  • A few of my subscribers & Instagram followers had asked me to do a video about the practical side of living with a M135i, also what they actually cost to run... You will be pleased to hear they're massively cheap for the performance on offer! Please feel free to ask me anything I've missed.
    Thanks for watching as always guys!

    The best, most comprehensive review of this car out there, well done Joe.Very surprising that the auto option is considerably the most economical to run!
    Guess it just demonstrates how much autos have improved.

    Thanks Joe. I'm looking to get one of these cars this year and I've been wondering about fitting a couple of mountain bikes in the back, as well as the auto vs manual debate. Perfect video for me, really helpful. You have a subscriber! I also really liked the video in which you talked about the performance upgrades you've had done - makes me think I need to rustle up a few grand extra :)

    Hi mate, great video as always. I just come up with a couple of questions that may worth to discuss about, e.g. what type of optional equipment (interior/exterior) do you have with your m135i? How can you identify them from the stock version? What type of these equipment have a higher priority IYP when looking for a new/used m135i. You can make another video to discuss about this topic if you run out of stuff to talk about lol. Keep it up, looking for your next video.

    Hey Joe,
    Ordered my m140i about 6-8 weeks ago. Walked away really happy then the panic set in, having only test driven an m235i and an m240i... I was just so obsessed with the performance and the pace after getting hooked after driving a 235. Your videos have literally saved the day! Watched them countless times now and can't wait for it to arrive.
    It was interesting to hear what you thought on the old m135 passive / adaptive suspension then how much more sorted the m140 felt. Have you driven an m140 with the passive suspension? Seems like everything I've seen so far they have the adaptive suspension. Ordered mine with a few toys but stuck with the passive!
    Thanks again for the vids!

    Very interesting video Joe ! Just discovered your channel, thanks for all the amazing content. I'm currently thinking about trading my '13 X3 in for something different. The LCI M135i is definitely a great car. On the other hand if you get it decently loaded ( nav, auto box, leather, LSD) it's pretty much the same as the M2, at least here in Germany. Also, I'm pretty sure that the M2 is going to hold it's value a lot better.

  • @RSTube07
    @RSTube07 Před 8 lety +1

    Awesome Joe. It seems pretty more reliable than my jcw was. And I am kinda jealous of the price of purchase and maintenance there in the UK. By browsing bmw uk, the manual 135i without nothing goes for 32000 pounds and here in portugal the same car costs 56000€ (around 43000 pounds) ... so ieah i should change country for sure :/
    One thing I think you haven't mentioned is the ride comfort. My 120d was ordered with M suspension and the 18" ferric wheels with the 40/front 35/back profilesand I'm kinda wondering if the ride is harsh as f**** or not. How would you compare it with the jcw your friend has?
    Once again tks for the content. It is not crappy at all, on the contrary ;) Keep them coming! Cheers

    • @JoeAchilles1
      @JoeAchilles1  Před 8 lety

      +RSTube07 Cheers man :-) Wow it sounds like Portugal is an expensive place for BMW's, I wonder if your stock M135i comes with more standard kit, in Australia they almost come fully loaded compared to our UK cars. Yeah I have briefly mention the ride in one of my other M135 videos, with the adaptive suspension in the comfort setting it actually rides really well, the dampeners in my buddies JCW seem to work better though (if that makes sense). In sport it becomes very stiff and only useful on smooth tarmac or the track.... Cheers!

I can't decide between 3 doors or 5, which one would you recommend? The difference in space in the back is so big? I'm 27 and I like the more sport look of the 3 door but I'm afraid it could get too uncomfortable in the back. Thank you and keep on doing great videos, you are really doing an amazing job

    • @JoeAchilles1
      @JoeAchilles1  Před 8 lety

      +Francesco Papa Cheers man! If you're going to carry passengers in the back regularly then go for the 5dr, it gives them a tiny bit more space but more importantly they have their own window and door. One service down Bmw Highgate- they quoted me £400. So it makes sense to pay abit extra and save over 5 yr period. Alternatively u could shop around, my 2nd car I couldn't take out service plan due to buying "used" and most places quoted me around £280 on average (cheaper than Highgate) but multiply that figure and suddenly the service pack seems VERY worth the money

    Are the auto economy savings as proclaimed by BMW, under the official test conditions, really the same as the real world savings? I presume one buys this car to "rag it", that means probably using the flappy paddles and or sport mode which would surely nullify any economy advantage attributed to the gear change strategy with the auto-box in fully auto.

Id buy it used with around 40-50,000km for about 15000€ sth around that since i cant spend much more on a car atm, but yh so would u actually recommend the car for a young lad? Or would it be a bad idea to save up for that car ? Hope u could reply since u rly seem to know alot bout the bmw 1 and id love to know ur opinion :) greets from belgium.

