- 8 more floor pan pieces on a convertible, many times they are missing after a restoration. If you have a convertible Firebird or Camaro you should inspect your car for these panels plus a few extra tips if you are rebuilding one for yourself. Many times they were removed and some people don’t know what to look for.

Great tip on the spring pockets. Interesting differences from coupe to convertible. Appreciate the information. 👍
I was told about that spring pocket thing and learned that from someone else’s headache. Mocking bird and the pumpkin project I had to move the frame rails in or out about 3/16” to get it to fit with no modification and both of those cars where assembled on a frame rail jig.
Very informative vlog John!! Keep up the fantastic work!!!👍🏽
Thank you! Will do!
That’s some key info on the spring bracket, Thanks
I haven’t been burned by it but I had a few other friends that have so hoping to save some headaches
Looks like everything is lining up really nice. I'm going to build some what of a jig for mine. Mainly cause I want it to be mobile if I need to sandblast something. I did that once in the garage, never again, lol. If it wasn't for that, I could definitely use your method and I feel it would work just fine. Nice explanation, I write measurements on mine all the time as well.
I used to sand blast in my garage as well but the aftermath and mess just isn’t worth it. Even with a both with heavy curtains the sand still went everywhere.
Good information, thanks as always for sharing your knowledge and experience
My pleasure!
Thank you for the tips and explanations!
Anytime friend
Great video Jon!
The floor looks much gooder. As always thanks for taking along for ride.
You bet.
excellent info. Thanks Jon.
Any time!
Thanks again Jon. I forgot about those spring pockets that were in my trunk when I got it.
They are a necessity when treat fitting the measurements aren’t everything
Thanks for sharing!
Of course, can’t tell you how many times i have seen “restored”
Convertibles missing some of these pieces
My camper doesn't have a garage but that will change one day until then you're keeping my dream alive thanks for another great video 👍👍
Definitely a handful of differences that I felt it was worth mentioning
I built my first Firebird in my parents backyard. Still have that car too. Hopeful you can get that dream going soon.
@@VinylVillageGarage all very helpful and can always rewatch your videos for reference 👍👍👍
@milesunderwood2380 that is why I am doing this. It can always be a future reference
As always great info, tech! Keep it my friend.
Thanks, will do!
@@VinylVillageGarage ment to say keep it up my friend.lol
I never realized how much extra metal there is in a convertible
It had a few extra pieces for sure, a lot of people don’t know I bet.
Good content and thanks for the tips looking forward to seeing more.
Thank you and plenty more to come
Very interesting...didn't know that were that many structural differences in convertible vs hardtop.
Glad to help! I did this because a lot of people don’t know and then buy a car that was restored and the pieces where left off.
Correct....you do it the right way.
@@darrellsaunders4267 thanks!!
After watching your videos, I miss my 68 400 Auto Verdoro Green Bird I had in 1971 in high school more every day.
👍
Thanks!
Thinking I wound up with more then 8.
8 just attached to the main floor pan. Several other pieces are different. It seems they get left
Off when the floor pan gets replaced
Just a thought as some are not. Is the pinnion centered in these cars? If not the tunnel may be offest 1/4".
Yup the pinion is not centered and even the engine is off center as well. I am sure that is the why. You are correct
Hey Jon, Thanks you for all your efforts!
When I installed a full trunk pan in my 69 Camaro coupe,
I found that the reproduction trunk pans ( I tried both Dynacorn and AMD both were the same) were wider then the original by about a 1/4 inch on each side at the shock mounting location on both side.
I had to hammer and dolly both sides in to get a good fit.
Have you seen this?
Yup I had to on the OER one I just installed, it wasn’t quite a 1/4” but close.
💪😎
😎
so you do the work off camera and talk about it on camera? some people might like watching that
I do both, I do a lot of step by step videos. I felt the convertible floor pan had so many more parts then a coupe that get missed I wanted to cover it as its own topic.
