With the recent launch of the brand new Lci 2 (life cycle injection) BMW 1 series, I thought i'd shoot a quick video showing you guys what the main differences are compared to the previous 1 series. This isn't a review or road test because I recently did that on a Lci 1 2017 M140i (link below). In terms of driving dynamics, the M140i remains unchanged.

my 1 series has bad sound insulation and a lot of wind noise. Doors are also loud when driving on road bumps. I am pretty disappointed but it drives nicely.
Mine has runflat tires so that definitely affects it a lot, but after 2 years that noise on the doors is getting worse and worse, but i do have to recognize roads on my country are terrible, everytime i take it to bmw for service they lubricate the doors but after a couple of weeks the noise is back again, we never had this issue with our mercedes GLK or with a new audi A4 i do think BMW lags a bit in that regard it is making the same noises as a Chevy Cruze and that is not good.
and also windshield wipers are programmed very badly. For light rain they run too fast and manual adjustment when scrolling button there is no difference in speed. Just annoying.
For ages I've been trying to work out what to replace my Mini Cooper S with. Your videos have helped me place a deposit on a Shadow Edition M140i for a fantastic price! Can't wait to get it in 3 weeks time. Thank you Joe. Love the content!

This is the first one I've seen which actually covers the changes in the car. It also highlights the changes which are in 2-series LCI (like indicator switches and new black panel dash).
I also like your other reviews. Keep up with the good job!
Ordered mine today 19th April 19. Deposit contribution from dealer and BMW are massive and PX was also well above what I'd have got via private sale....didn't even pay pre delivery deposit although you do have to be willing to negotiate hard.
Shadow edition is a no brainer like the man said.
I've gone for Melbourne red with the black alloys with oyster seats.....brightens up a dark interior.
Really pleased with my choice, saying that maybe it would have been a good idea to test drive one first.
Get one now as they'll soon be gone as will the deals, replacement is imminent 4 cylinder turbos with no rwd, end of an era. #tooexcited

That is a quality colour scheme going on. The red goes so well with the magnolia seats and the black gloss trim. Absolutely beautiful.

Puts my 135 to shame, although I must say I think I would agree with you on those indicators, I don't think I could get used to those at all!
Absolutely lovely car. The spec is spot on with this new shadow edition and the upgrades to the dash in my opinion were much needed to modernise the 1 series and bring them more in line with the other series cars. Lovely!

Looks ace inside! And about time too! Not sure on the flow of the centre vent trim to the passenger vent stopping half way looks odd rest is good tho. I feel an upgrade coming soon 🤗
I’ve ordered a 5 door M140i shadow edition sunset orange with oyster interior probably will look like this, I didn’t know the sunset orange looked more red than orange ?
As always love your videos, i have been trying to get an m135i or m235i but used car prices are over the roof in my country, dont even wanna talk about new...

Thanks for the information, my M135i will be due for renewal soon, love it so will probably change to the M140i and the shadow Ed. looks great minus the black wheels. Can also do without a touch screen as it will always have fingerprints on it and I can't be doing with that! Hopefully it is still fully controllable from the idrive on the transmission tunnel.
love the sunset orange but i personally prefer the old valancia orange, which my car is in ;) haha

Perfect hatchback. I like the exterior and interior color combination on this one. That engine sounds very good.
Just ordered EB with the 719m black alloys, there's been a few haters of the alloys but whenever I see that combo I must say it looks awesome. Just my opinion of course. Love the videos.
Me too - look stunning with the orange, they greys just didn’t fit with all the other black detailing (black gloss front grills). Treated myself to MPE too
Nice review Joe. The 'Shadow edition' just sounds like a rehash of the 'Sport plus' package (Harmon Kardon, privicy glass, different wheels etc.) with a few more external colour changes. Still a nice combination and love the stitching detail on the dash. The black wheels always look better in the flesh than on camera.

Hi joe loving you m140 content I would love your expert advice on running and maintenance on an m140 it's the only thing that bothers me and is currently stopping me purchasing one . Is it expensive apart from fuel and insurance

Hi Great video. Can't believe no quick 3 flash indicators. Are you sure the option hasn't been switched off in the main menu? Just a thought as you will know more than I do. Decided M140i is the best hatch around.

I have heard you can get irritating rattles due to the door window rubbers on the 5 door model of the m135/m140 and if there is a permanent fix? Can you explain what the difference is between Sport Modes and Sport Transmission? Thankyou Gary
Great review Bro love your vids just one question does the shadow edition come with adaptive dampers? And difference does it make by having them? I'm looking to purchase one or a golf r can't make up my mind but if I go for the bmw your vids will have played it's part and I will start by talking to the guy you mentioned in your vlog thanx.
Hey Mark, glad you like my stuff, thank you! Adaptive suspension is an option on the M140i/M140i Shadow, in my opinion the most important option to tick, makes a big difference to the quality of the ride and also gives a sportier option when pushing on. Cheers

Question: I've got an M240i on order and was waiting for a video of the interior to come out, other than the BMW released videos and this shows it perfectly. The digi speedo looks great.
You mention the shadow line is available on the M140i and M240i - however I dont think it is on the M240i given the brochure and the car config? I love the darker lights on the shadowline and i've ticked ordered the options it comes with, but was never given the option for a shadowline. Do let me know what you think and if there is one - i need to get on the phone to change it!

