Ps: For any ‘Steven Wilson’ fans - I’ve got a video coming for you guys later🤟🏼
If you can try listening to a song by Vildhjarta. They're pretty heavy but they got that djent sound like Gojira.
React to Gojira - Blow Me Away (Niverse)
Other Gojira tracks:
Death of Me
Remembrance
Love
Pray
Mouth of Kala
Not Gojira:
Passionflower by Jon Gomm. (I'm telling you you're gonna love iiiittttt)
Hey Drew, have you thought about getting a pair of hi-fi headphones? A solid pair of cans, especially with large drivers, can really enhance the listening experience :)
Mate please do at least 'From the Sky' in the 'From Mars to Sirius album'. It's a great song and you will not regret it one bit. It'll perfectly round off the album. Was eagerly waiting for that after the 'Where Dragons Dwell' reaction :(
I still question if that's actually Mario. This dude is wearing a shirt.
This album is flawless. I can’t even count how many times I have listened to it and I get mad goosebumps every single time.
Ikr what an amazing journey it is
I once showed my metal hating friend who loves the ocean the song "flying whales" and he loved it. For the first 3 minutes. He loved the whale noises, but not the actual music.
One of the only albums ever I enjoyed every single track
Yeah same Gojira good band and your helping save animals so its win win on every album
mario is a beast, you have NO ideia how hard is to keep that left hand going like that the whole song
You should DEFINITELY do their next album The Way of All Flesh in its entirety too. However, I know that doing full album rundowns is not feasible, so I'll tell you one song which you will love for sure. It's the title track "The Way of All Flesh". Try to listen to the live version, but even the album version is fine. It's not a highly requested song but trust me, it will be a phenomenal listen.
i agree
I can only agree
I still think it's their best song
agreed, The Way of All Flesh is #2 for me after The Art of Dying. Followed by Vacuity/Esoteric Surgery tied, then Oroborus/A Sigh to Behold also tied
My fav gojira song of all time
Remembrance from the link alive
Sad we will not see "From Mars to Siruis" and "From the sky" two of my favorites.....but still love your reactions man, check out Oroborus off "The way of all flesh" album. Its solid!!!
I agree but we still got the whole album almost so its good
He's really missing out on From The Sky though... The breakdown gives me huge goosebumps every fucking time
Ric Aran I might consider it!🙏🏻
@@DrewFortune97 😁
Yes!!
Dude from the sky is awesome it's such a shame I won't see your reaction. But, since you're off of this album, vacuity is a must listen
For their first two albums (Terra Incognita and The Link - which you haven't heard any songs from yet) I'd suggest Blow Me Away You(niverse) and Remembrance
Try In Maidjan by Heilung! It's incredibly unique and will absolutely blow you away.
My only wish now is for you to react to Gojira - Clone. Definition of heavy
Really glad you reacted to this video gojira are so technical and heavy it’s amazing. I know your not probably going to react to a lesser known song but embrace the word is an amazing track off the link album one of there older songs.
One of my favourites and severely underrated IMO. Don't want to ruin the surprise but I love the alternative singing style he adds - it's damn heavy too.
you should do livestreams listening to full albums, i would totally watch those and im sure others would too
MASTODONNNNN, The czar, the last baron, sleeping giant!
March of the fireants, Carpatheon forest, blood and thunder, Jaguar God. They have so many good songs.
also suggest steam breather from them
octopus has no friends
Trainwreck, Iron Tusk, Elephant Man, Hearts Alive..., the first 4 albums are classics in my book. I also like the other albums, but not as much.
