After 28 months and 16500 miles its time to wave goodbye to my manual BMW M135i Lci. As most of you know I have a M140i Moth edition coming, it should be here by the end of Jan. I'm off to Australia next week and have decided to collect the M140i on 1st March, something to look forward to when I get back.
I will miss this mighty car, I will miss the brilliant N/A character of the N55 engine! I will miss the manual on some days, but really looking forward to the brilliance of the ZF 8 speed box again.
Thanks for watching this video, and thanks for coming on so many M135i journeys with me.

Another great vid, it looked like you were getting a bit teary and emotional! I have to disagree about the manual 'box though. I had a manual M135i for 4 years and now a manual M140i and I love the gearchange. The essential mod is fitting the M Performance gearknob (as can be seen in one of my vids ;)) as I've done in both my M-Lites. Shorter, narrower and firmer carbon/Alcantar gearknob transforms the shift feel. Makes it shorter throw and more direct feeling. I would never have the auto, good as it is, but then again I don't live in London.
Joe, had my m135i 3 years and agree with everything you say in all your vids on the mlites. Convinced multiple others to get one in that time too. Understated riot I'll be sad when mine goes. Looking forward to your 140i

Just over 3 months into my m140i ownership thanks to your videos and I have loved every second of it. Ended up taking the demo car rather than waiting for a new one, i couldn’t wait!

Nice vid. I bought an M135i after watching your vids and absolutely love it,the only option missing on it is the adaptive suspension,there were none about that I could afford at the time,and I don’t miss it,although never driven one,as it’s just great as it is.

Really good video Joe, I agree with all of your comments. I've had my M135i manual for 3 years and was thinking of selling it until I watched your Motec feature. It made me re assess the virtues of the car and difficulty of getting more bang for buck without a big increase in the budget. The conclusion, The car is booked in with them next week for the Achillies spec M135i mods. I look forward to more great content from you when the M140 arrives.

Brilliant video Joe. I wouldn’t say I was a BMW fan, but I love some of the M cars which they are bringing out. I think the M5 is awesome and you’ve now definitely brought my attention to the BMW lite segment - rear wheel drive cars are something special. Maybe I’ll bump into you at Goodwood this year. I also took your advice and looked for a car with the adaptive and i am glad i did. The car is so comfy in comfort mode. I have had no random steering issues when going over bad roads. The A12 for example near Witham has an awful road surface, yet this bmw just glides over it, i was really surprised.

Your M135/40i videos are the main reason I managed to persuade my dad to get an M140i Shadow in a fairly similar spec to your new car! They are so good, to be fair that goes for the 1 Series in general, I was lucky enough to be able to get a good offer on a 118i M Sport Shadow and I love it!

I love my m135. Yes the auto makes more sense but I love my manual and have never regretted it. Glad your staying with the m lites.

xHP your ZF8 box, to stage 2-3. Makes the shifts (especially with the paddles) so much faster, faster than DCT and especially on the down shift. Makes the zf8 even better and I no longer miss a manual, as you can drive triptronically, like a sequential, forward for down a gear, back for up. If you want you can even pretend you're pressing a clutch with your foot on the rest. xHp makes that mode way better too.

Great video joe, your videos have made me swap my 2015 118d to a m140i shadow edition, got plenty of extra’s in it, but from your reviews I’ve gone with the adaptive suspension as well. Should be here 2 week of feb! Big power difference from a 118d 😂

Love your videos Joe, BMW should be paying you mate as I'm sure you've pushed a fistful of sales their way ! Ive had a 230i for two years and your vids were the reason I test drove the 140i....... I loved it.....then I tested the 240i and loved that even more lol..... I was happy with my 230 but you've just cost me 40 odd grand for a new loaded 240i that I'll be picking up in March.....can't wait and I'll be sure to wave at you out my rear window if I ever spot you on the road again lol. Keep the vids coming mate, even though you make me spend money...your vid on your petrolhead tour got me looking into doing one this year....your make for expensive viewing Joe !!!

I went from one car that had no adaptive to one that did and couldn’t tell too much difference at the time but then got my m140i and didn’t select the adaptive and boy I noticed it going from edc to non edc. Mine is a manual and although is ok I wish I went Auto but still I love my car! When the time is right i’ll Mod a couple bits! Enjoy Oz dude, I love it over there!
Even though I am getting a Golf R on Friday I think the M lites are truly amazing cars and I actually put a deposit on a m140i (long story to why I didn’t go ahead with it)

Been following since day one, your videos get better every time. I can't afford a 135 but i have a manual 120d. I must say my manual box is like silk, but the car has 37k on it! Bizarre how long it takes for these to loosen up.