Hi Joe, just gone from a M135i to a M140i Shadowline, great boss and a great BMW dealer, However what has changed with the gearing? Something's different? Just wondered if you had noticed a change??

Just ordered a M140i (Estoril Blue / Black Dakota / 436M Orbit Grey Alloys). The cabin is a little dark, whats the Oyster leather like to keep. Dealer warned me it needs constant upkeep to stop dye transfer from clothes etc.
I have a 19 plate Black M140i Shadow on its way from the port and I can't wait! For the deal BMW were offering on a brand new car of this spec, performance and comfort it couldn't be matched for me. Won't be too many new cars made with RWD and 6 cylinders in future unfortunately.

That's a very nice colour. Mine is Valencia Orange, which I have grown to like more since I received the car and was slightly disappointed but given the choice, I would have gone with this one instead.
Looks amazing... So tempted so get one soon! Are the rear headlights LED in the UK?
I think the rears are still old fashioned bulbs actually!
Is adaptive cruise control finally available on the m140i now? I've heard it can now be specified?

Still no water and/or water temp gauges? 🙈the one thing that bugged me on my M135i. Love the new facelift M140i though. Have you ever had a shot of a car equipped with the optional diff?
I’m glad the have upgraded the dials on the inside of the car looks so much better
Before this the indicator stalk always returned to its home position when pressed. Not sure that I like the LCI 2 conventional method.
Update - drove a brand new 118i m sport tonight. The i-drive wheel feels a bit cheaper and the click motion is cheaper feeling/sounding. This and the indicator and wiper stalks feel like a cost down however the BC button feels nicer.

Hi Joe great vid as ever :) If only that car looked better even with those Khan style wheels(remember them?) I had a 120d and never locked it and had a cheeky look back and I wouldnt with this ,nice colour mind. Frustrating car for me.Looks a lot like the "luxury" interior thats in the 330d Luxury How do you feel interior size wise re the 3 series Joe? I live near that Berrys tell him I hope to see him next year if hes still there he moves around a bit!

Been waiting for a Shadow Edition video mate! Liking the new interior upgrades and that instrument cluster is 👌🏻 But did the pencil break when they were designing the passenger side dash trim? 😂 Also why are the rear brake and indicator bulbs still halogen?! Did Tony hint at any more LCI2 special editions down the line before the new 4 cyl is released next year?
Haha I have to agree with you there! Shame no LED rears, you would think that was definitely going to happen for Lci 2. He didn't say he knew about anymore upgrades/models. Cheers
Joe Achilles Tell me about it! I spent £120 changing all my halogen bulbs for error free LEDs haha, yet Peugeout's even come with full LEDs now 😣😂 Really want to see a shadow in the flesh 👌🏻
I know your comment is from a while ago but would you mind telling me what LEDs you found that were error-free for the F20 LCI? I'll be getting my M140i soon and the only thing that bothers me are those cheapo turn indicators, looking really nasty for a 2018 car. I'd love to spend those ~150€ for a way more up-to-date-look
Hm, all the options you mentioned are not stock in Germany's Shadow Edition. I'll get 1 in a couple of months and I'll do a video about it.

Not a fan of the new indicators as I had the old 1 Series for 3 years and now with the new ones they are annoying. Good to see somebody has actually reviewed the new design, not seen any other videos as yet.

Absolutely love your videos Joe! Is this M140i in the Sunset Orange? If so what's the colour like in the flesh? Loved Valencia Orange but my dealer said they wouldn't do it on the M240i and it looks like you can now get this Sunset Orange colour on one!

Would have blacked out the silver bits above the air intakes on the front of the car as well. Make them look bigger from a distance. Oooosh you've just opened the door... not sure I'm a fan of that cream leather on the red/orange car haha! Dash looks great, wish they had done that on the M2's (pre LCI)

I'm pretty sure the standard Navigation on the M140i Shadow Edition is the 6.5" non touch screen version.
quick question. is the 2018 M140i Shadow Edition still a RWD hatchback ?
Jess Maleficient, yes, the standard car is still RWD fortunately (although all wheel drive 'x drive' is also available for extra cost in some markets). The all new replacement 1 series is mooted to be moving to front wheel drive architecture (rather than this which is the mid life refresh).
Yeah the engine, gearbox and running gear hasn't changed thankfully. As Michael says :-)

is that melbourne red? i was in doubt for minutes and my m140i is melbourne red. come drive my m140 with OS Giken lsd Joe. Best upgrade for the m140i. Absolutely transformed the car. Even the sport+ mode is fun with the lsd.
This is in the brand new Sunset Orange colour. Yeah I've heard an LSD transforms the car ;-)
Joe Achilles oh sweet cool color. btw, after your comment about the big rear quarter pannel dwarfing the rear wheel, I mounted my e46 m3 19" wheels on the m140i rear and you know what. that does not even look weird at all. Put the original wheel back now though.
