- Simple technique for clean and solid plug welds. No grinding required. Looks very similar to spot welds when done. This technique is perfect for plug welding body panels, even multiple layers at the same time and still look great and pass the durability testing, smashing with an air hammer and chisel bit 😎

How did I miss this? Excellent technique! Looks great.
It has worked great for me. The key with multiple layers or thicker gauge go with a bigger hole to hit the base metal.

Thanks! Will do! of course welding in an Arizona garage you can turn the voltage setting down the metal is all preheated🤣 but you should also keep an extra shielding gas bottle around too I have been told

Nice detailed video showing how you do this, so thanks for that. Mine are a bit uglier since I have my Forney setup for Flux Core. I may get the Gas bottle over at Airgas down from me, but it really depends on how much welding I really do. Nothing wrong with Flux core, just not as clean and pretty!
I agree I used Flux core on my first Firebird build. The welds where still good 20 years later. It works and can be just as durable.

I work at Dillons, (Wichita, KS). That product is NOT authorized in our store, so-if the vendor brought it in, there is no way to dex it in. Dexing items in is the procedure for which the vendors get paid. I did speak with the Pepsi rep, he said it is still available & it is still produced.

love the technique
takes a few tries to get it down but I really like how it looks when done. my friend Luis has mastered it with flux core wire, I tried and can’t pull it off as clean.

Great video! What is your technique for stitch welding trunk panels. Do you prefer one piece trunk pans or 3 piece trunk pans.
Thanks!! Stitch welding a butt weld is something i will be showing when i install the 1/4 panel. Essential low heat cool the area and jump around until fully welded I also leave a small gap like a few sheets of paper. I find I can use less heat and get full penetration that way.
As for trunk pan one or three depends on how bad the car is. I love the one piece because it looks super clean when installed and just like factory but to install you have to remove the tail panel or frame rails. If those are good then a multi piece is the way to go.
i was planning on buying the Eastwood 175 or 180 and the setting is what i needed to know.

I love my welder paid for itself 100 times now. 75/25 argon/co2 My gauge reads like 16. I don’t mess with it much and I weld indoors so no air movement issues it seems to work great. My welder is old and no longer available the mig 180 is the replacement i

Was wondering what size screws work best my new floor pan is coming next week also having a tough time finding frame rails for a 67 any idea where to find them . Excellent videos cant get enough.
Great question! I should have included that in the video they are #10x 3/4”
As for frame rails for a 1967 I would check with AMD first but other then that I use summit racing and buy the OER brand. AMD usually has them on hand but you pay more.

I did weld them similar to factory, the only thing I would do differently would be to predrill the flange. I did a video on it as well. czcams.com/video/vbcuzod5uRQ/video.html

I may have missed the comment. but what gas combo do you use? and what pressure are you mostly using? thanks.
I use 75/25 mix and set the regulator to 15psi. Seems to work pretty good.
What size screws do you use self tappers and what diameter
the screws are called #8 x 3/4” long with a 5/16” head, you can pick the up at any hardware store, they also come in different lengths if need to pull panels together that are further apart.
Is the wire you use .030 or .023? Thanks..
I am use 0.030, I know that is larger the some like to use but it works great for me
Do you paint in between the metals first or You use Weldtru primer on the whole seam i’m getting ready to Apoxsee primer my Trans Am didn’t know if I should tape off the areas
I use weld thru primer on any seam i plan to weld. I would keep those areas clean of anything else.
I was thinking about using Apoxsee primer in between the metals and just wondering if I use a squared off drillbit and since I am drilling into it if it would without melting the Apoxsee primer
Any paint in a seam is better then nothing, the advantage of the weld thru over epoxy is during the welding process especially if plug welding it doesn’t burn and contaminate the weld. I tried using panel bonding adhesive on a seam and then came back and drilled for it do plug welding. The metal looked perfect and clean but as soon as I tried welding the adhesive melted and messed up the welds.
I would try a sample of the primer between some test panels and see how clean it welds first before I committed.
@@VinylVillageGarage OK I will do that I’ll probably just Weld tru primer I was just trying to skip a step my car is completely torn apart Do you have any way of checking if the framing square because I have no frame no roof no trunk literally nothing left to the car
@@ChrisJohnson-jw5mn that is a long answer. The short version is yes. It’s the how to that’s lengthy. I don’t have a frame table or body jig. I just have a 7’ bubble level and a tape measure and make it happen. It requires you to level the car what’s left of it and continuously do comparisons side to side as you reassemble it. In addition leave as many panels bolted on as possible too like trunk lid and doors to also inspect gaps and adjust as necessary
why do you not use a tig over the mig
biggest reason is I never learned how to tig weld, it’s on my bucket list you could say. I know there is pros and cons to mig vs tig.