Hi Joe, although I'd already ordered my M135i by the time I discovered your channel I used your videos to plug the gap to delivery! As discussed on twitter I'm looking to replace mine in the next 12 months with a used 15/65 plate Cayman on a manual, that's the standard of car necessary to really improve on this little rocket (not on pace though). Looking forward to seeing the M140 series and your planned improvements. Whilst the M2 was a casualty of the situation you mention your followers (and you?) really benefited from your then relentless focus on the channel and its great to see it going from strength to strength.
You have a thumbs up from me, Joe. I enjoy your videos a lot. On the subject of adaptive, I bought a 240i in Sept with this but still hated the pogo effect on A & B roads. Following some research on the internet, I found that KW offer DDC coilovers to replace the stock suspension and the best bit is that they're completely plug&play with the adaptive button. And they made a huge improvement to the ride & handing too. Mine were sourced & fitted by R-Tec in St Albans FWIW.
Sad to see it go mate but at the same time can't wait to see what you get up to in the m140i 1 series you either love them or hate them personally I love them 👊

As a direct result of watching your vids I bought a brand new M240 which I collected 3 weeks ago and I'm loving every single second I'm in it. Didn't even mind Monday morning traffic this morning. I'd like to do the Motech mods but I'm too worried about the warranty, maybe when the rattly exhaust happens I might get an M performance one.

Watching this video brings a tear to my eye. They are brilliant little cars and better than the A45 and RS3's pound for pound in my opinion.

I got my 135i LCI because of your videos :) I have the auto and you are right... on the motorway if i set cruise control at 70 the revs are so low that it could get over 40mpg on the motorway eaaaaasy.
Im going for a 150 mile trip next week so i am going to reset all the mpg logs and see what mpg i can get :)

Joe really is the most comprehensive journalist when it comes down to real life reviews for BMW products. Honestly you’re up there with Harris for levels of inspiration and have definitely contributed to my decision to buy an M140i
Joe, quick question. When does the replacement M140i come to market? The reason I ask is that I’ll be in the market for the current M140i towards the back end of this year and wondered if it was best to hunt to PCP deals on this model as they start to fade it out for a better deal?

Current thinking in the automotive press seems to be mid 2019 for the new 1. It's unusual for the M lites to be the first to be released, so you must be talking end 19 maybe early 2020. There are pictures of them testing now though, so I may be wrong. A full on M version likely 1 or 2 years after that I suspect. That would fit in with BMW's 7 year life cycle for it's models, with a LCI (restyle/update) at the half way mark. They rarely stray from this for the core model ranges.

I loved the videos of your M135 since we don't have 1 series in Canada other than the X1, which is new. Speaking of roads in the UK, you should see the Canadian roads, you can hide a VW Beetle in the potholes! :D
That Chris Harris video inspired me to buy one as well. Great car with stage 2 and lowered.
If I had the money I would also go for the M140i, it's the perfect fun daily. It has great looks, quality, speed, practicality and still has the fun factor.

Hey Joe great video like all you made :) I have to admit, although i´m a huge Mercedes-Fanboy and also like the A-Class a lot i always couldn´t get it why the third generation wasn´t made as a coupe-version. That´s why i love the 1series, it looks great and the bigger engines are having a manual which is really cool :)
Do you like the prefacelift version more or the current one?
Btw at the IAA last year i met the guy who was in charge for the colours in the 80´s and 90´s of BMW, he gave them their names and it ended me talking to him almost 20 minutes about that time and he was such a humble and nice guy :D
I gave this video a thumbs up and urge other people to do so too! It’s a shame the new 1-series will be FWD but I guess that doesn’t matter to most buyers these days. I heard that they did a survey and most 1-series owners didn’t even know the car is rear wheel drive...

Great video. I purchased my M140i LCI2 (4 months of ownership now) due to your video's and even when you had the Estoril Blue M135i. I unfortunately have to add to the 'common problems' is the infamous door creaking. My M140i creaks like mad. Doorubbers been replaced 2x but no solution. If you google it, it is also a common problem. Otherwise, solid car!

clean the rubbers with degreaser + use no silicon based products on the rubbers.... since E46 BMW's the rubbers start creaking when they had contact with silicon (cleaning product).
Yep, I know. I use the BMW anti silicone products that gave me after every (hand) wash. My car sleeps inside and is really well taken care of. The seals are mint clean but problem persists. Car goes back to dealer tomorrow and will probably get the Teflon tape treatment.
Very curious to see. You ordered the 3rd or 5dr? Problem seems to only be with the 5dr models.
I have the 5 doors... in summer the rubbers squeaked loud, i hated it while driving the car. I cleaned the rubbers twice with "dreft" and lubricated with glycerine: problem was solved in my case. When cleaning the car (open door), use only water: many shampoos contain silicon.
I prefer the old arse-end too. Enjoy the new one, I look forward to the future vids...
