    Hi Guys,
    It's huge to see that today because I grew up with the guys in the band (Mario, Joe, Christian and Jean-Michel) when we were only 15 or 16, we all lived in the south-west of France in the early 90s.
    At that time we had our respective metal bands, they were already focused on Death-Metal while my band was more in the Groove-Metal style.
    A little anecdote, at the time, they were not called Gojira but Godzilla. this album was recorded and produced in France in the Basque country in a small studio.
    We often met on the different small festivals, rock springboard and concerts that they had in our countryside where nothing ever happened. They came from the town of Ondres on the border of the Basque Country and the Landes, and we came from Mimizan, a seaside village on the Atlantic Ocean but situated further north in the middle of nowhere in the department of the Landes.
    Today they became enormous stars but at the time, we were just pimply teenagers with a passion for metal music going to school during the week and playing in small concerts on the weekends.
    Since then, we've lost sight of each other, I live abroad and I've chosen another professional career path (even if I'm still a metal drummer .. just for the fun of jamming), and to see you today analyzing their music is a sweet mix between stupefaction (positive) and proud to have grown and evolved with them when we were younger.
    In our native Southwest it is an immense pride to see his guys as nice in life as talented on stage being seen and heard around the world.
    I can assure you that they left from nothing, because I was there, at the beginning it was only a small metal band that played on weekends in concerts where there were not more than ten people sometimes in the room.
    they climbed the notoriety ladder one by one only by the sweat of their perseverance and their work. It's really great to see them being analyzed from the U.S.A.
    Good job dudes and thank you for them.

    I've been a metal head my whole life so I have the ear and taste for the growling and yelling, but I also understand that the screaming factor in metal is the biggest contributing reason for people being turned off of metal, especially the good and heavy stuff. But I feel that Gojiras vocals, although still a scream/growl, is done is such a way that speaks to most listeners immediately as something unique, authentic and powerful. He's not screaming to sound nasty or heavy, there is so ego or image; he's screaming as a man, as a human, and when we hear that voice, along with songs like these, I think that it speaks to you on a primal level which is why so many Gojira fans feel a 'spiritual' appeal to the music and become life long fans. Awesome vid guys!

    Haha what an awesome video. Glad you guys are on the Gojira grind. Been a metal fan most of my life and honestly Gojira and other progressive metal bands are doing something incredible with their music. The beauty of prog metal is that every band is so different while still in the same genre. Some artists are more jazz influenced or others come from basic rock with strange time signatures thrown in there. I'm no expert on it but its really good for getting perspective on genres you may not actively listen to as well as giving a more open mind to said genres. If I were to recommend a song it would be the song "687 Days" by the artist "David Maxim Micic". It's instrumental but the video is brilliant and shows how creative the writing process is and also how other elements such as electronic music can fit in to metal and rock.

      Allan Cunha It's a 12 minutes song with a long (but amazing) outro.
      Harlequin forest has great lyrics and is a bit shorter, a 12 min song might scare them off. I would've ask for Blackwater Park

    I discovered Gojira 4 weeks ago, first song was stranded, and I swear I literally been playing all there albums catching up. They are literally all I listen at the moment . I'm a metalhead and I got mad at my self because it's 2019 and I'm barely intune of gojira. But now they on my top 3 of all time. And I say this again, they all I listen to literally!!!!!!!!

    The other best part about Gojirs is the growl, and how his words are still totally clear. You can hear the lyrics, and they take the initiative to harmonize the growl with the song instead of just a scream over top.

  • @extrabigasstaco1

    Gojira is an immensely unique band. Nobody has tone like them. When a Gojira song comes on, you immediately know who is playing. From the loud mix of the percussion, to the chugging overdriven guitars to those awesome guitar scrapes, uniquely Gojira. Glad to see you guys remaining open minded about music and digging on some music even though you can't understand the lyrics. I guess now you understand why people dig that loud screamy noise that is Metal. And to answer your question: Yes, this is good.

      "Gojira is an immensely unique band. Nobody has tone like them"
      No, I'm sorry but they're not. The first thing that makes me think when I hear their sound is "something akin to Lamb of God, but a tad softer".
      I, for one, found their sound incredibly generic. Not bad sounding, the instrumental at least is good... but generic.

    • @extrabigasstaco1
      @extrabigasstaco1 Před 6 lety +8

      StirbMensch I have to disagree here. When talking about tone, LoG and Gojira sound nothing alike. When talking about writing sound, they sound nothing alike. The only overlap (maybe) would be the mix on their drums. Both have very loud drums in their mix but Mario and Chris have TOTALLY different playing styles. Mario focuses on traditional rudiments and Chris on classic metallic speed.

    • @StirbMensch
      @StirbMensch Před 6 lety

      Like I said in one of my comments on the video, it was the first band that came to my head as far as modern metal is concerned that have a similar vibe.
      I'm aware that Chris Adler has a different style than this, but I (personally) feel that there is a slight similarity.

      A big thing that makes Gojira stand out is their songwriting, you won’t find typical metal guitar shred solos in their songs. They know how to keep grooves going that fit the song. If I could describe this band in one word, it would be BIG. They have a BIG sound.

    • @thebatman1482
      @thebatman1482 Před 6 lety +3

      StirbMensch Lamb of God Is TOTALLY different from Gojira from my point of view. One Is more groovy and more American sounding, the other Is progressive with lots of grooves and punchy riffs that are intricate and unpredictable. A lot of Gojira's riffs make me think about mountains and nature
