Wheel Vibration? Infiniti (Nissan Maxima) CV Axles Replacement

  • This video will show you how I replaced the driver's and passenger side CV axles on a 97' Infiniti I30. The procedure should be nearly identical if working on a Nissan Maxima (The I30 is based off of the Maxima chassis, engine and transmission). The outer boots on both the left and right side axles were split. I could have replaced the boots but was fortunate to find replacement rebuilt axles on sale each for under $30. Replacement boots on these axles usually cost $15 or more. Cardone is the rebuilder and has an excellent reputation as an aftermarket parts provider. Although the cv axles in this video are being replaced due to split boots, damaged or worn cv bearings, bearing cages and/or bent axles will result in wheel vibration that will require replacement.

    Hi. Old video but useful. Thank you. Just replace the RH CV axle on my Infiniti 2000. The stealership had replaced both of them 10,000 km ago (With garbage obviously). I wasn't going to go and see them again. Your video convinced me I could do it. I watched a few (Vids) and yours was by far the best and was my bible. It was work but I am proud of the work. Drive so nicely now. No more horrible noise when turning a corner. Thanks again

    Dude, you saved my bacon on this repair! I have both the Chiltons and Factory service manuals, but there were a few wrinkles your video ironed out nicely for me. Many thanks for helping me get my daughter's 1998 I30 back on the road.

    Great video....step by step. I also noticed you used duck bill pliers for the cotter pins - which I see as a great idea. Amazing that a vehicle that old had the 3 tough areas fairly loose.....the pass. side bearing (not rusted in place), and BOTH sides had the axle splines just slide right out. I never get that lucky!
    Thanks again....I really like you style of video, with crystal clear, steady pictures!

    Iam doing it the same way and I've seen rarely doing it infront of camera the point and aim when I learned this is how to remove the axle from gear other things are easy and all you tubers are cutting this part 😂😂😂 and continues and when you ask they are saying it took long time this, this and this, shi--- what a f--- and no good answer untill my brother showed me how to do it and he is diyer not a mechanic thanks goodness that iam doing it myself
    And I've seen that You are doing it the right way but why you keep it untill it shot 😅
    Mean you are not checking every 6 months so if boot need replacement just clean grease, change the boot and grease it and you are done instead of keep changing with aftermarket, if you can fix it fix it

    one o f the best ive seen for this maxima driver side,the only bad design is that brake hose clip. ,do you haft to have both side jacks=ed up to incert the drivers side c v axel?

  • @jaywilliamson546
    @jaywilliamson546 Před 3 lety

    Was this Infinity a Manual transmission or Automatic? I was looking at the FSM and for automatic transmissions it states to: “ Insert a screwdriver into transaxle opening for right drive shaft and strike with a hammer.“ For Manual transmission: “Pry off drive shaft from transaxle.” Thanks for your input.

    • @hardlymovingpro
      @hardlymovingpro  Před 3 lety

      Automatic. You may have difficulty sliding the cv axle center bearing from the support hanger due to corrosion. May have to use a screw driver or punch and hammer to pry/push it out.

    I have a question. I have a camry and around the speed ranges of 40 or 55 I felt like a shudder vibration when I accelerate and when I have my foot on the gas at one of them speeds steadly. Could it be the cv axle or the transmission?

    • @hardlymovingpro

      Avoid store brand rebuilds or just buy new ones. Try sticking with reputable name brands.

      That's why I have a habit to look on my boots every 6 months and check, and since then iam just greasing and changing boots once there is a crack even if it's minor I hate waiting for a disaster to happen 😂😂😂
      If you can fix it and save your axle do it its only grease, boot, also pry bar and ratchets special plier for the c clip and you are done 👍👍👍

    • @hardlymovingpro
      @hardlymovingpro  Před 3 lety +1

      Coating the boots with silicone or dielectric grease will help preserve those boots.

    I drive a 2011 maxima and I just don’t know what my problem is, I had a bent wheel I replaced it, it got rid of a little vibration at lower speeds, but still The same 70+mph my car starts to vibrate like crazy, it bothers she living hell out of me, I’m thinking it’s either a bad strut , control arm or the cv axle joint

    • @hardlymovingpro
      @hardlymovingpro  Před 4 lety

      Whatever had the force to bend the wheel probably messed up the cv axle (internally)
