  • How to remove and replace the rear strut mounts on the 4th/5th/5.5 gen Maxima. This will work for strut replacement as well, or any other reason for you to tear down the rear struts.
You'll need a spring compressor (unless you are installing pre-assembled strut assemblies), 12mm socket for the strut mount-body bolts, 14mm socket for the upper strut mount retaining nut, and a 17mm socket for the lower strut mounting bolt.

The best straight forward tutorial I've seen on this with no unneeded chatter or video movement to make you sick.

All torque specs are listed in the video as annotations. Upper strut nut, 13-17 ft/lbs, upper strut mount nuts 12-14 ft/lbs, lower strut bolt 72-87 ft/lbs.

He expand it straight to the point and made it real simple.

There are so many parts missing on this suspension setup, I'm surprised it even has bump stops left. The isolator will help to prevent metal on metal noises from the spring touching the spring perch. Those noises can get rather annoying, I'd fabricate one if you can't get one in time.
Front strut video may be coming soon, as it is I've got 3 or 4 waiting on my to edit and upload.

Indeed, it should be all but identical.

This video was helpful! And quick struts are awesome!

Just FYI if you have the passthrough you need to remove the black stiffener mounted around it to get to the strut bolts

They're just about the same. Only real difference is that there are 3 nuts on top (14mm head) and two bolts holding the strut to the knuckle (19mm head bolt, 17mm head nut. Possibly opposite, but definitely 17/19mm).
Other than that, you would compress the spring the same way. The front is actually easier due to the larger spring size.

You mean the nut on the backside of the bolt? It's supposed to be held captive, but sometimes they will just spin in place. If you can't get a wrench or vice grips on the nut, you may have to cut it off and replace the nut and bolt.

Very similar to a Nissan Pulsar 95-01(n15)

    Should be very similar.

how do you take out the lower bolt on the retaining clip? mine is rusted out and a vice grip just wont grip on it.

Thanks for the video. I would love to see the front struts video. My 4th gen is getting all new struts and hardware here soon. So many parts to buy. I didn't even know about the spring isolator until yesterday. Is that part missing on yours?

Good video with much detail. Just one question. What kind of air ratchet is that you have? I would like to get one for myself like that one. It looks and sounds like it is real strong.

+Jim Pinckard That's actually a 90 deg impact, IR Hammerhead. Love it for pretty much anything you'd normally use an air ratchet for, just have to remember you can't break bolts free with it like a ratchet (free spinning head, like an impact). There are 3/8" and 1/2" versions which are identical but for the drive size.