Remembrance off The Link album is one of my favorites you'll like it for sure
Just missed first like :( This Emptiness by Gojira next please its so damn heavy
Also the part you said about bassist not being recognised, Primus are like mainly focused on the bass and they're funky as hell
Gojira - From the Sky (Live Bordeaux) MUST SEE THAT LIVE
Do as you wish with your reactions! I'm just glad to see people really dig this music. Since you have already digged into their more recent records, I say jump into their first full-length record! Terra Incognita! Cheers 🤘
Gojira - C L O N E
Gojira Vacuity, Rememberence, Oroborus
Gojira got me through a bunch of my college exams. Helped me focus when I was studying.
this song is such powerfull, taking you to another level, like trance music, it s crazy the snare from start to the end, and the riff is so hard to keep playing clean during allll the song. Masterpiece
React to Gojira - Blow Me Away (Niverse)
Love, space time, clone, blow me away you, and Remembrance, all from the link alive, Clone And Blow me away you also studio version. Just watch Remembrance @the link alive, that’s what Gojira is about!
Amen
Gojira - The Shooting Star off of Magma
Yes.
Needs to be the recording at radio 1
Hey Drew, thanks for keeping us entertained, maybe check out Bring back the Plague by Cattle Decapitation (the lyrical content isn't always what you would expect 😂) thanks 👌
I was really down today. At least Drew popped up at the end of the day.
karl jonson my man Karl, hope you’re doing well buddy hang in there ❤️
Just as a fun side track adventure, you should check some of Mario's drum solos that he releases in their studio! Great quality sound and great entertainment!
Do Magma or the way of all flesh as the next albums
I imagined you listened to the official song after, but the one part in this live version that doesn’t do justice is the 2nd heavy drop. Joes vocals send chills doen my spine in that part. “HEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYHYYYYEEEEYYYY”
I’m late as hell to this lol but as far as the bass player goes, gojira does a great job at having his bass be high in the mix. I couldn’t imagine the sound of the band without Jean Michelle, he adds such a beefiness to the songs in studio and live. Plus him and Mario have great chemistry and they both bounce off each other the most
Whith this song there's always a tear they really feel it
Listen to "The Shooting Star" or "Inward Movement"
Just notice how many ghost notes Mario is playing on the snare
Mario Duplantier has the busiest left hand of any drummer in metal ever! You don't really realize it but it there, but ghost notes aren't heard they're felt and god this reply is getting long sorry I just really love his playing style lmfao
what are ghost notes?
@@andlarse ghost notes are hitting one of the drum heads (mostly the snare) very lightly, so it isn't emphasized and can easily be missed. If you watch mario's left hand he's constantly hitting the snare but more softly than his right hand. Those are ghost notes. Another great song with ghost notes is aenima by tool! :)
Matthew Curtis was just playing along to aenima today and I didn’t even know there were ghost notes until I found myself playing them, just further proves that their felt more than heard
@@cryaesthetic3603 - And his left hand is exclusively doing that, since it's the right hand that is playing the beat of the song.
After you listen to the full album in your hon Tim you should b make a small video of how are you enjoying the full album
Hej Drew, I'm really enjoying your reactions so far, it's great to see you enjoy this beautiful music so much. More Gojira will always be very welcome, but I though I'd give one suggestion for another Prog-Metal band, and also I'd like to request a band, if you're up for it. Might be a bit to early for the request, but whatever :D
So, the suggestion: Between the Buried and Me. It's a really diverse band, the music is full of changeups and unexpected turns. Since you seem to enjoy the Prog, I'd thought you might like them. They're not as approachable as bands like Gojira, but totally worth it, I promise! I'd suggest a song like "Sun of Nothing" or "The Ectopic Stroll", but you can't really go wrong with any of their music.
As for the request: I'd really like to see you do Mizmor - Cairn to God. Mizmor is a very interesting one-man-project. I'd highly suggest reading an interview on the latest album, the guy is genuine and really has something to tell with his music. Knowing his background takes the music to another level emotionally. Mizmor is definitely not something you have listened before, he calls his music "Wholly Doomed Black Metal". Might not be your cup of tea. But I'd really love to see what you think.
If you like studio live performances dip your toe into the mad world of 'Between the Buried and Me' with "Extremophile Elite"
Dude don't be afraid to say Mario is your favorite drummer! He's one of the best if not the best in his genre in our era we live in!
nice, I'm glad you did this version, the album version pales in comparison.
