You HAVE to listen to Love by them itâs off their first album, and itâs heavy as crap
He isn't ready for back fuckin bone
Do The Cell, Space Time or Vacuity!
Hell yes!
Gojira - Clone
Really hope I'm not alone with this. This track is just pure, primal rage
Kimas Hjermind awesome song so is love and space time and lizard skin
best track to lift to
Dang it, and we need to get remembrance, death of me, embrace the world, esoteric surgery, all the tears, the way of all flesh, and Adoration For None into his ears. Thereâs just so much!
@@StrangerE0ns Cannot agree more, Adoration for None, especially!
That album as a whole is underrated
That's not the Gojira Slide you're hearing at the start there, it's just a pinch harmonic with a bend (they do use it quite often as well though)... The Gojira Slide is hard to describe in words.. It's more of a scrape than a slide to be honest
7:36 in your reaction is where the Gojira Slide kicks in Edit: ah you caught it haha
the gojira slide is like a pick scrape, but you glide your hand across the strings while you do it, then i think they layer it a few times on the records.
yup true
It sounds like a scraping sound because the notes are mostly if not all harmonics
It's also not a "Gojira Slide" so much as a "Morbid Angel - Nothing Is Not scrape"
Watch a video called "stuff Gojira does" and it'll give you the whole run down
That video is hillarious
Guhjina.
Gojira Florida Line
Also âOcean Planetâ is synonymous with âSea Worldâ
Gojira - Clone
Gojira - Remembrance (The Link Alive)
These two you must hear before you die.
..and also Gojira - Inward Movement is sick af
The whole Link Alive concert is mindblowing. Remembrance, Clone, in the Forest, blow me away you and space time are just too good!
@@Tritoness it's godly, indeed.
clone is fuckin heavy
I've always had a soft spot for this song. The part where he sings "Why do they call me there..." is so cathartic.
This is my first Love, i heard the album and was instantly mesmerized by it. Ocean Planet is SO great but many of their tracks are fantastic soooo many great songs.
FROM THE SKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY pls
Yessss from Bordeaux 2009
gojira - in the wilderness
Yes, that is one of the most underrated songs by them.
@@jed52 yep one of my favorites
Underrated af, love this track, really grew on my after 1st listen
The "gojira slide" is called the Gojira Pick scrape, there are some youtube videos teaching you how to do it! The high pinch you refer to at the end of the video are the "pinch harmonics"
Pls Gojira - wolf down the earth !
Great vid! Sadly, that is not the "Gojira slide," that is a "pinch" or "artificial" harmonic, another technique they use quite often. The "slide," or more commonly referred to as the Gojira "scrape" happens at 7:35 in your vid. Hope this helps! Keep up the great work and have an awesome day!
I think you will like 'world to come'. It sounds very light in the beginning and even a bit funky. But slowly, as longer the song gets, they will take you in to this atmosphere and it's just amazing. Very underrated song. Best band ever in my opinion.
I havenât seen anyone else suggest this, bit i would love to see you react to the From Mars/To Sirius combo. Those two songs played after eachother are so underrated.
This was the first Gojira I ever heard, and it's still my favorite.
Dont skeep:
Satan is a lawyer
Remembrance
Explosia
Yeaah satan is a lawyer is so damn heavy and evil. Love it.
he literally canât skip remembrance, itâs too good to skip
The Way of All Flesh is their best album after much consideration. Just as heavy if not heavier than FMTS but the meaning is so much deeper. That being said LS and Magma are also masterpieces. Terra Incognita and The Link never get enough love. So hard to quantify Gojira's discography.
Where dragons dwell!
Yeah that noise at the beginning is called a pinch harmonic as I'm sure many people have already told you. The "Gojira slide" that we're referring to is the noise you hear at 7:34
What you said about the drumming making you think of someone stuck in a room banging on the wall, that was BRILLIANT. I was like, oh sh*t, he's right, and now every time i listen to this song i get that image in my head, someone trapped in a room pounding on the wall with their fists. Very strong image and very symbolic.
This is my favorite GOJIRA song!
There is a band that you should react to when you will have time, it's The Dillinger Escape Plan. They are a groundbreaking and eclectic band that push the boundaries of music. The song Farewell, Mona Lisa would be a great start.
Gojira.inward movement one of they're best but its pretty underrated though.
There are 3 different sounds youâre mixing up. 1. In the song Stranded, the cat scream (also reminded me of a cat lol) like you say is done with a effect pedal, a pitch shifter. 2. That gnarly sound is just a pick scrape with the pick angled straight from down to up, that is the typical Gojira sound/trick. 3. That weeep in the start is a pinch harmonic, (not a slide) when hitting the string they slighty touch it with their finger simultaneously. (Itâs also something they use a lot but so do others), itâs definitely my favourite out of the three. Hope that helps.
Yeah, that's a pinch harmonic (+bend). Gojira slide is generally called a pick rake. Morbid Angel did it a lot.
