I had to remove this video - Someone watched this video and decided they liked what they were seeing, they purchased this actual car. Unfortunately the Approved salesman at Berry Chiswick agreed that I would remove my video on collection of car, neither Tony (TRL) or myself were made aware of this. All of a sudden I'm getting calls asking me to remove the video immediately because the new owner didn't like his car being driven hard on the internet. After calling the owner myself he agreed for the video to go live again providing I blur the plate and remove the first 5 second clip... At first I couldn't be bothered and just removed the video, once I had calmed down, I decided I couldn't pour all my efforts down the drain, so here is a shitty version of the original video.
Anyone else who decides to buy an actual car from one of my videos, don't bother asking the video to be removed, I WONT REMOVE ANOTHER ONE!
Special thanks to Tony Lewis (TRL) & Berry BMW
If you want a BMW (not just M lites), drop Tony an email and quote my name for the best deals, his Email - TRLdeals@outlook.com
Tony will always give you the best possible deal, he doesn't have time to mess you around and spends loads of time online so is fully aware of what he's up against, I would say he's responsible for well over 50% of M lite sales alone in the UK.
Thanks to my buddies ZeroTo60 for the alternative camera angles, check out their 0-60 videos of this M140i, it's one of the fastest cars they have ever tested! (Link to their CZcams below)

Joe Achilles What was his problem then? I don't get why he/she would want it removed as they will always know it is their car in this video, blurred plate or not.

What a bellend. Anyone know the reg ? 😂 edit: found it.
Joe, all that hard work you did to make the original of this video is what made me put in an order for my own brand new M140i which I took delivery of 2 weeks ago. I still can’t believe they made you butcher your review of this great car. Did I mention the current owner of that car is a tosser ?

The owner is a twat, can't undo what has already been done. I've just subscribed, your videos are always spot on. One thing I'm interested in is those back seats. Is it still the same cabin as the 3 series or is there less space?

Excellent review, Joe! You made me smile and even more excited about the M140! After doing some research and watching most of your videos I ordered a M140 Shadow Edition in June which should be delivered in 3 weeks!!! I hope you get the recognition you deserve from BMW UK as your enthusiasm and great reviews is the best promotion for them!

Brilliant as ever Joe, in depth, concise and knowledgeable - it's always interesting to hear direct comparisons from those that have experienced these cars first hand and are able to explain the pros and cons of updated models versus those previous. As ever your passion for delivering a fair assessment serves you well and long may it continue bud, these baby BMW M Performance six pot cars are really special!👍👍👍

    Great Review Joe !
I bought an M140i for the wife -she loves it great car! Loved the review but have to disagree with adaptive suspension option.
That's because it's not configurable on the M140i- when in comfort mode throttle is too soft and engine note way too quiet- I like to leave in sport or sport plus great engine noise and sharp throttle response plus the standard dampers are more comfortable than the adaptive version in sport mode.
Yes I'm sure on a track the adaptive sport mode would be faster round a track but on the road I'll take a better ride with the engine note and sharp throttle thanks.

Oh Joe, your genuine passion for M Lites is infectious and I'm so glad a dealer has clicked on to this and lent you a car. I'm happy I put my deposit down last month as I believe contributions and discounts for this quarter have dropped and interest rates risen. If the next gen is a 4 pot God forbid then the 6 pots should hold their value and keep you in positive equity. I opted for a pre confirmed build slot so not long now!

Great work Joe - I'm a big fan of your content.
I'm a uni student who runs a modified manual 130i. I absolutely love my 130i and see a lot of similarities between it and the M140i. The M140i seems to have everything I love about the 130i (except NA) but with loads more power and torque and a new interior with plenty of tech.
M140i costs 70k in Australia so they are unattainable for me today but I can't wait to pick one up in 2-3 years. I have even decided what spec I want in large part due to your videos haha.

As always, great pleasure viewing your vids. As you say, this is the "bargain" of the year (if not more).
Personally, on my M140i, I changed the Sports mode to have the adaptive suspensions left in normal mode. I only use the Comfort mode in highways and in towns, rest of the time I'm usually in Sport mode because of the better throttle response.
    Cheers from France.

I think BMW should be paying you commission ! I bought my 140 after watching Harris and your vid's on the 135's. Interesting comments on the car feeling less NA. I am a dyed in the wool Porsche guy and really wanted a Cayman but that really does feel turbo'd by comparison. The fact the Cayman had gone four pot and the small matter of the bimmer being 15k at least cheaper and the infinitely better experience at the dealer, mean't it was a no brain'er buying the M140. Great vid.

