  • Welcome to an hour long wrenching session on the mighty BMW E60 M5 followed by Autobahn driving. In this episode we do throttle actuator service on the S85 V10 engine, install Bilstein B6 DampTronic shocks, fix the mirror unfolding problem and replace the sunroof seal. This formerly neglected and cheap M5 is now fully mechanically sorted!

The broken plastic piece in the shock is a broken shipping puck from when the vehicle was delivered. It keeps the front of the car raised for removal off the transporter to not scratch the bumper. Looks like the dealer who delivered the car might have not removed it. If the shipping puck was not removed and the car was driven at highway speeds, the spring could have been displaced from the correct position since the car was still raised on that one side. Once the shipping puck cracked and broke off from the impact of driving at highway speed, the spring settled into the incorrect position.

@Jonas Jonaitis bad reliability doesn’t m mean it has bad quality and it is bad design because BMW’s are built to breakdown after the warranty and once you change the parts it will run for the same km it did before breaking down