Also, Esoteric Surgery is on The Way of All Flesh and that's absolutely what album you should do next from the bois
I'll continue my shouting out for you to check out Mastodon, their tracks Halloween, Jaguar God or The Last Baron for starters.
Oh man, you like guitar riffs and groove, Mastodon have them both in loads :)
Halloween is a great jumping off point, the last two albums have cleaner vocals and are, dare I say it, easier listening :) than the earlier stuff.
Jaguar God is the kind of music that I didn;t think got made anymore and The Last Baron has a real beauty of a riff.
Thank you! Finally some love for the bass! 🙌 you sir have earned my sub! 😆
Glad you did this one. Probably my favorite song from them.
If you get the chance check out Isis-Dulcinea
REMEMBRANCE 🤯 Studio or live from the link alive tour! 🤘 The intro is crazy, and then the slower heavy bit towards the end is just soo h-e-a-v-y 🤘 Dare I say, soulblowing? ;)
Please check out a song on their first album (Terra Incognita). I recommend Space Time, Love, Clone, or Blow me Away!!!
Ya if you do from mars then do to sirius, theres a youtube vid of both songs merged, its definitely the way its meant to be heard on the album, kinda makes to sirius a weird start without an intro.
Hey Drew. I have a suggestion for an awesome live studio performance since you said you think they’re the pinnacle of content to react to! TesseracT performing the full Concealing Fate portion of their album One. It’s proggy, djenty, groovy and fucking glorious. Mainly clean vocals with sparse harsh vocals. Think you’ll really dig it. I can’t find a link to one single video with all the parts, only the individual ones which is a pain in the ass because they all flow seamlessly, but it’ll be worth it to find them and play them in sequence. 😍
Heya! If you want to listen to a track in which the bass functions as lead, listen to Hysteria by Muse! Awesome song, and very different from your other reactions. Love the vids, keep rocking man \m/
I agree that live studio videos are better than most live concert videos regarding audio quality. As to more Gojira since you've already hit the standout album, I suggest you start with either their first album or their most recent album and go in chronological order, forward or backward.
Check out Oroborous, Toxic Garbage Island, Vacuity, and/or The Art of Dying off The Way of All Flesh next! That's their album they released after From Mars to Sirius. TWOAF is the quintessential Gojira album to me. They really stepped up their game in terms of songwriting, tones, and heaviness. The double kick speed on Art of Dying is fucking ridiculous.
Next you definitely gotta check out Gojira's album Terra Incognita. The songs Space Time, Blow Me Away You(niverse), Love, Clone. Literally any song off this album will blow your mind. This was their debut album and they knew the sound they wanted right from the start. I HIGHLY suggest this album so you can see where they started.
Now imagion this live, a completely packed stadium and everyone is singing "we will see our children growing" in unison! Just imagion the fucking energy that would give of! It'd make a grown man cry
the way of all flesh should be the next album! Its a BANGER! i would suggest oroborus as the first reaction, its a groovy and a creative song. And the song esoteric surgery after that.
Drew 100% would enjoy "the way of the flesh" better as an album
loved your reaction to the pick scrape live 😂😂😂😂😂🤩🤩🤩!!!!
May I suggest giving Alter Bridge a try? Myles Kennedy is thee premiere rock singer around at the moment, and Mark Tremonti's guitar playing is so tasteful yet blisteringly technical. Great band! As for Gojira, get stuck into the rest of their latest album "Magma". Also Mastodon! So many amazing bands for you too check out man, its exciting and refreshing seeing someone discover all these great tunes for the first time. Keep it up man!
"From the sky" from the Mars to sirius album has a beautiful and heavy melody. You will love it
When you go back to Gojira again, please consider listening to one of these. They are all very distinctive and I’m sure you’ll love any of them!