Also the 'Gojira Slide' is a plectrum turned on its thin side and scraped upwards across all strings while lightly gliding the hand across the neck from head to body or vice versa
That squeal in the main riff is called a "pinch harmonic", which is basically using your thumb to divide the string into vibrating parts, thus raising the pitch.
The downward descending sound you described as "gnarly every time" is a pick scrape.
I fucking love your close up edit reactions to stuff LOL
the gojira slide is when the guitarist turns the pick almost vertical and slides it across the strings over the pick ups. they either leave their left hand in one spot or slide it down the neck simultaneously with the right hand while its doing the pick scrape. also you should listen to space time, its probably my favorite gojira riffs, and i think youâll like it.
He uses his left hand in a karate chop fashion and slides it edgewise across the board..it gives that screeching sound
Keep it going man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're killing it!
Definitely liking for that backbone tomorrow! Have the stretcher ready !
YESSSS! So happy you did this song! Thank you. Oroborus is another great song.
That sound you were refering to at the intro is called a pinch harmonic. That happens when your thumb and pick pinch the string making that high pitched sound. The "gojira slide" is you heard in the breakdown of the song is called a pick scrape, thats just when you lightly mute the strings with you left hand and drag the pick across all of the strings with you're right hand
you heard the gojira slide later in the slide. the thing in the beginning was a harmonic
gojira - global warming [live at the silver cord studio may 2018]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes
The one in the beginning is a pinch harmonic the one in the outro is a pick scrape it is caused by lightly scrapping the pick on the strings near the the pickups going from down to up,I love your reaction videos keep it up man!đ€
WOLF DOWN THE EARTH - GOJIRA
That's a weird way to spell Esoteric Surgery
Lmfaooooo yes
Loving the videos, dude!! Hello from Brazil! Try Explosia from Gojira!! Sick song
BACKBONE!!!!!!!
UPD: ohh now I see)
If you do the whole album, In The Wilderness is non-stop heavy, one of my favourite songs by them.
Interestingly, that note you referred to as a slide is a pinch harmonic, which is just one note. They also do loads of pick scrapes, which are the things you may be referring to as âGojira slidesâ lol. Just a bit of trivia. Really enjoy these videos
Edit: I also would highly recommend Where Dragons Dwell from the album From Mars to Sirius
6:45 is pure heaven
This talk about slides reminded me of Wintersun - "Sons of Winter and Stars". You need to react to the live rehearsal of that song, because that's the superior version!
Power Trip - Divine Apprehension
Power Trip - Hornetâs Nest
Power Trip - Crucifixation
A band named Carbomb takes the Gojira slide to the next level. Check out their song called Sets.
LOVE THIS VIDEOS MAN.. DO WHERE DRAGONS DWELL LIVE NEXT !
THE CELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you listen to it alot you'll love it in terms of the album as Gojira songs go, you love them the more you hear them
KEEP DOING THEEEESE
You made me so excited when you said your gonna do the whole albumđ„, love the reactions, when you do the album make sure you do the songs "from mars" "to Sirius" back to back, like in the same video. It works the same way that Parabol/Parabola does for tool. Please keep the reactions coming:) Global Warming, Oroborus, and Pain is Master are great as well.
It's a bent pinch harmonic, the more not-unrated songs are more slidey so it's more recognized, that spacy noise is the pinch harmonic, which i felt the same space way about them! Lol
From the sky, embrace the world, in the wilderness, backbone and Oroborus, all great songs which you should try | Edit: towards the end/the end of the song, is where they use the actual gojira slide thing, not the one at the start
Magma !!!
It's time to see "Stuff Gojira does" it helps you understand what they do but is also a pretty fun video at the same time
I'm glad you did this one; for a lot of us this was the first track we ever heard by the band because FMTS was the first album of theirs that got any mainstream attention. The look on your face at 6:34 is a perfect synopsis of the way I felt the first time I threw it into my CD player in 2005. So good.
Ocean Planet!! And also Mouth of Kala is awesome
YES
I have only 1 request From Mars To Sirius
To make that sound you turn your pick vertically and scrape the strings while simultaneously lightly laying your fingers on the strings to create a scraped natural harmonic sound.
Drew!! You gotta react to
The Contortionist: Language 1 & 2 back to back! I've been waiting for a more popular channel to react to Language 1 and 2. That band doesn't get the recognition they deserve. It's a fookin journey!
Drew...you need to work on experiencing pantera soon. One of the best metal bands ever. Two of the best musician siblings together. Dimebag on guitar and Vinnie Paul on drums. Just like Joe and Mario in Gojira. đ€đŒ
Literally went to comment a suggestion for this song like 2 mins after this uploaded. Lmao
This IMO is probably one of their best intro tracks to an album if not, Their best
Esoteric Surgery and Clone are some of the best songs by Gojira!
Yessss more Gojira. You should listen to the whole concept album. Very spiritual \m/ keep 'em coming!!!!
