    Great, Job , brother. Some people don't understand how time-consuming this step of restoration is.

      Refinishing all the small parts really makes the difference when done. You know all about cleaning and reusing the original hardware.

    Looks great! I am looking forward to seeing the finished project. I LOVE Firebirds. I have a 67 Pontiac 400 that I am hoping to drop into a 67 Firebird one day.

      Very cool. When I can get the correct year engine to go back into the car it’s a nice bonus. Good luck!

    Nice job! I really like these videos that show all of the little things that are often overlooked. A lot of other car youtubers would just skip over these details. This is making me want to buy a sandblaster 😅

      Glad you liked it! These are the necessities of making the car look great when done and relatively simple to do.

    The Scatt blast cabinet has been invaluable on my restoration hands down. 😎✌️

    For what all the parts cost new, a little time and a sand blaster saves a whole lot on your budget. Bonus if you have a wife to do it. 😎

      lol indeed having a helper is nice. I had my daughter help sand blast my car a few years ago she was wearing a face mask and pink gloves.

    Eastwood sells silver cad paint to really match original. As well as other metal matching paints. Breather tube should be black. I prefer epoxy primer as self etching is porous like lacquer primer and moisture will get through it if you don't overcoat right away. Line clamps actually came color coded for different sizes.

    Great video and tips! I have 2 OE intake manifolds. 1 is from my ‘68 and is a 2 barrel with complete carb, the second is a 4 barrel bare intake. I’m never gonna use them, not sure how I’d ship 2 tons of manifolds, but if you find yourself needing an OE one, let me know and we can talk price.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Will do. Shipping would be brutal for a factory intake. Might be like $40-80 is my guess

    Eastwood Cast Blast is a great option for items you want to protect but still have them look like cast iron. It works great. I used it on my steering parts (centerlink, tie rods) and master cylinder. Stuff looks new even after a couple of years.
    I love this sort of little detail work stuff. I've spent hours just rebuilding and detailing an e-brake assembly and accelerator pedal assembly.
    What are you using for a compressor? I need to replace my Husky single stage. I can only blast for a few minutes until the compressor is overheating and the nozzle is blowing water.

      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I will look into that Eastwood paint. Thanks!
      My compressor is a sanborn 60 gallon 2 cylinder single stage 220v. Seems to keep up ok

    Is the abrasive blasting media much better than sand? It appears to not clog as much. Industrial spray galvanized paint also looks cast iron in color. Black parts in 450 degree oven for 2 hours seems to help durability of finish. Looking Great!

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 3 měsíci +1

      The Blast media i used cuts quick both paint and rust, regular sand works but i found it makes more dust and not as uniform surface when done.

    John, I’m looking for a good air compressor to start this stage of my restoration. Do you have any recommendations?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Years ago I used a tiny single Cyl 20 gallon compressor and still did good with it but hands down something with a larger tank and higher cfm works way better and doesn’t constantly run. I have a twin cylinder, 220v, single stage, 7hp, 60 gallon compressor and has done a fine job for me. To answer your question 60-80 gallon 220v should be a decent unit for a home compressor.

    I might have missed it but what model sand blaster you got there?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 3 měsíci +1

      It’s an old JC Whitney siphon style had it for over 20 years. Craftsman sold the exact same unit. It’s pretty much just like any siphon feed you can get from anyplace.

    I wonder if the reproduction control arms will fit. There are so many parts that I bought for my firebird and they were a joke. Holes drilled way off, bends in the parts at the wrong locations etc.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 3 měsíci +1

      That is a possibility, I will make sure to share what I find out if I try them on the next build.

    What did you coat the manifold with?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 3 měsíci +2

      The intake I painted it with a rustoleum primer to prevent flash rust. It’s not a self etch because I plan to paint the engine with epoxy first. Self etch and epoxy i was told don’t get along well.

  • @stevenpringle7813
    @stevenpringle7813 Před 3 měsíci +1

    I am surprised you don't wear gloves. What happens when the sand hits your fingers?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 3 měsíci +1

      The answer is it hurts, industrial blaster will remove flesh. I suppose after 25 years of blasting you get a feel for how to position the part and your hand. Gloves are not a bad idea. My daughter has pink gloves she wears when blasting.
