Gojira is a fun rabbit hole. The stuff off the Magma album is more accessible while their older stuff is full fledged death metal. All of it great. They are also one of the best live bands in metal.

I'd recommend "Silvera" or "Stranded" if you want a little less heavy, still two of their most popular songs though!

Flying whales and heaviest matter of the universe is like jumping directly into the deep end of the pool. Other tracks are more melodic and not as abrasive. I'd suggest some of my favorites like wolf down the earth, the axe, the gift of guilt
Wolf Down The Earth is a massively underrated song in my opinion. Honestly, I think you're the only person I've seen mention it in any comments. That song is phucking powerful dude.

Gojira is a band that I have to be in a mood for, for sure. "Lowlands" is more mellow yet heavy.
One of my favourite gojira songs, it's got such a dark vibe but really mellow compared to a lot of their stuff.

The morbid irony of Magma is that the album is steeped in grief over their mother having recently died and it ended up winning them a Grammy, something I'm sure their mother would love to have seen.

Thomas Ricci the live version will sit very well with him I think. Seeing them play is even more intense and emotional than the studio version sometimes!!! Any live video by them too is good.

That ending scene was class- hard to decipher all the same if you actually liked what ya had heard!! The album that both songs youve heard are from, is from 2006, and its an acclaimed album that brought them to the forefront. That album is full on heavy, and yes they did indeed progress into more melodic, progressive territories since, whilst retaining intensity and kick ass riffing. I know youve prolly read here already- but more recent tracks like " The shooting Star", "Silvera" and the excellent "Stranded" are easier to get into, especially if what youve heard so far is understandably a bit of a shock to the senses! I dunno if others have mentioned to ya here, but Gojira themselves come from a coastal town in France,and a lot of their songs and lyrical statements deal with the Environment, nature and issues like climate change. Fair fucks to ya mate, for givin Gojia a go! Mite not be yer cupĂĄn tae to begin with, but check the more recent stuff out aswell mate,and see how ya do with those.

Everything about this song is metal. This is definitely one of their top 3 greatest songs easily. In my opinion, of all the metal out there, this is top 20, maybe 10, greatest metal songs ever. In my opinion.

You would not believe how hype this is live! I've seen it both sitting and standing, sitting was hype, but in the mosh pit pretty much the whole song is crazy.

Gojira is so good. Have to agree Silvera and Stranded are probably their most accessible songs. Born in Winter has a great build up. The music video for Lowlands is really cool.

Another heavy and emotional band is fit for an autopsy, especially their stuff off The Great Collapse and The Sea Of Tragic Beasts albums
Another thing I dig about these guys, they are fighting for a cause. They donate to nature conservation efforts and help support animal rehab centers n' such. Guys have heart and I can get behind that.

Always great fun to watch someone just discovering Gojira and just getting smacked over the head with their rawness! Been a big fan of these guys for a couple of years now and going to get to see them for my third time this summer!

Would be interesting to see you react to the Irish metal band Primordial, specifically the song The Coffin Ships, either the album version or the live version from Redemption festival in Dublin.
If you do any more Gojira and want something a bit different, I.e a bit more accessible or melodic then try Born In Winter, Low Lands or Shooting Star. For the heavier ones, something from the art of dying album like Toxic Garbage Island, Esoteric Surgery or even the masterpiece that is the title track.

This was pretty much identical to my reaction to this song the first time. Absolutely mind blown by this band a few years ago and got to see them at Sonic Temple last year. Everything we hear is as real as it can be

Definitely try Low Lands by these guys if you want something that starts softer but pregresses into something a bit heavier. I think its the song I use when I want to warm someone up to metal :)

You've hit the nail on the head, they're a progressive or "Prog" band, everything they do is a concept album or track of somesort with a over-arching message or theme to a full album.
This whole album basiclly has the message "Save our planet and start today", the whales are meant to be the ones we should look to, they were here before us and they'll be here long after, so they're the first to leave and tell us we've wrecked the gaff. Whales pop up a lot in their music actually. Painted like "God-like" entities we need to learn from.

I always considered them the death metal version of Tool hahaha. Anyways songs you should also check out by Gojira Toxic Garbage Island, The Forest, The Art Of Dying, Remembrance, Ocean Planet, Love. You really should check out Enter Shikari, my favorite band since I first heard them. "Arguing with thermometers" would be nice to start I think - They are very versatile, every song is like an experience for itself!
