUS NOX NO REMORSE NO PITY NO FEAR
Your basing skills are incredible, that salamander looks awesome.
Awesome work! Thank you for these videos!
that death guard scheme is freaking awesome
World Eaters or Sons of Horus color scheme is really amazing, but also that super simple Space Wolves is just *chefs kiss*
Normally I really dig how crisp White Scars turn out, but that World Eater was crazy cool
Marvelous, bloody brilliant 👏
Superbly done with enthusiasm style and style of your own bravo ! My son did this when the first Heresy books came out !
From your collection there I think my favorites are the DA, SoH, WB and NL. The basing on them is also fitting for each one. Great project, very fun to watch!
Thanks for these 2 videos! Sparked a few ideas on techniques and schemes I could use in the future.
My favorite of yours were white scars! I think they look very clean, consideeeing it was an easy paintjob
that marble effect looked so good!! cool trick thnx
Superb 2nd part Eric.
Great videos man loving it Soo good to watch one video with all the legions in it awesome format plus the lore into is a great touch
I don't really like Space Marines too much but I really enjoyed these videos. Great mix of background and painting techniques, I think you really captured the feeling of each chapter.
It would be great to see a video in the future where you covered each Chaos Space Marine chapter in their full corrupted glory!
Good work man. 👍
Amazing tips!! I love the marbling technique! Your right it’s hard to choose a legion! That salamander is headed to FLAVORTOWN!!!!!
Very nice collection! Fantastic idea!
This is such a cool idea, I know what my next painting project is gonna be
Another cool trick for blood spatter is to load paint on your brush, hold it close to the model and blast some air from an airbrush into the paint
The word bearer is the best one of the series. That marble effect is sick as well.
I loved these videos, I'm new to the lore and this gave me great visuals for when I read the books. I love your world eaters, and might give that design a try!
Another outstanding video, hot on the heels of the last one! Arena. Ultramarine. Your knowledge of everything is uncanny - and of course, your painting rocks.
A great result with simple stuff 🔥
Just Finished the book Betrayer when I finally found this video and have to say that World Eater is exactly how I pictured them in battle! So sick! That blood effect makes the NAILS BITE!
really good work and paintjob on all of your models!
Very nice work 👍. I wish I had this during my modeling days back mid 80's