- Mouth of Kala
- Explosia
- Oroborus
- Esoteric Surgery
- From the Sky
- World to Come
Hi Andrew, could you please do a reaction on" Arriving somwwhere but not here (live)" by Porcupine Tree?
Great reactions btw
My dream lineup TOOL, Deftones special guest Gojira
If you like bass prog, check out Tesseract - Of Matter (Live at Sphere Studios)
Gojira has some relly good basslines aswell. Go back and listen to the bass line at the start of "Flying Whales"!
Hey drew,
I really enjoyed the Album The way of All flesh, maybe you could Do Some more Songs from that one. I only found gojira a few weeks ago and listened to the way of All flesh and from mars to Sirius the most. I absolutely love those two albums.
Some other metal bands/Songs you could do:
Machine head - davidian
Hypocrisy - hell is where i stay
Kataklysm - crippled and broken
Chimaira - cleansation
And yes, Bass players dont get enough Credit, mainly because they are mostly in the background, but if they werent there AT all something would definately be missing.
Great song, great album, great musicians! Thanks for getting me back to Gojira! One last mention since I agree on the 'live studio' concept; Russian Circles! Instrumental trio, really creative. Might even blow some (metal) people on your channel away ;)
Great song, and great analysis (re: bass in this kind of music)!!
If you'd like a similar studio session, a foreign band, *and* a neat/subtle (but amazing) bass line - check out "Awakening" by Unleash the Archers, too! :)
(I think Karl would approve!)
I'm a bassist. I love it when you can hear the bass properly. I love metal, but sometimes it's hard to pick out the bass in there mix. It's usually buried behind 2 guitars, drummer, and singer. I love playing bass, but it's definitely not an instrument everyone immediately notices.
Hi there ! As someone else suggested I would love for you to upload a quick a review of the album as a whole :)
Where to go from there ? By album I would suggest :
"Only Pain" and "Magma" from Magma
"This Emptiness" and "Explosia" from L'enfant Sauvage
"Adoration for none" and "Esoteric Surgery" from The Way of all Flesh
"Remembrance" (I enjoy the live version more for this one) and "Inward Movement" from The Link
"Love" and "Blow Me Away You(niverse)" from Terra Incognita
Hope your doing well, greetings from France !
Mastodon and Baroness is the next bands you need to check out
The drums is what makes Gojira. The riffs are pretty simple, it’s the drums that make it.
You don't know shit I'd you think that..get ur head outta ur ass and see their discography. They have tapping riffs, off time, tremelo and way more.
@@nikelodeon6852 That doesn't mean it's difficult, most of the songs are very simple.
@@wannabeserpento99 I wouldn't call heaviest matter or toxic garbage island or clone easy songs but whatever 🤷
Hesusfkr well they’re very unique though, that’s what makes gojira, the drumming and the heavy and unique riffs
@@nikelodeon6852 Simple doesn't mean bad, you simpleton.
I think going through the best of The Way of all Flesh from 2008 is a good way to go
I've been a bass player for 17 years now. It feels like depending on the genre you play in equals your "credit" your get from people. But usually its just guitar and drums that pop out. Bass for me is like the foundation of a house, you can't see is but everything is built up from it.
Gojira is truly on a league of their own with their music. Some bands come close but none can really touch gojira
Good, bien bien. & Bon choix Drew. Good choice. Great live performance par l'incroyable groupe Gojira.
May as well jump into The Way of All Flesh and the track Vacuity. Killer song, criminally underrated.
as a bass player you are drowned out by the guitar but the feeling at your finger tips of playing such low notes feels so powerful
idk how many times I said this at this point but you need to checkout explosia
Amine Wali Alami patience my friend
If your looking for a driving group that really balances ALL instruments including the bass..check out any songs from either the albums Powerslave or Somewhere in Time by Iron Maiden =) Mind blowing stuff that most modern metal have inspiration from
Time to explore the album The Way of All Flesh. Oroborous and Vacuity will blow your brains!!