The practicality of the car is a mega plus for me. I had mine loaded up for a camping trip in Snowdonia this weekend.
I had a full boot and still had a blast on the Welsh roads.
mines a weekend car mainly I've only done 2.5k miles since December but it's a cracking car.

Hi Joe, another great vid. Have been running-in my 240i now for two weeks and smiling like a Cheshire cat every time I get in it is that good and fun. Can do with more colourful exhaust notes so I'm stumping up for an M Performance version soon. Yes torquey! Thinking I was driving my Golf, I smoked the tyres when leaving the showrooms. Dealer had also told me the next 240i will use a 4 pot mill. Great ride from amazingly supple+planted adaptive suspension that makes our crap Aussie roads feel decent.

Less than a month to go before I get my shadow edition from Tony. Just my 2p worth - I haven't specced adaptive... currently in an a 330d loaner from BMW with adaptive and honestly I struggle to see the use case for it 90% of the time. I find it's only really enjoyable in comfort mode. The M140i I have driven with passive suspension seemed pegged somewhere between comfort and sport - seemed fairly sorted so hoping I won't regret it

  • @onemorelap
    @onemorelap Před 7 lety +1

Awesome review Joe, again very to the point. I had the pleasure to review the M140i as well (but in German), the adaptive dampers are indeed a mayor step up, while you get like 70% of the performance of an M2. So you have a lot of excitement mixed with everyday comfort. Additional to that, BMW told me, they've increased the noise & vibration isolation compared to the M135i, can you feel / hear a difference?
Sidenote: Many thanks again for your exciting M2 videos, I just put in an order for one yesterday. Long Beach Blue and 6MT :)

Been looking forward to this review all week again a great vid Joe, many many thanks please keep them coming! I have had my 140i now for a month, an auto without the adaption suspension option. As I did not test drive a 140i with this option prior to ordering mine I can only pass comment on my experience of only the standard suspension set up. To me it's fine, a little hard on some roads but adequate enough for me, a fifty year old! I drive mine in sport mode everywhere primarily to hear the throaty exhaust note and better throttle response. Like you I love this car to bits great value for money, performance and very subtle! The last of the 6 pot, rear wheel drive hot hatches, what a tragedy...

Couldn't agree more. The 140 and 240 are a lot of car for the money. As you say, get a six while you can and enjoy. Mine's on order! Good review BTW and I think you've nailed the differences between N55 and B58. I've come to the same conclusion that maybe even if you can stretch to a more expensive car, is it really worth it when these are so good (and generally more usable day to day)? They really hit the sweet spot between performance and liveability and slip under the radar with a lot of people, so you can park it and leave it without worrying too much and you aren't constantly being hassled on the street either.

  • @stephenbates41
    @stephenbates41 Před 7 lety

You're correct about it flattening off just after 5k revs. I recently had mine on a rolling road and it produced 351bhp standard, but you could see the power and torque tail off on the graphs. It also proves that the tuning boxes, like on your M135i, are pretty accurate as if the power continued (on the graph) you could see it getting towards the 420 bhp mark. I can send you a copy if you like.
    Keep them coming 👍

Alpina should have a go at this engine, would be very interesting to see what they came up with.
I would definitely buy an Alpina B2 Biturbo Allrad!

Trade in your M135i! I traded my manual 135 in for an m140i similar to the one you tested in the video, best thing I ever did. got the best deal ever I think i'm paying £12 a month more than my 135 and got loads of extras with it like auto box etc I never thought I'd like the auto but after a few months with the zf8 I don't think i'll go back to a manual, incredible

I have my M140i for a week now and even though i have some kilometers to run it in, it already shows what an absolute gem it is. I absolutely not regret choosing the manual. I tested the auto and it was annoying me for several reasons.

I've got a m140i 3dr had it 2 months and it's the best car I've ever driven and the new b58 engine is such an improvement on the old n55. I'd recommend it over an s3 or golf r, also spec the adaptive I have it and it makes a world of difference.

    • @limpet7r63
      @limpet7r63 Před 7 lety

Main advantage of Adaptive in my opinion is the much better ride you get in Comfort mode. The standard suspension is like having Adaptive suspension stuck in Sport mode all the time, which is a bit harsh on crumbling road surfaces. With adaptive, it rides beautifully in Comfort for when you just want to cruise about in comfort.