      Hey buddy, glad you like my channel and thanks for the kind words! I love BMW's especially the 1 series so my opinion is biased, I'm sure there are other better value small cars but the 1 series is such a well balanced car. I've have driven a 2012 116i and it felt really decent, I believe the 118i has about an extra 35bhp which would make is plenty fast enough for someone your age moving from a Fiesta. They also tend to be very reliable cars, hopefully nothing should go wrong and cost you more €€€. See if your local BMW dealer will let you test drive one. Hopefully this answer helps you a bit, feel free to ask anything else 👍

      +Joe Achilles thanks for this quick reply, what i was also wondering is, a mate of mine said the brakes are kind of a letdown, do you agree or think the brakes are perfectly fine? And also are there some option u think are a must to have ? Since im not to smart in all those things, i just love the interior and exterior but no idea what i really need to look for before purchasing one :)

      Ohh, thanks for the reply, that is cheap. In Poland for the 118i 136hp I need to pay 4,15% yearly to insure it, that is like 800-900 GBP. Cheers

    Joe . . .I have a test drive in a 135i this week . . . now being marketed as a 140i/240i I believe as the new cars a receiving a subtle tweak. I note you keep a spare wheel in the back - does this mean you opted for non-runflats?? Which wheel do you run around with - a rear or front?? As they're different sizes and circumferences, then clearly one might be a better choice over the other??

    • @JoeAchilles1
      @JoeAchilles1  Před 8 lety +1

      The M140 and 240 are thankfully more than just a marketing exercise, they have a totally new engine that produces identical torques figures to the mighty M2, I'm looking at chopping my M135 in for one because they will be mighty little things haha. That spare wheel was only in the boot as I was setting off on a month long 3000+ mile road trip around Europe, it was the slightly narrower front wheel that would fit on the rear in an emergency. And yeah I have had the proper michelin Super sports on both my M135's, the run flats are okay but nothing like the Michelins in terms of performance. Cheers

    • @ybliga
      @ybliga Před 8 lety

      Thanks for that . . . typical salesman needs "plugging in to his own diagnostic kit" - they told me the 140i was going to be the same price as the 135i and was the same in all respects except a subtle ECU tweak giving a few more HP.I was interested in your answer cos I plan on speccing non-run flats and then buying some spare wheels like you did. I'm struggling to find out the answer to a couple of questions I havea. Is the 436M wheel the same design regardless of tyres specced ie runflats/non-runflats?? ie, do they have a 436M specifically for runflat tyres and a 436M for normal tyresb If I spec non-runflats, is the car supplied with a harder suspension and different braking set up??The answer to these questions will dictate which wheels I buy because I want the same as I have supplied on the car. Clearly, if the car setup is identical and there is a single wheel design, I don't have to worry and if I end up with spare wheels shod with runflats, I'll simply use them until they're fubarred and then mount a set of winter tyres which was my longterm plan. I shouldn't watch your videos . . . . you've got me fantasising over M2s but if the M140 is as you suggest, it will be mad!!! They told me (again, probably incorrectly) the M135i was being replaced by the M140i but if the upgrade is as you suggest, I would expect BMW to run both models side by side. Time will tell . . . .

    • @ybliga
      @ybliga Před 8 lety

      Ah . . . just read the press release. 340bhp with greater fuel economy and less emissions and 0.3 seconds shaved off the 0-60 time - what's not to like? Clearly more than an ecu tweak. BMW confirm that the 135i and 235i are being replaced. Well . . . I hope my dealer is right about the price remaining unchanged!!!

  • @n7ova
    @n7ova Před 8 lety

    I think the Service staff do take you seriously but it's the mechanics where the issue lies. Most dealership mechanics are offered small bonuses, they can increase their monthly wage with repair recommendations on someone else's car, so your warranted car gets a quick evaluation then it's off to make some extra bucks by recommending brake pads, tyres... - I see the industry from the mechanics side and breaking down the barriers between the customer and us has been something I have battled with all my life. We want to help but we rarely ever get to meet the owners, just a boss or service manager who is more interested in repair turn around times plus peer-pressure of other mechanics who are working right next to you and are earning more money by making repair recommendations.

    Always think it's pretty pointless asking about running costs on a new/nearly new car costing around £30k !
    The car should be under warranty anyway & what you pay in PCP means you'll lose thousands anyway.
    Those who need to worry about bills are those that buy these type of cars at around the 50,000 mile mark or 5+ year old mark ( wondering if the car has been nailed through the first 3 gears every mile or so )
    Cracking good car & those straight sixes :D :D :D