Yeah, the bass! :)
You will love The Last Baron by Mastodon and Mirage by Leprous
Logically speaking I think the best place to go is listen to some more of the album Magma. More melodic and that seems to be what you are into in general.
I'd go for Shooting Stars, the live BBC version. Filmed/recorded just like Global Warning is here.
Tell us what you thought about World to Come and To Sirius in the future. And please please please do more off of The Way of All Flesh. Esoteric Surgery, Vacuity, Wolf Down the Earth atleast one of those.
You didn't hear anything from their first two albums, you can react to Clone or Remembrance
I'd say The way of all Flesh is their peak album. But some of their older ones like Terra Incognita and The Link are also very, ehm.. special :)
Loved the reaction. On the next album you should check out Oroborus and A Sight to Behold
Great reaction, looking forward to even more gojira and to more Ne Obliviscaris
Time to listen to the "L'enfant Sauvage " album , let's go in order @Mark Jonson
Love your reaction videos 👍
man Gojira's bass player is actually insanely talented. check out Blow Me Away You(Niverse) - the intro is done by the bassist, you will see where I'm coming from. he takes much more of a back seat after their first album to make more room for tasty guitar riffs but in doing so fills his role perfectly. definitely underrated. I'm a lil biased though as a bassist myself!
also, we bassists may generally be the quiet ones of our bands but we low key the coolest mfers. and women dig those long wave vibrations... sit on a bassist's amp and you will understand why ;)
way I like to think of it is this: the bassist connects the rhythm section with the melody, working with the rhythm to add that extra intensity where required and providing the foundation for the melody to build off of. a good bassist should tie it all together without being intrusive. the result as you say is that it often goes unappreciated but without it the track just won't hit the same.
jesus I really am the only one repping their first album huh. why doesn't it get the love? sure it's a different vibe, much more leaning towards death metal but there are some serious grooves in there! why does no one appreciate?!
Another Gojira video like this - The Shooting Star live at the radio 1 studio
More like gojira, Mastodon - Blood & Thunder
For heavyness - Black Tongue - Eternal road to ruin or Second Death
Yes, he needs to listen to mastodon. Black tongue is an awesome track
@@jeremyward6602 i mean black tongue as in the band not mastodon's song!
@@darkbeing88 oh haha
while it might be better for him to go to prog metal more I wouldnt mind how he'd see how he'd find a bit more doom seeing he braved IA
This band is in my top 5 of the Best. 🔥💯🤘
Oh yes, go through "From mars to sirius", trust me, the trip is worth every second ! I think it's their best album to this day, the most organic, almost living entity ! The production is amazing. Some of their most incredible tracks (Backbone, Ocean Planet... well all of them actually), the track "World to come" is a trip itself. I stop here, I can talk for hours just about this album ^^ But I suggest you just take it for yourself, with your headphones from the start to the end. I really enjoy what you do, but you really should go through it by yourself, your journey from Mars...to Sirius.
You might be ready for MASTODON.
imagine not listening to Inward Movement from their 2nd album
he is very underated (bass) imo but if you see Gojira live his stage presence is one of the best out there
"The way of all Flesh" is the best Gojira album!!!
my favorite too
Do Planned Obsolecence or Remembrance next please! Or if not Gojira id suggest doing a react on Opeth Demon of the Fall live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Its just amazing.
Drew! You finally did GW live! Nice!
Oh man youd love from the sky tho and from mars is badass af and to sirius are you fucking kidding me bro? And feel the light enter meeee!!! 🎵🤘
React to John longstreth he’s a legend in the drumming scene and every performance is top tier from him and the band origin
Your missing From the Sky off the Mars to Sirius album
if you want a cool live studio performance from a different band, try Awakening by Unleash The Archers. I don't think you've done any power metal yet so it could be an interesting little side video
Global Warming is the best way to end an album. You get your ears blasted for an entire album and than get sent off with a warm Gojira hug 😂 .. would love to hear your reaction to the entire album. If you read this I’d recommend doing the Album ‘The way of all flesh’ next since it’s in order really.