I have always had manuals, but this is my first auto, and I made the right choice.
Only options I have are the adaptive suspension, and the Harman Kardon audio.
Don't need heavy electric & heated seats, mirrors, etc thanks....

Great video and I totally agree. I got mine one month ago (zf, adaptive). It is a fantastic car. After work it is great to drive home in this liitle beast. I agree about the fuel consumption ( 1 l., 17/18 km) is possible. But when its playtime you will do about 1l./9km.A little car with a straight six will never be made again. Buy it! The ultimate affordable car for the petrolhead!

👏👏👏 on the mpg thing. It's the reason my 2006 325i had to go a few years ago, it was killing me on the fuel! Your comments on the 140i and the mpg has me thinking again🤔.....might just send that email down to Bury!!
PS. Totally agree with you on the differences of the two engines and that's just on the strength of your videos and not having drove either 😅.....you must be doing something right🖒

Hi Joe, I found similar with the engine and exhaust note when I drove the M140i a couple of weeks ago. I only had it for a few hours but your comments in the video echo what I thought at the time in that yes you can notice the increased power & torque (especially the torque) but the engine/exhaust note isn't quite as loud/noticeable as in the M135i and when you get 'up it' (through 4k, 5k) it just doesn't sound quite as good.
The demo car I borrowed had the adaptive dampers fitted (as does my M135i) but someone had ticked the RunFlat Tyre option so I had to try and balance that in my head when comparing how it handled. I think the M140i does handle a bit more deftly than the M135i; a bit more planted in the rear when pushing on and turn in seemed a little sharper too. Such a shame it had those tyres on rather than the default MPSS's.
Anyone contemplating a M140i, please, please, please get the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres and stay well away from the RunFlats. The difference is truly night & day.
I'm curious Joe, are you planning on ordering an M140i or did your other recent video on the upgrades you've just made to your M135i answer that question already? ;)
I thought the ZF auto software was much better on the M140i though; smoother shifts, drops into 8th at cruising speed in Sport (M135i always holds 7th) and if you've just pulled on paddles for a quick downshift or upshift which puts it in 'temp' manual mode, pulling on right paddle and holding drops it back into normal auto rather than having to wait. The new iDrive was better too, much slicker looking :)

I have my M140i Shadow on order for delivery at the end of July. Order placed through Tony Lewis at Berry - The guy is a legend - The discounts he sorted me for were amazing and made ordering a brand new M140i over a 2 year old M135i better value for me. Love watching your video's Joe. Keep up the good work dude!

What was the deal you got, I've been shopping around for the M140 and the best deal so far has been from Sytner BMW. Currently with all the deposit contributions plus another 2k from me the cars is coming out around £370 -£400 ish per month.

Super vid again Joe. Been looking forward to it. I just love my M140i Auto + adaptive which I got from the legendary Tony Lewis last year. As you say it's an incredible package for the money. Incredible. People can not believe how quick and powerful they are. Proper wolf in sheeps clothing stealth cars. Be very sad when BWM ditch the silky straight six for a xDrive four pot :-( It will lose a lot of its character. Keep going with your vids and building a bigger subscriber base. Look forward to you replacing Chris Harris on Top Gear in a few years. LOL ;-)

Hi Joe, like you M140 review. I used to run a 2013 M135 manual with adaptive dampers. I really loved the car except for the suspension & the gearbox / clutch. I found the suspension in comfort too soft and uncontrolled on the road and in sport too stiff on the road and not stiff enough on the track. In summary under-damped in comfort & over-damped in sport! In addition my particular car had an unacceptable rattle/knocking from the suspension over undulations. BMW tried to repair the car over a period of 11 weeks in a year but after apparently replacing all suspension and steering related components failed to solve the suspension knocking & rattling. In the end they told me it was a characteristic of the car!! As for the manual gearbox I found this very vague and knotchy & the cutch too heavy & long - on the track in would not change down from 3rd to second under enthusiastic braking. The flywheel and clutch assembly were replaced to no avail. Out of complete frustration I ordered a Mk 3 Focus RS which after 12 months turned up and for various reasons I ran for 4 months and then swapped foe an M240 sports auto with passive dampers. This car is perfect. It is refined, fast, can also do hooning and track as well 😀. My personal recommendation for any prospective M140/240 buyer would be PASSIVE DAMPERS & SPORTS AUTO. Steve