Just in case you really want to do all songs keep in mind that it's a concept album. not every track on this works as standalone piece. Imho the songs come best in an album run from start to finish, the flow is awesome.
And whoever came up with "Gojira slide", this technique wasn''t invented by this band. you were able to hear it - rhythm defining - from bands like Machine Head or Fear Factory much earlier. I have no idea which guitarist came up first (if it really matters at all), but i would bet my ass that guys like Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Beck or Steve Vai have used it at least for a guitar solo.
You are doing this in an excellent order. From Mars to Sirius is by far the best intro album to Gojira. I'd continue with the albums in order then going back to The Link and Terra Incognito :) BTW....do Love si vous plait :)
Gojira - Clone next. And actually 2:14 is just a pinch harmonic. The gojira slide thing you're referring to is the pick slide they do
I rarely comment on youtube but I would like to recommend a band called "In Flames". I havent seen too much of them in your comments section which is a shame.
They really were the gateway band into metal for me and alot of my friends about 15 years ago. Check out "Only for the Weak" off of their "Clayman" album.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy watching your videos!
Absolutely love your Gojira reactions! Be sure to check out the live versions of Where Dragons Dwell and Global Warming, it will just absolutely blow you away
Haha bro it's the sound when you scratch the cords with the plectrum muting the cords with the left hand (or right for left-handed), if you move the fingers at different positions of the neck the sound change because of the properties of the sound, also you have to put the plectrum facing up to get less attack from the cord, like when you strums with fingers
Whereeeee dragons dwellllll plllllllllllzzzzzzzxx
It has to be the live Hellfest version not the album version. The live version is amazing.
Good video. The pick scrape is my favorite aspect of their music. For another time, try the King gizzard album Infest the Rats' Nest (thrash psychedelic metal). "Superbug"for something slow but heavy, and "Organ Farmer" for fast pace epicness
"gojira slide" he refers to is a pinch harmonic, the slide is towards the end of the song and sounds more like a scrape
backbone is banging
We seem to like and dislike the same songs, iâm pretty sure you wont like backbone and where dragons dwell as much as everyone else. Just watch remembrance, blow me away you, clone or space time from the link alive. Thatâs what Gojira is all about.
The 3rd Chemical Brother not unless he watches the live version of those songs.
Backbone is fantastic
GOJIRA - Adoration for none (it features Randy Blythe from Lamb Of God) his voice is insane on this track
The first "thing: you mentioned the gojira slide is actually a Pinch Harmonic being bent up, you can call them pinch harmonics. The second thing that came up is a pick scrape. You do them by scraping rhe pick pick across all of the strings (you can give them tonality by sliding with your hand or doing them on top of the natural harmonics.) Hope you found this interesting. :)
Such a good song
Seeing as you're pretty accustomed to the french boyz of Gojira. You have to try Wisdom Comes from the album The Link. Im not quite sure you're at this level just yet as its literally pure, no nonsense, in your face Death Metal
For realz...you need to hit remembrance from their link alive show.
gojira-this emptiness!!!!
I dont know if anyone else recommended these, but please check out animals as leaders (maybe arithmophibic or the woven web) and alien weaponry (kai tangata or ru ana te whenua)
Or Wave of Babies!
Drew! Welcome back! Have you check out Japanese Metal band Maximum the Hormone? đș
Gotta listen to Explosia, crazy guitar
The Gojira slide gives me pirate vibes some reasonđŽââ ïž
Underrated gojira songs nobody reacts to
Where dragons dwell
The axe
Mouth of kala
Yamas Messengers
Low lands.
Honestly from mars to Sirius, magma, and the way of all flesh are great start to finish but you would definitely like the above songs for sure.
7:38 that's the gojira slide!
I'll continue my shouting out for you to check out Mastodon, their tracks Halloween, Jaguar God or The Last Baron for starters.
Oh man, you like guitar riffs and groove, Mastodon have them both in loads :)
whats that awesome background music you have playing at the start, and at the end as well ? really good stuff
I would recommend Mouth of Kala itâs pretty underrated
The thing you heard in the beginning is not the gojira slide that's just a pitch harmonic
First time too sounds great!! i'll buy this album From Mars to Sirius
Gotta do backbone next
my friends and i will randomly yell "DUGGA DUGGA DUGGA DUGGA DUGGA WEEAAAAARRRR!" to each other xD
you NEED to react to Ne Obliviscaris - and plague flowers the kaleidoscope
Drew if you do the entire album, youâve got to listen to From Mars and to Sirius in one run
What I do mike, is that you are curious, and go search how they do the "slides"...I like that behaviour man!
Gojira - remembrance The Link Alive live video! Itâs sooooo good!
Hey just found your channel really enjoying the Gojira videos Iâm a huge fan of Gojira but I thought I suggest a wild card for a different band to listen to potentially later that you might find interesting theyâre called psychedelic porn crumpets and the track I would recommend would be cornflake just a suggestion there wild
